Actually, kinda cool, because it would allow you to first person record what you're doing, so 3 makes much more sense than 1 Wink

the problem i see there is no depth perception and you're limited to the FOV and Quality of the camera on your phone. Which makes it kinda unsafe to S

No doubt, it's dangerous as fuck, but if you're good enough, and brave enough, you'll capture some damn cool footage on the cheap (instead of getting one of those small mounted cams)

I'm excited about OR just as much as the next guy, but the proximity of those screens to our eyes does worry be a bit. Don't want to end up like Bubbles.

That VR Case is pretty lame IMO, but w/e.

I think sitting too close to the "telly" (hue-hue) is a bit different then having a screen 1"-2" away from your face. I'm not talking about the fact that old CRTV's were emitting some radiation where all this started from. I'm talking having anything that close to your face putting a strain on your eyes. Also, the intensity of the LED's coupled with the lenses can very possibly have damaging effects.

Not enough bestiality. But hey, the future is here, he can build a 900 meter brocrodile mounting a pony in Unity3D.

First time I heard about this new controller from Sixense. I kinda felt that they had a new product coming since the original Hydra was an a major sale recently. I don't care about the feet, but the one on top of OR is a must. Kinda shitty that OR won't have positional tracking built in.

Btw. This is obviously just a prototype. The kickstarter for their new "Stem System" launches on Sep. 12th, and it looks promising.

Quote:
Advancements for the STEM System platform include much longer range, a wireless, modular form factor, and better tracking performance at all ranges. The STEM System platform will support up to five wireless motion tracking modules, or STEMs, for full position and orientation tracking of the entire body or other configurations.

In order to facilitate a robust developer community, the STEM System is designed as an open platform for creators of both software and hardware products. Developers will be free to create content with virtually no restrictions, and to embed STEMs for tracking of their own peripheral or wearable devices, such as swords or head-mounted displays. The second-generation Sixense SDK for the STEM System platform takes advantage of the new platform’s capabilities, and provides backwards compatibility with products and games powered by earlier generations of Sixense motion tracking technology, including the Razer Hydra.

It's a pretty common misconception that the Rift is bad for your eyes. In fact, the optics set your focal point at infinity which is your eyes' most comfortable resting position.

Taken from their Kickstarter: "Normally, when you take a break from using a monitor or TV, the idea is to give your eyes a chance to focus and converge on a distance plane. This is a natural position of rest for your eyes. With the Rift, your eyes are actually focused and converged in the distance at all times. It's a pretty neat optical feature, for sure."

The added bonus of this is the 3d effect feels extremely natural and more pronounced when compared to 3d in a movie theater. In the Rift things that are miles away truly feel like they're miles away. Things that are in your face really feel like they're right there (there's even a demo that gives you an elephant trunk that really feels like it's part of your face). Ask anybody who's tried it and they'll tell you the depth and scale you get from the 3d in the Rift just feels "natural" or "real". But yeah. There's definitely nothing to worry about as far as eye strain goes. It feels great. The inverse-motion sickness is the biggest factor most people will have to deal with. Which does get easier over time.
