ok, so 1h ago my trusty Palit 460GTX Sonic gave up, ofcourse while playing a just released game, ofcourse on Friday night, specifically so I won't be able to replace it the next day.. 
this is the 2-nd card that my 7yo P5KC outlives.. the first being a 8800GTX, that was repaired and is currently holding up my PC.
Soo looking at PALIT GTX760 JETSTREAM 2GB D5 for around 300$?
any reason why I shouldn't get it?
according to http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_760_Jet_Stream/32.html it's nice bang for it's buck
there is also for around the same price ASUS GTX660 TI-DC2O-2GD5, but according to the site, the 760 is better

Tbh you should wait for the 290 + 780ti to be released since prices will go down from both brands.
Is there no one you can borrow a gpu from to hold you until then?
As for brands, i've never used palit.
Always had gigabyte 3x setups on my NVIDIA cards, and my AMD ones i can't remember, since it was so long ago (9800/4850 etc)... None died on me, nor deteriorated in any way (same temps after 2 years), but then again i do tend to do "maintenance" a lot.

GF GTX 660 OC, 2GB Palit, PCI-E 3.0, DDR5, 192bit, HDMI, 2x DVI, DisplayPort
or GF GTX 660, 2GB Asus GTX660-DC2OCPH-2GD5, PCI-E 3.0, DDR5, 192bit, HDMI, DisplayPort, 2xDVI
because it's only 2 slots big, and I don't have 2.5 slots of space, because of my LAN card

Surely you can do better for that kind of money StrEagle. $300 for a goddamn 660 is WAY overpriced. At $300, you should be able to get any of the following:
- 7950
- 7970
- R9 270X
- R9 280X
- GTX 660 Ti
- GTX 670
- GTX 760
A 660 is just shit. You want a 660 Ti or 760. From the list above, the 280X/7970, 7950 and 670 are faster than the rest and that's what you should be getting at $300. 270X, 660 Ti, 760 should all be closer to the $200 mark instead.
And a 660 non-Ti should sit below that.

Shit, you can find a used GTX 680 (Which still runs all the latest games with the highest settings at 1080p BTW) for $300. $300 for a 660 = crap indeed.

The 780Ti IS an overclocked 780 for the same price as the 780. A typical nVidia move.
I'm mostly curious about the standard R9 290 and it's O/C potential. AMD has gone back to best bang for the buck ie. price/performance ratio. The problem nVidia has with the 780/Titan GPU is that it's expensive to produce the silicon as well as the card. They can drop their prices to hurt AMD but then they'll make no money (may even make a loss if they drop the prices on their high-end GPU's).

I think you underestimate NVidia. The prices on the 780 and titan are high because they had zero competition till now. They'll still easily be making money selling the 780 at 290x prices, and they'll be discontinuing the Titan likely. Then once early spring rolls around they'll be releasing their new cards anyways. NVidia is in a great position really.

Titan is priced where it is because if it had been priced lower, it would put their Tesla and Quadro ranges in danger. It would've been better value for money for smaller applications than those cards in that case. That and relatively low yields. Noticed the lack of any fully enabled GK110 products?

They still have more headroom there due to their smaller chip. The fact that they've got their fully enabled part while Nvidia doesn't indicates that their yields are good enough.

They won't. 20nm products are a year away and if they release Maxwell on 28nm, that would be a waste of time for them. That's a heap of money to invest for very little gain, so I highly doubt that. |

also don't forget, that it is possibly quite difficult, to achieve 20mn. i.e. they probably get there eventually, but at some point, you can't smaller with current methods/technology. At some point they have to change, how they do all that stuff (right now, if i am not all wrong, it is some kinda chemical process).

They've already reached one of those points. What you're talking about though, is the 7-5nm node. That's still years away
Edit: this is disappointing. Shops are starting to update their product listings now, most 290X's have a delivery date of the 19th, 23rd or 26th of november. Silly AMD, thought you would've stocked up enough

yeah i think i remember that about HD technology. Something like 8tb is the max they can get with how they do it. it's probably different for SSD's, but it's probably not much different either. Today all that stuff is done chemical (through chemical baths and what not) and there is a physical limit to how far you can go with that.

So you are probably wondering how many CUDA cores does GTX 780 Ti have. The rumor has it that we are looking at 2688 cores. Of course 2496 is also possible, but it’s just a speculation. And if you are also wondering why I didn’t post that GPU-z screenshot from Chinese forums, it’s because it was fake.
The leaker also revealed that the launch may happen even sooner than expected. Does NVIDIA feel threatened by R9 290X? Well I can tell you that even manufacturers had no idea about this card before it was announced, the decision to launch it was made very quickly, that’s also why they cannot make a completely new card, rather than redesign existing model (TITAN).
The next two weeks should be full of GeForce GTX 780 Ti information so stay tuned for more. |

The fail is strong in that one.
I truly hope that the 1-year exclusivity means that other manufacturers give them the finger and we get something that's not vendor locked. G-Sync as a product just needs to die a quick death, because this bullshit is bad for us consumers. Keep the tech, kill the product.
Picking ASUS also means it's highly unlikely for us to get a decent monitor (that rules out any and all TN panels), with G-Sync at anything less than 500 EUR. Their decent IPS monitors all cost 500 EUR or more and I'm sorry, but at that price (less, in fact, ASUS are expensive) I'd rather go with Dell, Eizo or LG rather than ASUS
