4GB limit shouldn't be ab ig problem if it will be handled like in FRAPS, for example: once you hit 4Gb the app just continues the recording process seamlessly in stream_record_2.avi and so on.

That's how it works. It splits to 4GB files; it doesn't stop recording every 4GB. Inconvenient but not catastrophic.

Are You Serious

My fraps records until i tell it to stop. I've only tried like 2-3 videos last week and they were up to 40gb nonsplit.

Or am i missing something obvious here?

Support for >4GB files in fraps was added last year. Last time Kein used it probably still had the limitation.

fraps used to have 4gb limit. Newer versions don't have it. But you can specify that you want files to be split to 4 Gb each.

1) Lenovo Legion 7 (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 16Gb, 32Gb DDR4, SSD 1TB +2TB

2) SFFPC (streaming via Moonlight+ Sunshine)

Dxtory seems to be a popular alternative, haven't used it myself since I actually bought a fraps license. :S

I see.

Well either way i hate all the recorders so far since they drop my fps even if by only a bit.

If this thing does what it says it's supposed to.. then awesome.

dxtory is way more flexible but I have compatibility issues in older games.

From horrific framerates (fraps capturing steady at 30, dxtory capturing at 5) to not capturing at all. Fraps is such an old program and because it existed when those games were out, it's perfectly compatible with them (whatever compatibility issues were found with them, would have been fixed yeeeears ago).

Newer games work ok in dxtory.

So my answer would be uh.. both?

Yeah, you are missing features of the program you use for your recording. FRAPS always had this feature since limitation itself was removed. I assume because of FAT32 users.

In this mode it behaves like in old version

How am i missing features?

I'm just not using it, i got that option. The guy i was talking to made it sound like it does that by default (and as some people already clarified, it used to in older versions which i never used).

He didn't. Whatever your interpretation of his words was - it has nothing to do with actual statement he made: FRAPS can do non-contiguous file/video recording operations seamlessly.

Yes, and? You are desperately trying to push your point and implication that he said FRAPS does that by default while he never ever said or implied that. He said that FRAPS can do such operations and used it as an example in the explanation regarding similar behavior in Shadowplay when it limits its recordings up to 4Gb on Win7 (due to limitations of native Win7 muxer) and that it is not an issue if the recording process will be done in a similar way FRAPS can do in this case: simply split recording by 4GB each part, without stopping the process.

Is there any particular reason you are having hard time to understand it? Was the explanation too complicated to gasp it at once? Should we revise it for people who is having hard time navigating in the context of a subject?

Glad we agree.

Now, back on topic. Browsing MSDN library in Media Foundation section I finally found the limitations they (developers)were talking about:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd757763(v=vs.85).aspx

Quote:
Limitations
The maximum size of the authored file is 4 GB. In Windows 8, files large than 4 GBGB are supported.
The MPEG-4 file sink does not support edit lists ('edts' and 'elst' boxes).

I wonder what was the particular reasoning to use Windows muxing mechanism instead of internal/3rd party?

Actually, no, until the 1.0 release:
Quote:
"Even if it were the case, why doesn't the program write the file and start recording a new one automatically."
Initial beta release won't do this, but we do have it down as a priority change for 1.0.

The only format in the initial release is H.264 .mp4. We use a H.264 encoder chip built onto the GPU, so the only thing you could possibly change with a future release would be the container, e.g. .avi instead of .mp4.

Seems like a great product for people that can't use their brains. People only need quality up to a point and with perfect picture quality people are just uploading to youtube anyway. If you've got an adequate CPU any old program that can record to h264 will do the trick. OBS is nice and free.

This just works though. There is a lot to be said about something that works without issue with little user setup.

From the screenshots in that shadowplay thread the quality is good enough for youtube uploading which is what it is meant for anyways.

I am pissed that shadowplay requires GeForce experience though. Another worthless app collection app that i'm going to have to install now.
