Hey guys,

I have this kind of old pc, a Q8400 with a GTX 560 and 4 gigs of DDR3 1333 (G41 mobo). Now, I gave this to a friend of mine, and I also bought him another stick of 4GB DDR3 1333 CL9(just as the first one), but, the first stick of memory is an XMS3 stick (some fancy radiator) and the second one is a Value Select stick (no radiator), other than that, the Corsair page for both of them clearly says the clocks, latency etc is the same. Now, when only one of them is placed on the mobo, it stays at 1333, but when both of them are put in, they stay at 1066 MHz. Can this be avoided? Is there a workaround? Is this expected behavior? The mobo only has two slots for memory, both of them are blue and the maximum RAM amount which can be put in is 8 gigs.

Please note, the PC will be used mainly for gaming and not really much else, except for the usual, browsing, music, movies, etc, will the clocks make any difference in these usage situations?

Thank you in advance and please excuse my seriously noobish question, I have no experience with RAM.

My guess is that you'll need to enable XMP; the Value one is most likely a 1066 stick with a 1333 XMP profile.

I see. I will try this tonight. Thank you very much.

Will it make a difference, though?
