Would you recommend I wait for this expansion before playing the game for the first time?
Something tells me Firaxis is pulling a Civ 5 here again where the game finally became awesome and complete with the late expansions

Why not try it first? I would say its already awesome.

Thanks for the suggestion but no, I don't believe in "try first" unless it's about making a hard decision of buying or not buying a game. I'll just play the full thing when the time is right
Why even ask then? Stop wasting my time and making assumptions of a game you havent played.
It seems that you didn't quite understand my question
Your question was if you should wait because the expansion expanded the main game right? I said it was already awesome and that you should try it before commenting about how it will be alot better with the expansion like CIV5 did.
The expansion brings new things to the table yes, but I would still rather complete the base game and then have another run with the expansion. This game deserves more than one playthrough if its in your alley.
So no I do not understand why you would flat out say no, when you just asked the question above.

Ok, that right there is the key to this. I just don't have time to play the game twice in a short period of time. I play (or try to play) many other games and I can't afford to spend 17 out of 24 hours a day playing multiple games so I need to dose it right.
I should have cleared that up right from the start
You can delay the story advancing by not doing priority missions. They have no time limit. Council missions have a time limit but do not advance the story.
Yes, but all the tech advances are tied to priority missions, so you'll only get so far before you have to do one to get the next wave of stuff. It is quite useful though at a couple of junctures to allow you to build up your gear, stockpile resources, train up new recruits, etc.
Ah the main missions you mean, I delayed them a few times so I could focus on advancing (like simply not building whatever I had to), made the last mission to easy, complete destruction.
Will wait for the DLC to be on Steam sale (probably summer). Perfect time to replay the game in the state it should have been from the start.

Certainly useful to delay the story while building up psy powers for soldiers.
Speaking of psy powers, don't forget to research the psy suit and equip it on your best psy char. Every time I forget and wonder why I can't launch the final mission....
You can set the option so that saving/loading resets the random seed so you're not locked into the pre-rolled Win/Lose state during each round. Helps "save scummers" but I really don't like the implication that someone is SCUM because they play differently to others, that's a pretty shitty mindset from TwatNews.
Site was quoting lead disainer. If you go to original source you can see that lead disainer sayd it, i don't really care, i have heard that term before and i think it is the 'official' term for that. Its nothing personal, many people use that term for this kind of save/load abuse.

If you want the above result, you just do something else with your characters. But hey its single player...

Nowhere on the original article does the designer call anyone scum nor even hint at it. The afterword came from TwatNews who said "So, feel free to abuse the save system in Enemy Within. Just be mindful that Firaxis won't think very highly of you. There is a reason why it's called scum, after all." Though it still doesn't change the fact that it's a shitty description. Alec on RPS has a point though;
~edit~
Ah wait, my apologies; I see the RPS quote about Jack Solomon "It’s called Save Scum, in honour of what Jake Solomon likes to call players who do this." What a cunt.
Quote:
Won’t affect me, though I am convinced that something’s been done to ensure an inflated number of misses on shots with 90% and above chances – I’d miss on 95% shots far more often than I would on 60 or 70 percenters.
I experienced the same thing when I was playing XCOM; I'd miss FAR more shots with 90%+ chance to hit, than I did with ones that were 70%

Oh I am. I think it's pathetic derogatory bullshit that little shits like to throw around in order to feel superior. I *don't* abuse save/load, but even if I *chose* to do that, it wouldn't give anyone else the right to call me "scum" over it. It's the mindset of a pretentious twat.
"It’s called Save Scum, in honour of what Jake Solomon likes to call players who do this."
So we design a fundamentally broken system that predetermines the outcome before you've even made your move, but if you try and get around that we'll call you scum
I never understood the bullshit to do with reloading a save to get an optimal outcome. It's a single player game, who gives a fuck how someone chooses to play it? It's the same as using cheats or a trainer; people should be free to enjoy a game however they want, without anyone - including the developer - dictating the terms under which fun is allowed.

As an old gamer, I hate games that only permit to save at some "checkpoints". Game shall be awesome to continue my play under that mandate. And only a few have that awesomes.
Maybe this game will be one of those games? I remember having a great time playing it the first and only time i've played it... And yes, I remember to saving and loading a lot.
The customization addons from the Slingshot DLC will be available in the Enemy Within right? I mean not that they are featured in EW, but if you have the Slingshot DLC you can use those in EW.
