Well, if it's the same as in previous TW games, particularly the first Rome, I understand that if you play on hardest difficulty the AI aggresively flanks you when you're entering their cities or climbing their walls, which supposedly it doesn't on normal or easy. I don't think it's too much more than that though. And I understand AI in battles has never been impressive in TW games.

Yeah the TW series has always had kind of crappy AI. Rarely do they surprise you in battle. But that is okay because the world map strategy game part of it is my favorite part and the battles look cool even if they aren't exceptionally challenging. It still makes for a fun game.

Plus I will often just do the auto-battle thing...I usually only play the real huge or important battles that contain cool units and mostly just because it is fun to watch.

Randir14 said, 'ingame AA' not 'AF'. You may have been correcting him, who knows? AA is a bitch. AF not so much on modern cards. I was not referring to your quip on AF. That's what wasn't' clear. Doesn't matter relax. Enjoy your Rome 2.

dunno how you can miss this. It clearly shows AA/AF

Reviews are pretty much what I expected

- Poor AI (to be expected for a TW type game)
- Overwhelming for newbs
- Too complex for newbs

I don't remember Shogun 2 reviews to really hang up on these notes.

Since it says in-game AA instead of 2x MSAA or similar it's probably a shader such as MLAA which only has a checkbox or on/off option. Smile

To be Fair shogun2 was possibly the most simplistic and smallest of the TW games

Shocked Wot? The introduction of "real" ressources, research and char development were one of the greatest innovation in the series IMHO. Or what exactly did you mean with "small"?

Perhaps he means in terrain size? I am not sure. I wouldn't say it was small, especially with the additions of Fall. Napoleon was much "smaller".

They forgot to block beta access so there's two options there, "ceg_test" and "day1" though since the preload updated yesterday the update should already be part of the game.

because I wasn't referring to the chart, only his quote. He misquoted, that's the point. Uh dear forget it. I'm either being too clever or your being too pedantic. Hence AA being a rendering bitch and AF not. Hence 'yes' and 'yes'. Either way this is becoming a circular argument.

yepp, even the map size wasn´t that small. It took about 15 or 20 turns to sail from one edge of the map to the other.

Looks like the game is around ~20 GB when unpacked according to Steam, it hasn't quite finished decrypting so I can't check but that's what it reports.

Well it uses something, there's a program with a little padlock icon so that's probably in addition to CEG.

Yeah I use this -> http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/19461-Windows-Hotfix-repository/page831?p=786956&viewfull=1#post786956

It uninstalls all existing ones and keeps the latest version, updated regularly too. Smile
(Unpack with Winrar or something and run x64.bat)

For Steam I delete the redist folder (I keep .Net, VC++, DirectX, LIVE and all that up to date anyways.) before starting the game so nothing is installed, I also use steam_appid.txt so I can start the exe directly. Smile

No because there are differences in API and if a software uses a specific version, it will break if the API it expects is missing. Worse, some software check DLL for specific versions, and gives up if specific DLL is not found. Microsoft

The newer versions of Visual C++ covers the older versions so they are not needed what so ever, if you used a older version with something needing a newer one you would get a "side-by-side" error message pop up however.
(You do of course need 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012 and eventually 2013 in both x86 and x64 but you do not need different versions of them together, only the latest of each.)

EDIT: Oh right, with the WxS folder structure there's of course no harm in having multiple versions installed, it just clutters things a bit but you don't get any problems or such. Smile
