Blizzard realized it wasn't profitable no more. They had their share.
Main reason I quit and got a refund. The AH ruined the game and the lack of a lobby system didn't help either.

Probably. They said loot 2.0 won't be released this year and will likely be released few weeks prior the release of expansion as a pre-patch.

I think this is the exact reaction they are looking for by doing this. Get all the people who jumped ship to reconsider the expansion. You bought it hook line and sinker!

Maybe so, but I wouldn't mind getting fished back if it is good.

Well, after the own company that made the game agrees the AH is shit, and spends money/time on removing it, is kinda hard to defend it, really.

But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot. With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III.
We feel that this move along with the Loot 2.0 system being developed concurrently with Reaper of Souls™ will result in a much more rewarding game experience for our players.
We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down, but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process. |

To be honest i think creating a seperate league without auction house would be the way to go. Removing the auction house alone will give even bigger force to those chinese farmers and people selling in the "black market" like it used to be in D2.
The other downside of this is the countless hours of selling and buying stuff on spam tradechats and foruns... Wich will take gameplay time..
I see people complaining they only want to play with selfound stuff..I just dont understand why complain when they can do it already if they just ignore the auction house.. this is not like the pvp is anything good or there is anything else to compete on this game.. Drops arent good enough? wait for loot 2.0 and it will be still indiferent if the auction house is there or not!

PoE and TL2 doesnt even come close to Diablo 3 feel, its just so fucking awesome go kick some monster ass in D3. Even with its nearly unplayable flaws, its still better hack&slash game than PoE or TL2.

The AH was never the problem.
The problem was weak itemization and the lack of viable non-AH play in Inferno at release for most classes. The easiest way to provide the latter, would be to have a non-AH checkbox upon character creation - with adjusted loot tables for that kind of play. Then non-AH characters could exchange items as per usual - outside the AH market.
I really liked the concept of the AH - and the prospect of not relying on endless grinding for that one specific item that will never drop. I don't particularly enjoy playing the trading game in chat channels for that purpose, but I guess that's what people prefer.
Also, I quite liked the idea of making some money on the side by selling cool items.
Oh well.

I have to agree. That solution would be good for everybody. Also it wouldn't be hard to implement... you'd have a non-AH mode with x% higher drops or something along those lines.

the problem always was and is and will be the MMO-itemization and stats in D3. Period.
Everything else comes down to personal preferences.

Most are easier than the trash before them. That's what's wrong with most of them.
And especially Diablo himself is just a fucking pussy of a boss, that one is so goddamn boring it's not even funny anymore.
It's okay though guise, Blizzard are fixing the game -with that I mean the loot- after just 2 years already, we should be so gratefruit

MMO-itemization and stats come down to personal preference as well... it's not like they're objectively broken. It's just a matter of taste.

hm, no.
MMO stats and itemization belong to a MMO.
NOT a arpg/hack n slash.
The very genre defines that. Or better, it defines the genre.
