Well a couple of things, for one it's not an RPGs, I'm not playing as myself, I'm playing as a lol character with their own voice and story.
For two, superfluous customization is a significant part of the game... I'd rather play dress up with a chick than a dude.
And finally it's a third person game... The point is to see your character, it's a main focal point.
Basically in a game like THIS, I don't think you can make a compelling argument that it is iffy which gender you pick, because it differs what people want from the game and how they play it. Some people want to play as 'themselves', some just want to create a fantasy character they like the look of.
Games like skyrim and fallout though, I do find it odd when guys play as female characters though.
Though one thing I think we can all agree on....
That dude at my school who always played online fps games as a female character was definitely gay as fuck

But in Skyrim and Fallout you can play the whole game in 3rd person so that kind of blows your argument there unless you think your are walking around with the bow and arrow throwing flame blasts from your hand so it shouldn't be any different then any other 3rd person game.
This game is still super buggy and the change from it being DLC to a full game isn't the cause since I don't think much was changed at Volition going from THQ to Deep Silver. So many of the bugs from SR3 that were never fixed still carry over and this has to be one of the dumbest bug fixes I have ever heard a Dev make, if you have the low or missing audio sound issues Volition is telling you to watch the 3 opening movies when you start up the game in full, if you skip them you will have the sound bug. If they know the fix, why not patch it especially since SR3 had the same problem but I guess being with a new publisher they are at least acknowledging the bug now.

1: just noticed that it got a 20 dollar price drop in nz/au (or around that)... kinda funny how preorder was 70, but BAM lol fuck you, its now 50, if only you waited a couple of days after release, sucka'z!!
2:
i fucking SWEAR im playing a different game from the rest of you... and everyone else on the planet i guess. im seeing so much praise for this game like its the best game evarrr... but honestly? not feelin it.
i ENJOY it, yes... and i do laugh at some of the scenarios.. but i just dont feel this game ever deserved to be a full game of its own right. it just feels lazy. its the same city with a couple of new textures and perma-night... its the same stores... seriously, so many of the clothing and tattos and piercings.. theyre all the same.... YES theres new gun models, and some cool new special weapons, and some new vehicles, and ok the whole 'super powers' thing, but this isnt what i was hoping for - it just feels EXACTLY like what it was supposed to be - an expansion, not a complete new experience.
also the main missions... some of them are funny, but im actually struggling to remember some of them or even what i LIKED about them... i did some digital tank shooting, and bike racing, which was ho-hum... fought my way through a plane like i did in sr3... defended a little robot thing... did a FUCKLOAD of minigames.. and stomped around in a mech for a while...
fun experience, yes, but it actually feels really hollow, insubstantial, and has that BEEN-THERE-DONE-THAT feel to me.. game is pretty much a bunch of lol-ideas stitched together on the bones of sr3.
but again, YES its fun to stomp around the shoot things, but at the end of the day, its just a full priced expansion, with very little extra to justify it over the excellent saints row 3... and BECAUSE i was expecting a full new game (as promised), im actually feeling pretty let down by how samey it is. AT LEAST give me a whole new ENTIRE wardrobe and character customisation set to play with, not pretty much the exact same stuff!!!
to clarify, NOT bitching that its the same kind of game, or plays the same, as sr3.. just saying my issue is not how it plays, but rather than its pretty much the exact same content of sr3 with a few additions and some new minigames and a handful of missions. |
Nah i'm with you. After i got through the first couple of missions, i found the experience repetitive and quite boring to be honest.

Its like that because of popular demand, its not because the devs decided to be like that. The story is the testers of Oblivion had the option to look their char in thirdperson mode in the debug environment. They liked this option so much that they told the devs to leave it as option in the final version too. The devs said it never was intended Oblivion to be played in third person but because of the testers it made it to the "street" version. So just because you can finish the whole game in 3rd person it doesn't mean the game was designed to be played like this (in this particular case).

nah i dont really think that 'blows my argument'... given that most customisation in saints row games are superfluous, its pretty clear the aim of the game is to 'pimp your character out' PURELY for visual appeal.
fallout and skyrim games have gear customisation primarily for gameplay (defence stats etc), with visual design a secondary function only really seen by the player if they OPT to, by using the third person mode.
of the two types of games, only saints row was designed to showcase your character visually, especially given that there are many cutscenes that remove you from the 'moment' and let the game 'act out' the character the developers CREATED for you to play.
not to mention the whole character thing is quite different between the saints row and skyrim/fallout... on those games you are free to define your character from the ground up - not just looks, but behavior, development - who you are, and how you interact with the world. games like saints row, you're pretty much playing a predefined character - its far FAR less 'you' and in 'your control' than your character in fallout or skyrim...
--and as loaded as it will probably be, id be surprised if anyone would argue that point, given that outside of character design, you dont really have much control in the game of your character and how they interact with the world, compared to fallout for example.
i consider these two types of games really quite different when it comes to the character, and your control of it, as you play.

Not everyone plays games to represent themselves. Otherwise I'd always be looking for a "call the police" option. Nor do I want to be the kind of guy that runs face first into a room full of heavily armed bad guys. In real life, I'd call that person a dumbass, not a badass. However, some games are fun that way so that's how I play them.
If our game characters actually represented us, we'd all be dead, in prison, or in an insane asylum by now. Or at least deserve to be. Video games, like movies or music, is just another form of entertainment. It lets you fuck around but doesn't necessarily mean you actually want to do/be that shit in real life.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be one boring ass video game character.

Bummer that it seems the patch didn't fix any of the outfit glitches going by the notes. I hope they fix the female Decker Specialist outfit's glow effect before I finish the game.

I'd be expecting them to focus on fixing crashes and game-stopping bugs before addressing inconsequential aesthetic issues.

The Farmer clothing was in the Inauguration Station demo. Supposedly there were quite a number of clothing items that appeared in the demo that are not yet in the game so I guess they held those back for easy DLC money.

Weapons work here but I had to re-purchase some of them and I got all the cutscene specific ones and some others.
(Silenced spec-ops SMG, special dubstep gun, minigun for vehicles and the mech cannon to name some interesting ones.)
I have however read that others (Like you said.) have had their weapons gone missing or not working at all including DLC ones like 'Merica.

Hmm, in the advent of sr4 i finished sr3 last week, and I had that same thing happening there, having to rebuy weapons I already bought. Looks like a bug that is still here then.
