|
 |
I have a NEC 3500AG DVD burner and it used to burn and copy just fine, but lately when I burn or copy my whole computer slows down to the point I can't even play a song or open an internet explorer window! I have 1500MB of DDR dual channel which should be more than enough. Also the burning proccess takes longer no matter what speed I choose. If I burn at X8 it can take up to 20 mins!
Thanks in adavnce for any help given.

make sure DMA is enabled. i had the same problem once and DMA was disabled, and no way of enabling it. what i had to do was, uninstall IDE and reboot windoz to let it reinstall and everything was fine again

Well DMA is enabled but in "Multi-Word DMA Mode 2"
I thought the HD should work at Ultra DMA Mode 5 and DVD/CD at DMA Mode 2. What is this Multi-Word shit?

Well I don't know what this Multi-Word is but it seems that after I uninstalled the IDEs ,everything was back to normal. Thanks for your help.

Were they NVidia drivers you trashed?
I have an NEC burner my self and Multi-Word DMA set on the drive using the NVidia IDE drivers. I have not had any problems, except burning anything from my SIS IDE Controller, always suspected NVidia's IDE driver. When I had my VIA motherboard in place everything burnt fine from that Controller...
