I guess that is why BF4 runs so smoother on Windows 8.

4GB limit shouldn't be ab ig problem if it will be handled like in FRAPS, for example: once you hit 4Gb the app just continues the recording process seamlessly in stream_record_2.avi and so on.

That's how it works. It splits to 4GB files; it doesn't stop recording every 4GB. Inconvenient but not catastrophic.

Support for >4GB files in fraps was added last year. Last time Kein used it probably still had the limitation.

fraps used to have 4gb limit. Newer versions don't have it. But you can specify that you want files to be split to 4 Gb each.
1) Lenovo Legion 7 (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 16Gb, 32Gb DDR4, SSD 1TB +2TB
2) SFFPC (streaming via Moonlight+ Sunshine)

Dxtory seems to be a popular alternative, haven't used it myself since I actually bought a fraps license. :S

I see.
Well either way i hate all the recorders so far since they drop my fps even if by only a bit.
If this thing does what it says it's supposed to.. then awesome.

dxtory is way more flexible but I have compatibility issues in older games.
From horrific framerates (fraps capturing steady at 30, dxtory capturing at 5) to not capturing at all. Fraps is such an old program and because it existed when those games were out, it's perfectly compatible with them (whatever compatibility issues were found with them, would have been fixed yeeeears ago).
Newer games work ok in dxtory.
So my answer would be uh.. both?

He didn't. Whatever your interpretation of his words was - it has nothing to do with actual statement he made: FRAPS can do non-contiguous file/video recording operations seamlessly.

Yes, and? You are desperately trying to push your point and implication that he said FRAPS does that by default while he never ever said or implied that. He said that FRAPS can do such operations and used it as an example in the explanation regarding similar behavior in Shadowplay when it limits its recordings up to 4Gb on Win7 (due to limitations of native Win7 muxer) and that it is not an issue if the recording process will be done in a similar way FRAPS can do in this case: simply split recording by 4GB each part, without stopping the process.
Is there any particular reason you are having hard time to understand it? Was the explanation too complicated to gasp it at once? Should we revise it for people who is having hard time navigating in the context of a subject?

Glad we agree.
Now, back on topic. Browsing MSDN library in Media Foundation section I finally found the limitations they (developers)were talking about:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd757763(v=vs.85).aspx
Quote: | Limitations
The maximum size of the authored file is 4 GB. In Windows 8, files large than 4 GBGB are supported.
The MPEG-4 file sink does not support edit lists ('edts' and 'elst' boxes). |
I wonder what was the particular reasoning to use Windows muxing mechanism instead of internal/3rd party?
consolitis wrote: | That's how it works. It splits to 4GB files; it doesn't stop recording every 4GB. Inconvenient but not catastrophic. |
Actually, no, until the 1.0 release:
Quote: | "Even if it were the case, why doesn't the program write the file and start recording a new one automatically."
Initial beta release won't do this, but we do have it down as a priority change for 1.0. |

The only format in the initial release is H.264 .mp4. We use a H.264 encoder chip built onto the GPU, so the only thing you could possibly change with a future release would be the container, e.g. .avi instead of .mp4. |

AVI needs to fucking die already

Ah ... the internet
Spoiler: |
123
So according to these charts the 290x is 40% faster than Toxic 280x which already trades blows with reference 780 on alot of games..? suuuure..
amdsucks
R9 280X trade blows with the GTX Titan? What r u smoking dude? Must be some good stuff, please share with me..
LOL You AMD Fangirls need to check again, The GTX 780 is faster than the R9 280X.. It trade blows with the R9 290 which is a sissy card.
nvidiasucks
read; Toxic 280x, trades blows with 780, not titan. nvidia fanboys skip school to fap to pics of titan by looks of it.
amdsucks
HAHAHAHA, Only one tile and also there it needs to be overclocked to beat the GTX 780 lolol.. You know the 780 can be overclocked too or are you too desperate? lol
nvidiasucks
herp derp retard, the chinese charts say 290x is 40% faster than toxic. if thatâs true then the card will kill titan considering toxic already trades blows with 780. and 1 title? sure
amdsucks
Lol two titles compared to the dozen i posted from the same site. Fail card is fail, canât even beat a HD 7970 GE a year after its launch. Radeon R for Rebrand series is a fail.
nvidiasucks
And? My point was far from discussing your $600 card to a $350 card, itâs entirely different market. Point was the charts say R9 290x is 40% faster than Sapphire Toxic 280x, if thatâs indeed the case, the performance is rather impressive.
HDShatter .
Best bang/buck is 2 of those $350 cards if you donât mind the occasional game failing at crossfire scaling (typically older games that were bad ports that run above max on 1 gpu anyway.)
I want to see a comparison between 2 R9-280x and a Titan. I guarantee the 2 R9-280x would wipe the floor with the Titan/780 and R9-290x.
Dima
hhhh 2*R9-280X TOXIC EDITION vs 1 GTX 780??
r9-280X will bitch slap the hell froom titan nonthe less from the GTX 780
and all for 700$
_John_
You forgot to up vote your post here.
HDShatter .
Really kid? The 700 series equal to the R8-280x, the 770 is a rebranded 680.
Claudiu Peagu
Itâs so sad how your mother failed youâŚ
amdsucks
wE SHARE THE SAME MOTHER FAGGET
_John_
So you are proud showing a card with half the price to be less than 20% slower? How clever!
amdsucks
No, im showing a card that was launched months ago and is still the best card on the market compared to the so called âNew Radeonâ cards
_John_
If you say so. Now give a few more votes to your posts. That way everyâŚself of you will agree with you.
_John_
Are you voting your own posts? Nice!
anon-sama
Iâd really like to see how this card does on opencl ._.
amdsucks
Let me tell you⌠It fails hard!
anon-sama
Hah. Jokeâs on you. 7970 shits all over your lovely titan in GPGPU.
You know, if you cry some more, I might just drown in your nvidiafag tears.
Garainis
Too bad AMD can`t write their drivers properly (or make hardware) for that GPGPU power. OpenCL support my ass. Meanwhile CUDA is the king of 3D GPU rendering world.
nvidia SUX HARD
So a 650$ gpu beast the hell out of an 1000$ gpu. The point â is go buy nvidia if you are a crazy bastard or go with the better and cheeper that always was AMD.
Maximilian
I would if their drivers werenât so shit.
guest
Between may and august there were no performance drivers for amd cards
Komputurnurd
Shitty AMD drivers?
Iâve worked with multiple setups, ranging from the Ati X1900 XTX to the 6950 and Nvidias 7800 series to a GTX 765M.
My personal judgement, Nvidias graphics tend to be more instable than AMDs. It all depends on the PC config. I personally prefer the AMD drivers.
amdsucks
Amd sissy fag, their drivers are shit, their cards still stutter months after launch, their HD 7000 series is a stutter fest, the only thing holding them back is the Never Shitty bundle with sissy titles such as Saints Row IV, lol who plays that shit?
jimbo75
You realise that âNever Shittyâ means itâs always good, right?
3lackDeath
Lol good one

Seems like a great product for people that can't use their brains. People only need quality up to a point and with perfect picture quality people are just uploading to youtube anyway. If you've got an adequate CPU any old program that can record to h264 will do the trick. OBS is nice and free.

This just works though. There is a lot to be said about something that works without issue with little user setup.
From the screenshots in that shadowplay thread the quality is good enough for youtube uploading which is what it is meant for anyways.
I am pissed that shadowplay requires GeForce experience though. Another worthless app collection app that i'm going to have to install now.
