No, the tag and the title aren't typos.. Nintendo really has just announced a new revision of the 3DS called the 2DS. It's a huge tablet style handheld capable of playing NDS and 3DS games, only this doesn't have the 3D functionality, so while you can play 3DS games you won't get them in 3D. Aside from the size of the machine, I'd actually think this was a very good idea! Not everyone can get the full effect from the 3D mode and some even suffer headaches and migraines over it, so a 2D-3DS selling for a lower price sounds like a fantastic idea ... but Jesus... what the hell is with that form!? Couldn't they have just used the same clam-style only with a 2D screen?

Nintendo announced the 2DS today, a new entry-level handheld system. The 2DS will be available for $129.99 on October 12th (the same day as Pokemon X and Y) and features a slate-like design rather than the clamshell seen on DS and 3DS models.
The 2DS is fully compatible with all 3DS and DS games but does not include the ability to display games in 3D. It still features all the functionality of 3DS (WiFi, local multiplayer, etc.) and can be put to sleep using a slider that replicates closing the clamshell on a standard 3DS. WiFi can still be turned off, though it’s done via controls in the software rather than with a physical switch.
Imagine a standard 3DS laid all the way flat, and with the depth slider all the way down. Everything else is there in the system
Introducing the newest member of the Nintendo 3DS Family; meet the Nintendo 2DS!
It sounds like a spoof commercial, even the narrator sounds like someone you'd hear on an April Fools prank I wonder if Gateway works on this? Either way, very smart decision releasing a new 3D-less system on the same day as the new Pokemon games, now parents - who were perhaps worried about the 3D effect for children - can hop onboard and pick this up with the new Pokemon, heh.
i actually like the design. it's aimed at 7 and under. clam shell for kids that age would just prove to break easily. a firm design could stand a beating. i'll wait for the product reviews.

As opposed to two expensive-to-replace-and-easy-to-break-scratch-or-puncture screens? The clam shell may come loose after a while but it protects the screens when the system isn't in use and being tossed into bags or dropped, etc Especially if this is targeting kids under 7 who are even less careful with stuff.
ugh what a horrible design, its not foldable and its twice as thick at the top as at the bottom. i cant even imagine how horrible it must feel holding this in your hand.
I just bought my 3DS XL in the US while being on a trip, i'm tired of being raped off by EU prices, specially in France.
And now with the Gateway 3DS (for how long though ?) I can even play PAL backups anyway.
This 2DS is a joke IMHO, looks terrible, and as sabin said, without the clam-shell, it could easily break. The clam shell not only protects, but is also a nice way to put your 3DS into your Pocket.
And I doubt Gateway 3DS works on the 2DS, new 3DS XL packs are 5.1 OOB.
If you guys wanna buy a brand new 3DS XL and make sure it's on <4.5, buy one that says Copyright Nintendo 2012 on the box, and you will be assured of even 4.4 !
Honestly, for this kind of price you really are best served just buying a 3DS XL from eBay. They can go for around £110-130. If you want to buy new, then yeah; get someone to buy it from America for you
3dsxl is horrible though. the original 3ds has a much better screen and brighter colours and it doesn't feel clanky. 3dsxl feels cheap. my fiancee has a 3dsxl and i hate it. love my original 3ds though.
well if you buy a cheap 3ds on ebay from the states... set up an account based on the states.. buy eshop points online for cheap... and go all digital. that's why i did with my 3ds... all digital content.

So here I am debating whether to buy 3ds or 3dxl and gasp reviews go both away.
It's either xl because it bigger or 3ds...
the image on the 3dsxl is slightly washed out. 3ds is much crisper. but it's smaller. i prefer the original though... once you played with it, held it in our arms, slept with it and then tried out the 3dsxl it just feels cheap. a bigger screen is pretty much the only selling point.
I wonder how you're supposed to hold it without it being uncomfortable after some gaming. I'd rather pay something extra and just get the 3DS, you can get a used one for 100 bucks.
the thing is everyone says something bad about how nintendo products look and how they look uncomfortable. then they hold it and it's like wtf is this sorcery?!?
the wiiu pro controller is by far one of best controller i've held... second to dreamcast controller.
the wiiu pad isnt bad either. it just looks uncomfortable.
and knowing nintendo made products go through stressful QAs... this might surprise a lot of people by how comfortable it.
i'm going to buy it for my fiancées nephew. he's almost 2.
Introducing, the new Nintendo 2DEES! It will play the same games as the 3DEES but with lower resolution graphics! There's also good news for fans of the Wii console! The price of the 32GB Wii console is being cut by $50!
well news casters don't really know tech... they're just there to read the news. legit big ass tech gurus know their shit but they'd have to be likeable on the tv to get a show or two.
the person who wrote for her is just as retarded as the 'tech' guru presenting the news.

yup 3dsxl upscales the small image of 3ds games that are designed for the native small screen resolution... of a original 3ds
its like playing old consoles on 40" HDTVS ... some tvs can upscale ... some don't
its not crispy vs blurry ... they could upscale it properly but the output lag would have been horrible ... from 1 sec to 0.500 sec
It's a lot smaller than it looked earlier, but I still can't get over the silly wedge thickness and the lack of clam-shell as the whole thing just looks ridiculous Region exclusive colours though? Seriously? What the hell is this, Pokemon? Both America and Europe get the Blue+Black combo, but there are two additional case colours; America has Red+Black and Europe has White+Black
