So i moved out a few weeks ago after getting a deal that sounded way too good to be true. They wanted a quiet guy who doesn't party or play loud music etcetc. Holy fucking shit the irony. They told me they babysit their daughters kids once in a while, but not too often. FUCK SAKE, the kids are here 3 days or so during weekdays and almost every day during the weekends. floor above is badly isolated so every step they take sounds like a loud sub, and 1 of the kids keep running aaaaall the time. But not only running, he screams, yells and stops once in a while just to stomp his feet. But when both their daughters have all their kids here, it's a hellish existence and i can't escape the sounds unless i take a walk. Taking a walk is ok in itself, but being forced to go outside my rented apartment to escape the sounds from small hellish beasts should me more or less a deal breaker. Unfortunately due to some circumstances i'm unable to move from this place for quite a while and have to endure this crap.
I want to talk to those who rented it out, but when i start whining about their granddaughters i'm pretty sure they won't take it too well. Leave it to me to always make a bad situation worse.
The only thing i can complain about with the actual renters is that they are freaking restless at times, and their sub is on the floor so i bet my left hand that i hear it louder than they do. This isn't all that bad in itself, i can endure that. But the lack of isolation is the obvious issue.

Don't do the typical Scandinavian way, just go have a talk with them.
They probably don't even know there is a problem. At least try to resolve it, because letting it be will most likely result in a worse outcome than maybe some hurt ego. 
And sure kids will be kids but there is a difference with children playing and children just doing whatever they feel like. And seems with years passing it's more and more children just doing the fuck they want

I can relate to this a lot...
In the last apartment I lived in as well as this one now I have kids above me.
In both apartments the kids used to drive some shit on wheels around the flat and ram them into walls (well it fucking sounded like that) and especially at around 6:30 in the morning.
They also liked doing something that sounded like running into walls with all their strength.
Sounds retarded but I sure can't explain what else they did 
The same thing in both apartments...
The current kid also likes to scream on the damn staircase and since it is acoustic as a concert hall, everyone can hear that we have a potato living in the building.
He liked to bark at the dog before he entered the apartment, and he also couldn't normally descend or ascend a staircase... Nooooo, he had to count every damn stair!
If he didn't, then he would scream like someone was pulling hair from his nostrils 
And to top everything, when he was younger, his family sometimes left him outside of the apartment to cool off where he would cry and sob for a while. Sometimes I wanted to call cops and tell them they are neglecting him.
His mom doesn't take care of him because he was an accident, and an accident with some mobster who is now in jail... I kinda feel sorry for the kid because he's growing up without parents care, but someone should really contain him and teach him some manners, and show the rest of his family that he won't raise himself.
The good thing is that kids do grow up and stop being a nuisance, but it takes time and they still tend to do shit that could wake up a stone golem, not to mention a normal human.
The best thing you can do is to move out, or get used to it and wait for the kids to get older. Since you can't move out, you should start practicing achieving tranquility

They won't change the way they raise their kids just because of the new neighbor.
Get better earplugs.
What I would do: Start playing loud music. Once they complain, you say it's because you can't stand the kids yelling and such.

dayum i guess i got really lucky with my apartment. The walls are uber thick and Ive only heard quiet thumping sounds less than 10 times in over 2 years ive lived there and I can sometimes hear people next to my room using their closet. Im always listening to loud music, watching movies and playing guitar really fucking loud and no one has said anything yet. The owner lives in finland and doesnt really give a fuck what we do there

I don't expect them to let me dictate how they raise their children, but i do expect them to tell them to quiet down once they start rampaging for extended periods.

Same here, without the heavy duty sound proofing I guess.
More expensive than the average, sure, but real close to work, real quiet and the landlord pretty much gives me free reign over it

I'm 2 seconds from ripping my fucking hair off. Woke up to some stomping shit at 7am and it's been going on and off the entire day. Just now the shit has found out it must be fun to jump down from things... It's been thundering above my head for half an hour. Need to get the fuck out of here.

Well call Police or Securitas (yeh I find you scandinavians weird for not having it as a police matter). People can't just do whatever in apartments when it is damaging your health.
I gotta say it was much easier dealing with such shit in Belgium than in Sweden tho. The law around here is lacking.

Kids starting making noise, put on some glorious death metal. Hell you can put up some jazz or beethoven, just make it loud enough =P
I've been having the same situation with people above me for the past year, they were kicked out of thier apartment last month finally after nearly all of the building complained
2 parents way too young, no education whatsoever, raising this kid with no idea how to. Kid as ADD they have no clue wtf to do, kid didnt seem to go to school or anything(he wasl ike 7) just ran around the tiny apartment all day everyday.
tried ttalking to them multiple times but both the dad and mom werent really receptive to any kind of critisicm, pretty much a go fuck yourself each conversation.
now I know its a shitty thing to do, but i woke those fuckers up at 4 am for 2 weeks every day.they came to the door once, told them to they could do something about their kid or go fuck themselves. problem was pretty much gone after that. think they eventually got thrown out because you werent allowed to live with 3 people here(its like student apartment housing)

Fuck sake. If it's not the kids, it's the damn neighbors. That fucking idiot has been walking and walking for hours and is now doing something right above my head, and of course he likes to drop whatever he's doing on the bare floor, and it's such a loud sudden sound that i jump a little when it happens. Like a hard object against the wooden wall, which i hear down here with perfect clarity as if i did it down here. Everything they do annoys me now, i've complained, but they of course brushed it of and ignored it completely. When the kids are not here i fucking expect to get some piece and quiet, but nooooooooo when they are not here i guess it's time to get done what they couldn't because the kids were here so i have to endure this fucking shit regardless. But what can i do? No where else to live in this god damned shit hole.
And these fucks asked me i I were a quiet person cause another guy who rented liked to talk a bit loud and had his TV a bit loud as well. Fucking priceless.

Only way to deal with assholes like that is to do what he is doing but 1000 times louder. So he can learn it the hard way, so he stops doing it.
Whenever our tenants have fight (dude comes home drunk, almost every day).
I start blasting music so hard that they calm down and they threat me they will call police. . I guess they are already forgetting just seconds ago son made death threats again his drunk father. That's pretty much every day. |
