Seems like some of you didn't even bother to play the game before coming to conclusions. NBA2k14 is night and day of 2k13 on both consoles and pc. Player textures on pc are confirmed to be double the size this year. The graphics are absolutely stunning on pc and there is no graphical downgrade this time. Stadium lighting is there, high-res courts are there, face and body details are phenomenal (we knew already they hired 2 decent modders of the community for NBA2k14-one of them is Leftos).
And all the above are only the gfx improvements. The gameplay improvements are superb. Everything is organic.
- Blocks
- Colissions and contact in the paint is finally here
- Cpu movement on attack and defense is great-defensive rotations work like a charm
- Defense is a joy to play
- LB button hold which brings the smart play option is so good and works perfectly in ALL situations
- It plays almost perfectly out of the box on All Star-Sim and Superstar-Sim sliders 12mins quarters
- Post play is for the first time in the series great
- Spacing is greatly improved
- Passing is finally organic and smooth. The "fancy" pass feature is nice
- I have already heard hundreds of new lines by the commentators
- Every team plays different and like in real life.
Just to clarify about my previous post, I haven't tried the game yet of course, was just reporting what I gathered from sites like NBA Series Center and the likes . I'm actually glad they're wrong!
Just installed it, will post screens from Bulgaria later.

How do you know they're wrong if you haven't tried it yet!? Please go play it and be back soon with your own mini-review
I checked both NLSC and Operationsports (the former being my preferred site) and both contradict each other when it comes to the PC version of the game. So as you can imagine, I'm pretty confused
New controls take some getting used to. Why the hell do they change them every year lol. But the My Player mode finally has working Play Vision. Big question is will it crash if you win the NBA championship..
I just tried it
There is no proper lighting/shadowing just like in previous pc versions
yup another year and another disappointment in that area... may be a small niggle to some but I just dont like it without the proper lighting, going to stick to the 360 version even though id love to play it on PC with all the AA and shit

It's not bad at all in my opinion, haven't played much but so far like it's been said the physics seem improved with better collisions, spacing, contacts (thanks to the new animations); AI has a varied teamplay and the pace is more than adequate even at default speed. Let's say that everything has been refined.
I still need to get used to the new blocking system and modified controls, but they surely feel natural.
Graphically the game is nice all things considered. Like Fearwhatnow mentioned, faces are especially good this year, but stadiums/kits are detailed too. I don't know if the lighting system is identical to the console versions, but the overall result is better than the previous game in my opinion:
(vanilla)
I forced SSAO via nvidiainspector using the Diablo III profile (performance), plus addedd some vibrance with one of those ENBs and it looks better now:
@ixigia well, thanks for the info and the pics Now, I wonder if there isn't some annoying bugs with the gameplay, 2K is well-known for not giving post-release support to the PC version of the game. Patches come like 8 months later and sometimes there's never a patch :\
from what i have played so far, there seems to be nothing that cant be fixed with the right rosters, sliders and coach setting.
the ai is more balanced, sure thye look inside a lot as any team does, but a few double teams early down low will actually effectively force them onto other options.
as the heat, who dont exactly have a good matchup against duncan down low, i managed to double with james every time (off tony parker) and this allowed me to worry less about PiP. in fact i focused solely on getting duncan out of the game and it worked. (as in he only got 18 and 9....m happy with that.
they go to the post a lot, call plays a lot, so things you always hoped they would.
I still would like to see less paint pressure, but thats only maybe 10-15% less, and offensive rebouding is abundant, but again only a small tweak is needed. the only other problem i think is steals and blocks may be a little too prevelant, but they are so fun .
haven't found a massive gameplay glitch yet, neither has anyone on OS, its only day 2, but the fast break and reboudinng issue was all over the place by now for 2k13.
So is it good or not? Opinions are either "just a roster update" or "the game is way better than 13".
I bet they haven't touched the association? Last 2K I played was 2k12 and dynasty mode was absolutely horrible there.
go to practice axeration: get used to the controls and timing of the shot stick. i make that mistake once every 3 games still. but i know it will sort itself out.
LOLBILLSHIT: as said, if you want new features...this isn;t the game for you.
if you want better sim gameplay. (and you fully understand what sim nba basketball gameplay entails.) then this game will be a great great update for you.
as i said, worthy of the £30 if i had to buy it??.....probably but only because im a hardcore nba fan, and need an nba video game to supplement my league pass subscription that i buy every year.
but for people who just want to try out an nba basketball game and didn;t quite enjoy 2k13, im not sure this has really revolutionized anything that will make you all of a sudden fall in love with the game.
this game is for the hardcore nba fans honestly, the ones who knew exactly what was wrong with 2k13 gameplay wise, and who wanted those things fixed. its not 100% there. but it has everything it needs to in its sliders, rosters, and coach setting to truly give the sim head the perfect game of basketball that has ever been released. its only day 3 though....but not glitches that could prove the above statement wrong have been found.
im slightly drunk, so my post/rant will end here with a happy statement of encouragement....please try it.... and i hope you enjoy it.
god i cant wait for the nba season. i was just at the pub trying to convince 10+ friends i play football with how much better basketball is as a sport.
I think i almost won some people over. then i started talking about moneyball and baseball and they kind of wrote me off.
i just notice i promised to end my post three lines above this one. apologies.
It's still just Y afaik there's nothing different there, you can just block a lot easier it seems. You can also block from behind and stuff (again) which is pretty sweet for stopping break away lay ups.
I guess that depends on what you want to do in the game. Me personally, I just want to play a full 82-game season (+playoffs?) with my favourite team.
I want to play a good association obviously
Things I encountered in 2K11 association:
Rookie generation absolutely horrible (looks, stats, tendencies). I had to edit every rookie manually each season.
Tons of bugs like coaches being fired every 3 days.
AI total stupidity in trading (you can easily get all 5 top picks in a year, teams don't rate them at all before the lottery (but after the season)).
Tendencies changing every year (to simulate player progression?) with no sense. Every player had their 3 pt shooting tendency increasing by at least 5 every year so in 2016 season I had guys like Blake Griffin and Brook Lopez attempt 4 3pt shots A GAME.
I do notice some shit is still a bit jagged although applying in-game 8x msaa and aa quality to '3'.
Yeah, I noticed that as well. The in-game AA might be bugged, it isn't awful but if you pay attention you can notice. I might resort to forcing AA through Nvidia Inspector. I'm already forcing "High Quality" SSAO with Inspector and my gpu doesn't break a sweat and I get constant 60 fps with in-game vsync enabled.
Yes, I'll turn it off and use 8xMSAA and 8xSGSS, we'll see what that does.
Edit: A'right! that worked beautifully! no jaggies whatsoever now! No need AA behavior flags.. just override and 8x/8x. Make sure to turn Off the game's MSAA completely.
