Since these devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. As everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of our favorite chocolate treats, Kitkat®!
They claim "not a money-changing-hands kind of deal", but "Nestle plans to sell more than 50 million chocolate bars featuring the Android mascot" and now even their OS name is a fucking advertisement.

It's effective advertising for both parties, so I'm not sure why some people are against it. Google are just sticking with the same naming scheme and making use of it. Doesn't harm either of them.
I'm surprised nobody has done it before to be honest.
There used to be a few games that had sweets in them, Cool Spot had all the 7-up shit (obviously) and there was one with Chupa Chups in it (Zool ?? )

Key Lime Pie if I remember correctly but apparently they made the contract back in february. And this magically did not leak early, even though the packaging has been in production for ~2 months already.
The kitkat page looks great, really nice touch that they used the same type of display like the google kitkat history page, but the kitkat.com page looks even better

Apple still does dozens of these with iTunes and iPod, with artists. And with pretty much every talent show (singing mostly though) these days there's a "DOWNLOAD* FULL PERFORMANCES ON ITUNES - VOTES COUNT DOUBLE * download meaning buy" thing going on.
Also if you do not see a difference here, where a fucking OS name is an AD, then really sad for you. How are the other things mentioned acceptable either?
Also, I fail to see your Apple connection. iTunes is a music store and they advertise it as such. Had Apple released a product called "Apple iPod American Idol", I would agree. But let's assume Apple does it too; how exactly does Apple doing it make it any more acceptable here?

Do some people actually care what's the "name" of their Android OS past the version number? Actually, I imagine most don't know even that much...
It's an unusual choice, but as long as it's not affecting my experience as a user in a negative way, they can feel free to call the next one Lay's...
I completely agree. As long as there aren't ads for KitKat bars all over the UI (or, in fact, anywhere on the UI except for the version number/build name) then I don't really have any problem with it. I find it more amusing than anything else.
