It is listed under device audio manager as multimedia audio controller.

The xonar software don't work and speaker icon is disabled.

I cannot even install drivers - it says that the card is not present in the system. What now... dafuq. I was only playing some metro last light yesterday.

I have already made my bed so access to my pc is not possible Laughing I will reinsert it tomorrow but I've not touched my pc, so it shouldn't detach itself or anything

50km is like 5€ on your average car? Maybe less even?

Or just use integrated lul

I don't have a car ffs. I don't want to waste hours on train. + I don't have money to spend on a card right now or time to go back and forth to rma it.

IF I would have to end buying another card, I would get some fiio stuff or external card on a stick or smth.. internals are bad as it seems. My xonar jsut died (maybe not) and creative have bad rep with drivers too (I remember my both old creative cards had plenty of problems)

But seriously, why bother these days? Is there any actual benefit to having an extra soundcard instead of using integrated one?
Unless you got like 5000€ sound system maybe.

Got those, but I'm pretty sure they cost closer to 15€ when I bought them O_o
I guess it could be worth it as I got external AVR that all my sound goes through aswell but dunno, maybe some day.
But only time I use my headphones is when playing CSGO anyway, other times I just use my speakers.

I would try doing it like this:

1. Uninstall anything Xonar related from 'Programy i funkcje'.

2. Reboot.

3. Go to the Device Manager, expand 'Kontrolery dźwięku, wideo i gier'.

4. Check if your ASUS is there. If there is, right click on it and select 'Odinstaluj'. Check 'Usuń oprogramowanie storownika dla tego urządzenia' and click OK.

5. Reboot and try to install the latest drivers now.

EDIT: Here are some unofficial drivers: http://danielkawakami.blogspot.com/

You can try those.

thanks but did that all already. I've read that eeprom on xonar cards might RANDOMLY overwrite itself but it seems that its not a cause on mine card.

I guess I will have to wait for tomorrow so I will put it in another slot. Or I will just ditch it

Try putting it into different PCI slot tomorrow.

If that doesn't work, try one of the restoration methods from that site. There's nothing to lose anyway.

If you have an AVR then hook it up to your PC via optical output and you don't need a sound card...And it's likely gonna sound better than any PC sound card too.

Dayum, I was always under the assumption that those SP/DIF cables cost a fortune, but they really don't!
I think I really have to get one of those asap.

Thanks for the tip Wink

Xonar D2X is still working pretty OK here, there was a bios update in 2008 - 2009 somewhere though which might have helped.

As for the drivers the official are a bit outdated and was mostly just changed to support Windows 8 officially so I'm using these unified ones instead and it's working great so far. Smile
http://maxedtech.com/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/

Should it die I guess it's between the Creative Z series or the later Asus Xonar models.
(Maybe the Phoebus just for the hell of it, get some better speakers too like the Corsair ones maybe.)

Creative at their best.

Still better than faulty EEPROM though. Failed Troll

tonizito wrote:

You're right. Derpsoles usually signal a failure with red or yellow diodes. PC soundcards don't.

Going from Xonar D2X to SB Z would actually be a downgrade in sound quality. Wink

Phoebus Solo seems like an interesting sound card. It's basically the older Phoebus stripped off of all the unnecessary gadgets.

The problems with it are low availability, and the fact that it's using a different chip than any other Xonar. As a result, there are no modified drivers.

Interesting fact: the 'main component' of SoundBlaster ZxR is basically 1:1 Xonar STX. Wink

Oh, cool! Glad it's fixed.

I hope it stays that way!

One more question... actually 2.

I've been testing differences between alc892 and xonar dg and asus is indeed better. Similiar on front output panel but terrible in rear output.
Xonar is good on both rear and fron outputs and is just louder and cleaner.

but my question is - since I was doing some plugging and unplugging of HD fron panel audio connector, both to the motherboard and xonar dg (back and forth) I've noticed that one of the plastic pins is bent.
Now I remember FOR SURE, that it was bent like that since I got that fractal 300 case.

What does that mean? should it be like that?
Sound coming from rear and fron outputs is the same btw

edit: actually i've checked pics of that connector online and it seems that it shouldnt be dented. But its impossible to insert the plug without that part bending

Answering my own question !

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-015851.htm

Seem that the plastic that is bent on mine connector is for "PRESENCE#"

"Active low signal that signals BIOS that an Intel® HD Audio dongle is connected to the analog header. PRESENCE# = 0 when an Intel® HD Audio dongle is connected"

good. It have nothing to do with the quality of sound and everything seems to be detecting itself fine, so it is working
