I'm a bit confused as to how I should be reacting.
So what do you guys do if/when it happens to you?

Next time check the box where the e-mail message requires a confirmation of it being opened and then this confirmation is sent to you.

Is this possible in Gmail?
EDIT: Apparently it's possible in non personal, paid Gmail accounts.

I know some 'old school' professors who purposely click on ignore or simply ignore the warning even when they actually read the mails, just because they want students to talk to them face to face. Bastards

What i do with all my work emails.
I got my outlook set to "ignore and never send a response". So send me a mail with or without a 'read receipt' you get none back from me
Mostly because people tend to think "oh hes reading it, I better wait 4-5 minutes for a response"..when really all I'm doing is reading it, seeing if its emergency/important. if not Ill reply when I get time.
then they act all pissy because they know WHEN I read it, but didn't drop everything to take the time to reply to a mail that was low priority. |
Haha, this is a perspective that I didn't consider, but I definitely will in the future. I'm just lucky that almost nobody who I have business with really even cares about adding the return receipt, because you know how it works here in Italy, timing is the least of our daily problems and the art of delaying stuff is part of our culture xD

? Im strongly against stuff like this, indeed some people do read and ignore, but most of the times if theres no reason to do it why think they are ignoring you?
This applies to whatsapp etc, sometimes people do go in and read, but are doing something and they cant write, only read, or they are in a hurry or busy and just checked to see if its something urgent. Or just plain came in and read someone else and not all conversations.
Emails? Well this is worst since sometimes people dont check very often, if i send and email i just plain forget about it and wait, usually people respond me 1 day after and i could be asking myself "5 hours ago... why the fuck did she not reply i know shes home doing nothing" just to get an email next day.
HELL! If someone sends me a personal common email with a return receipt policy on it, i would scream "HOLY FUCKING DESPERATE NUTJOBS"
Oh people are so complicated
