I just did a test run for this game and it looks and runs miles better than the crap on 360, but I'm experiencing some massive frame rate drops intermittently @Ultra Spec 1080p. It goes from 54 to 30 frames. I'm not even sure what's so demanding in this game, foliage rendering?
Ultra enables SSDO (Instead of SSAO.) and a number of other features, it also greatly increases draw distance of certain objects such as shadows so it's a pretty demanding preset even in this game.
From the Cvar files it seems to be mostly standard CryEngine 3.4 (Or somewhere around that version.) settings and a few custom ones to better fit this game so the game will still be quite demanding just like Crysis 2 and the CryEngine SDK releases before the recent 3.5.x branch from Crysis 3.
(Which is even more demanding but this game does not use that version of the engine.)
Also the game is limited to DX9 so some of the features might not perform quite as good as they should which might also limit performance although on the plus side there's no tessellation to worry about.
(And whatever other shader effects are exclusive to D3D11 in CryEngine.)
For now you need to use a 16:9 aspect-ratio based resolution I believe.
(Up to 1920x1080, I'm unsure if it can exceed that or if doing so will cause the same problems even under 16:9 aspect.)

Beck, thanks for the explanation. I wasn't aware it used CryEngine. The shadows aren't perfectly rendered though. Also, are there any tweaks in the CVAR files with which we can remove the ambient occlusion altogether?
The resolution is pissing me off bigtime... 720p is unplayable for me in fullscreen (got 16:10 1680x1050 native) and 1080p always cuts off a chunk of the picture on the right instead of giving me black bars. Tried a bit with the driver but no success (up/downscaling etc...).
New nVidia drivers out, 331.40 beta, bringing official SLi profiles to a bunch of games - including State of Decay. None for Shadow Warrior though, which is very odd.
most buggiest, crap performance vs looks game i've played since Vampires: Bloodlines
Really? Ran rather smooth here. It makes the GPU work harder than it should for sure, but nope seen way worse examples out there (and that's comparing released games with an 'Early stage' one )
Yeah, the game was sys-heavy but on the "Max" preset it ran full speed for me- it's not the most graphically awesome game ever, but I got 60 all the time and it was definitely not very buggy either. Couple of times I was caught on a curbstone, unable to WALK on it, having to jump instead, and one strange bug near the start that I had to quit/reload the game to clear, but other than that? Mostly smooth sailing
I have a solution for 1080p and 16:10 aspect monitor, with windowedborderlessgaming tool.
1. start the game
2. alt+enter (going windowed mode)
3. in game change the resolution to 720p
4. now change it to 1080p
5. now go to windowsborderleesgameing tool and press "open game settings"
6. fill the resolution 1680x1050 and posx=0 Posy=0
7. apply it
8. there you go, the game is perfectly fit in, the crosschair is Ok, radar ok, Ui is not missing in the right, Graphic is way better than 720p
For me if i simply change it to 1080p and applying WBG tool the picture is off the screen to the right. with this method it is working i dont know why! (i have update 3)

Already tried that.. enjoy your stick figures. Every is squished together with this (obviously).
I'd rather have borders... works in 720p but not 1080p for some reason. Makes no sense. Forceware isn't able to enforce it either. Can't believe that a CE game gives me so much crap with the resolution. 720p looks like a horrible vaseline smearfest in fullscreen.. as usual. But it's the only one that doesn't fuck up your view width or UI

Sometimes it is not working for me too, but after 2-3 times changing resolution while in windowed mod, it works
most buggiest, crap performance vs looks game i've played since Vampires: Bloodlines
laugh your ass off, the amount of time i was getting stuck in the bushes, unable to shoot my weapon while having enough ammo, zombies going through walls and doors, cars flying for no reason while driving at slow speed
pretty sure i forgot something, but this one just one bugfest and it runs smooth till u drive further and it starts to lag immensely
again haven't experienced so many buggs since vampires
plus apart from vegetation it looks like a ps2 game and should run at 120 fps stable, feels like and alpha build to me, that is after 2 patches
haven't tested 360 version but i can imagine how it runs on that beatbox
Well then i was extremely lucky, or you extremely unlucky. Because i had non of those bugs, except Zeds rarely clipping through a door when i closed it in front of them.
Graphically it looks really good too.
Seems something on your end is not ok..

You got me wrong there. It is working... but the image is squished together and every character becomes a stick figure.
I'd rather have black bars on top and bottom than a squished image. But for some reason, neither the game gets this right nor is NV Forceware able to enforce this for some reason.

Just dled the config files and mod them to suit your screen.
I have 1680x1050 and it works great for my screen. I just kept the file and folder where I changed the resolution settings and deleted the rest.
State of Decay/Game/libs/config/meleeprototype.cfg
Oh gawd, thank you so much. That really kinda worked. Still not perfect (I guess that's up to the devs) but at least I can play in a good resolution without a fucked up UI and no cut-offs.
State of Decay sells one million copies (XBLA+PC) and Breakdown DLC to arrive shortly.
Quote:
The Breakdown add-on will contain a story-less Sandbox mode, new weapons, and new "Hero" NPCs that can carry items and do a better job of protecting players.
