So my desktop comp is a POS ... anyways ...
It seems to just freeze up randomly. Sometimes it can be on for hours without doing it .. sometimes minutes. It even stopped working when I was setting the timezone and country during a fresh install of winxp.
Any ideas? It was really, really, really dusty inside, so I cleaned it all out. But I doubt that was really it ...
specs:
amd 2000+, 512 DDR RAM, ati AGP graphics, PCI tv tuner, PCI ethernet card, 20gb and 80gb IDE HD.
I guess the real problem is that I have no idea how to figure out whats wrong

deactivate devices for the computer you dont need. Like Parallel Ports, Com Ports, Game Ports, maybe USB Ports and for fucks sake, even the damn floppy. Save some IRQ's, maybe it will run smoother then.

I work in a computer shop and we do repairs and upgrades here. I remember a machine that came into us about a week or go that had random freezing symptoms and there was no pattern to it whatsoever. Sometimes it froze loading Windows, sometimes it froze on the desktop and sometimes it would go for ours without freezing at all. I tested the memory as I know that to be a common culprit but that tested fine. I removed all PCI cards but it was still doing it. I then took the CPU out just to have a look at it as I had looked at everything else! It seemed fine so I put it back in and it didnt crash at all for the next 2 days or so it was at the shop! The customer collected it and I havent heard from them since which was about 5 days ago now!

Is there an easy way to test the memory (besides removing it)?

Use memtest86. Download the iso whack it on a disc and boot up with it in your drive.

Check the electric capacitors on your motherboard, maybe some of them are leaking or they are bulged.

I would try replacing the hard drive if possible is the drive noisy?
If you have more than one stick of ram try swapping this around.
A freind of mine recommneds cleaning ram contacts with Isopropyl Alcohol.

a quick search on google found me a link saying that some motherboards set vcore to 1.75 it should be about 1.63. try lowering the vcore if your bios has the option and see if that helps. thats quite hot for motherboard temps. you got any fans in your case?

haha..
The temps look "ok" your CPU could be cooler but should be fine at 46c (you may want to keep an eye on it when gaming, if its nearing 60c you should be thinking about a better cooling solution).. However, that MOBO temp of 53c worries me, but it does depend on where the reader is, on a lot of mobo's the temp reader for the mainboard is under the CPU, meaning you generally get very hot results, this could be the case for your mobo, however I would still expect it to be around the same as your CPU, its almost 10c over that. Thars all on the heat from as I doubt thats the issue.
My guess is either RAM or HDD, since you removed both and it now works. I wouldnt worry so much about the other devices as you stated it froze during an install when these devices where not in use. Sure they had an IRQ at this point which is the number 1 cause of crashing in PC's (multiple devices with the same IRQ (not within the virtual IRQ range 9+)). But this would happen when the devices where being used at the same time. As the HDD is around 40gb, your running a 2000XP I would assume the HDD is at least a few years old (2003?) so its no doubt the problem, could of just been a big buggered.
Needless to say the issue is now fixed. Let us know about your cooling methods.

It could be a heat prob, mobo is kinda high is that under load?...how many exshaust fans you got I can't see any. If I were you I would upgrade your case...you do have a heat issue anyway.
