So, i took a shot in the dark and started watching this anime. I don't watch anime really, but i thought "what the heck". I have seen like 35 episodes now, and i have never been so confused in my life. I don't understand a single person in that series, they are seriously weird. They have seriously confused emotions which doesn't make any sense much of the time. Many villains, bad guys in general have the most ridiculous outfits and hairstyles you can imagine, well, i couldn't imagine them because they are that ridiculous. Cat ears, goat horns, cat tactile hair, cow/cat mix and loads more with surely LOADS more to come.
Regardless of all that diarrhea in this series i still find it amusing, and i actually enjoy it. I find most of the time when a episode is done that i instantly have to switch on the next to get what happens. I like the main goal the main characters set for themselves and want to see them through. Though I often want to punch someone because of the ridiculousness of the show, but still enjoy it. I guess this shows weird confusion is contagious
I didn't know what to expect, as i said this is basically the first anime show i've tried watching. I knew of the weird shocked faces and some other silly details.
One Piece is a bad show as a starter anime since it is so long and still running. They are up to episode 610 or so plus have 12 movies and a lot of specials. If you stick with it though, there are a lot of good story arcs.
With One Piece in the US, the network it was airing on tweaked the first 100-150 episodes to make them less violent and remove anything they found offensive. All the soldiers used water guns and characters that smoked ended up sucking on lollipops among other amusing tweaks.
Here is a nice comparison video but it might have some spoilers with characters and things.
I will take the recommendation of the boxing anime. I like such shows. I also saw my little brother watching another anime about some guy aiming to become an astronaut or was one, don't really know. I like these, but i also don't mind a bit goofy, and one piece is actually over the border for me with the goofyness, but i'll stick with it a bit more and see. Like i said, i find the story line interesting. One question though about one piece, i know it's long, so my question is, do they drag things out painfully long in a boring way?
I'm a one show at a time guy, so i'll have to wait before i start watching another series.
One Piece will probably be over 1000 episodes before any of the crew reach their goals so I am not sure if you consider that long and boring or not. With any long running anime, they do have filler arcs because the anime was getting to the point where the manga was so they were out of story for a while and had to do filler stories.
Each of the arcs has a main bad guy usually and about 35 episodes in you are probably on the Arlong arc or close to it. If you like the way that arc plays out, then you will probably like some of the other arcs that follow.
As far as the goofiness, Luffy is 17yrs old and is just carefree and fun going like his buddy Shanks was on an grand adventure with his friends. As the show progresses Luffy does get a little more serious but still can be goofy at times as that is just his nature as he is trying to have fun.
So i checked Hunter x hunter and i loved it.... Until they reached Yorknew city. It became messy to say the least, and really lost most of the charm it had before those episodes. I didn't like the sudden change to technology and gaming or use of pc at all times in general. This show gives me the impression that it's really confused about what to be, and what time period to be set in.
Ohh and i never thought id see Iphone and Heineken advertising in an anime
One Piece is made of win, if you don't count the fillers ofcourse.
HxH is made of pure win.
FMA Brotherhood is made of win.
Death Note was awesome.
Ginga are all awesome, original and Densetsu Weed
GTO (Great Teacher onizuka) A former motorcycle gang member who becomes a teacher to make a difference and... to meet girls? Using his street smarts to deal with colleagues, students and troublemakers.
Great anime tho some of the later eps ain't that good.
Planetes : It is the year 2075. In a world where travelling between Earth, the space stations and the Moon has become commonplace. Hachimaki is just an ordinary salaryman. He works at a space station collecting dangerous space debris. However, he dreams of owning his very own space ship someday.
ar part of my favourites.(Havent seen them for a while though)
But there are so many good animes out there.
One Piece kind of lost me after Thriller Bark, but I still read the manga to know whats going on.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Saw a few reviews of this show on YT, according to those the show is pretty awful the first seasons(!) and then starts getting really, really good.. Personally i'm not willing to watch several seasons of "meh"..
Started watching Attack on Titan.. Extremely impressed with that show! Absolutely on my top 5-list of animes.. Edit: ah, i see that more people have discovered it in the thread, good.. good..
damn, i was given "everything" my friend anime collector had on onepiece, and when i reached thriller bark there came a major gap and it misses ALOT of episodes :/ after googling a bit i see that they haven't been properly translated. Seriously weird.
I can only recommend Death Note, Great Teacher Onizuka and Hajime no Ippo. These 3 are incredible, DN being ridiculously good and has a lot of intense episodes, while the other 2 provide awesome humour.

That's odd.. Which episodes are they? I only miss 1 episode between 1 and 614, and I highly doubt I'd watch something without subs. They might be considered improperly translated I guess, I wouldn't know the difference . Unfortunately, I don't have a group in the filenames, nor can I find a hint to the group in the intro..
Only managed to find this bit of info;
Episodes 303-342 at Vegapunk Torrents
Episodes 341-377 at ???????? as 'Vanillapunk' releases (no typesetting or attack FX)
Episodes 364-381+ at homeboyz-Fansubs (dead)
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
