They are not alternatives anyway. They do not do head tracking, you don't have any video input. Entirely different concept.

It's not hard to see that as smartphone tech advances, this is going to be a very viable option for VR. But not anytime soon. The trackers in the Rift are already a completely different beast than what's inside the next top smartphone. It runs at 1000 Hz and includes some pretty sophisticated prediction algorithms. It'll be at least four to five years before the latency in smartphone trackers get low enough to be suitable for VR. Oculus has already brought up that they're more interested in mobile development than consoles simply because they're not static. Mobile is actually following the exponential growth of technology. In five years smartphones will have long surpassed the graphical capabilities of last gen's consoles and will be awfully close, if not better, than "next-gen" consoles. Mobile games will not be Angry Birds. They will be the full fledged games that we're playing on PC's today. And that's when this idea will really take off. But for now, slapping your phone onto some goggles is not going to give you a much better experience than what we had in the 90's.

Wait, are those real?!
#3: Bombing a hill while in a VR world with absolutely no view of your real surroundings. People have a hard enough keeping their balance while standing up in VR and they're suggesting that you fucking bomb a hill on a skateboard while wearing this?! This is so weird.

That dude in #4 is probably watching porn in public. And no one would guessed that. Clever device.

To be honest, if you can barely speak English and can't be bothered to find someone who can to voice the vid, it worries me ... . The whole thing reeks of "amateurs pretending to be pro" - the shitty drawings, the use of lots of spiffy words without actually giving any proper explanation how it works, etc.

These all are bullshit and NEED to be called out on it.
If shit like this gets taken for the real deal, people WILL be disappointed and we'll have another VR crash like in the 90s.
When someone manages to single handedly resurrect a concept thought dead,I'm not surprised to see asshats circling their anus, but I'm surprised people won't pounce on them and call them on it.
Competition is good, but it needs to be real first.
My bets are on Sony coming up with something.
Palmer Luckey (Oculus founder) actually made Fov2Go a while ago, which is essentially identical to these - just a box with lenses to hold your phone in.
And released the specs and software for free so people can build it.
Just not with the marketing budget or sleek look - because it's not a usable gaming product.

I recently read of another VR headset but forgot the name.
It was supposed to be like Oculus Rift but with above 200° FOV
