I have no idea if I should play the game with hd or original.
Assets are different, effects, voice over. and so on. Sometimes for the on the good side for old and sometimes for new

yeah same here after some more checking. Seems like sd movies are the way it meant to be.
btw. Still enjoying the game. Only gripe would be that mostly everything around voice recording quality is poor. vo itself is good. just quality and mastering is baddish

This is a very weird game, after three hours spent pewpewing akrids, walking around with the mech tourist-mode while QTE-ing bosses and pushing buttons to activate epic machineries, I feel like I have accomplished nothing.
Sadly, the game is that dull. Since the old formula was apparently 'weak', Spark here tried to borrow many concepts from Dead Space, but the result is far from being good. Even if shooting is somewhat ok (only with the fixed FOV though), the uninspired level design made of "fake freedom" (limited grappling, corridors...corridors everywhere), coupled with a pace that is seriously wrong and filled with emptiness, ruin the few things that work here.
The graphics are decent, although there are many times when everything falls apart -CLICKY-.Animations are on the rough side, but tolerable; the story is nothing special really, but voice acting is decent at least.
In a nutshell for me:
+ Ok-ish graphics all things considered
+ Decent-ish shooting when there are interesting enemies/bosses around
- As linear and guided as you can get, in a very bad way (not that Lost Planet was an open game, but there was some kind of exploration and less hand-holding)
- Failed and constricted level design
- Mechs suck here, they're used for the most useless tasks and Mech vs monsters combat is surprisingly boring and riddled with QTEs
- Pretty much everything else feels generic
It's Sparks best game so far, but that's not saying much Hopefully they'll kill off the franchise after this one, I'd rather have a Dead Space 4 full-Rambo with microtransactions than another LP game like this.

In this video (old on the right, new hd on the left) not only effects are missing from original video but voice over is different !!!
In hd vidoe, young Jim is vo, and in old vidoe Old Jim.
WWWTTTFFF spark
I am not sure which videos are supposed to be in game. Why didnt they make they shit right
edit: I can confirm that 360 version uses the videos, pc version shipped in, so Missed assets for most part and old Jim voice over... not sure what voice over developer intended |
i can see here the missing effects, but it is hard to see here the voice over differeces

i just played through, around 9-10 hours (didn't check). i actually really enjoyed it, lotta qte boss fights and all that jazz yeah, enemy variety was nice. generally its always aiming for the weak spot though.
i was super skeptical cause the main character looked pretty douchey, but he was actually a pretty cool character. most games you got the shaved space marine, he was a hairy family man with a sense of humor, which was a nice change of pace.
not for all, but i did enjoy it

I'm a bit lost out here. So the FLT release is plagued with this low quality video as well?

Yep. going through the game just for a short while was pretty painful. usually I can find something that can keep me playing a game that's not so good but totally repetitive and generic gameplay made me find no other path for this game apart from the shift + delete.

DS3 was pretty good too. I liked snow part of the game in that one, which was bad according to reviews. Snow levels in ds3 looked fantastic and had indeed better effects than lp3. ds3 had way too much shooting tho. It got annoying and boring quickly, shooting for 10 hours straight.
but LP3 no soul ? It might be a bit medicore here and there but the atmosphere is very good. Story interesting (so far) and emotions between main character and his wife well done. You can see devs were trying hard with this one. Hub world, mech in/out mechanics. After all their history is bad. turning point and legendary are bad-medicore games. This is their best yet.
Well, people not loved Timeshift too and Its one of my fav games ever, so yeah - I might be looking for different things in games than other people. But yeah -stupid Crysis1 came out the same month and everyone was looking at that "open world" masterpiece. Open world my ass. Crysis1 was and is highly overrated imo... and it still dont work 60fps so it was just badly optimised and not highly demanding.
The darkness, for example is my fav game proboably and yet it only got around 7s or 8s. Gameplay fluidity and so on is not always the most important part.
The king is HL2 for me I guess. Pacing, atmosphere, story and gameplay variety are uncompromissed in that one. That is out of the top of my head and offtopic so nevermind (I need t replay it like 10th time)
I am not far enough in LP3 to judge it yet. side missions will proboably be boring and repetitive. Will prolly end up with lower score than 8.5. as for now - I have a quality time. But scores like 4/10 from eurogamer seems impossible as of yet. Even if the game got really repetitive now, the score sohuldnt be this low.
If there will be problems it might be repetiveness. Controls, graphics and audio are all fine

Good game overall, quite atmospheric and beautiful...although the story was your typical evil corporate stuff.
Spark did redeem themselves somewhat in my book.
Now on to Blacklist... |
i was just finished blacklist and started today LP3..i guess we are changing shifts
played very few minuts of the LP3, but i love it already

played very few minuts of the LP3, but i love it already | the first 3h are a pain in the ass in LP3 , there are fetch quests ... and the loading times in those arenas/maps are horrible ... but push though after he fixes the Antenna and gets a Harpoon Hook for his mech and you find the lost space ship deep in a show cavern ... then this game really picks up [every review i just quickly glance gives this game low score just for this, pricks i say PRICKS ... same was with Binary Domain another excellent game with slow painfull start ]
and try to use something different that country music in those mechs
