I used to build my BMX style bikes when I was in gradeschool up till I was 14 and didn't really ride them anymore.

Well I'm tired of wasting gas driving short distances and going to go look at this bike tomorrow. Guy wants 350 for it.

Trek 4500

Get a more comfortable bike or do you live in the mountains/woods? Never got why people buy such bikes when all they do is urban cycling. But I know most of you will go with a mountainbike anyway so...

Make sure the frame is your size, I see a lot of people complaining about biking and it usually comes down to: the wrong bike or the wrong size. So how to measure your dong 'properly':
http://www.ebicycles.com/article/bicycle-frame-size-charts.html

Took the first one that came up, do mind however that's just a general chart if you have a special body type you actually need to do a fitting!

Uuuuu 4500 is my next bike (when I start making money Very Happy).

I would lower the price, since by googling you see ppl selling it for as low as $275. Try lowering it to $300. Plus it's the version without disc brakes, and it's the older model.

But it will do you well Smile

I recently bought Giant Talon 3 27.5' (2014) and i have to admit I wouldn't change it for anything else - it's superb comfortable, speedy, ready for all type of terrain. Maybe it's bec my previous bike was bought in 2002 but who knows - I enjoy every trip now riding on Talon Smile

Here's the pic:

lol found a store near me that sells Treks lower than suggested retail and they build them for you the day you buy it. (I'm used to department store bikes that come in a box)

Pictures coming in a couple hours ^__^

Weeeee Very Happy

The reason I want to buy new Trek 4500 is because it's kinda more terrain oriented than mine (3900) - especially lock out on a fork, and hydraulic discs Smile

Well I ended up not going with any of them from cragislist. Their asking prices were too high and the one guy didnt' really want to come down.

So ya, tried out the 820 at the store, loved it, bought it, he built it for me, picked it up, took it out...took a picture, rode some more and now I'm here...with my ass and my legs fucking dead lol

Bikes are absolutely HUGE where I am now. You can't go anywhere without seeing someone on a bike. They even repaved all teh streets to add a bike lane for people to safely ride in, and with Trek being made here in Madison where I live (they're about 30 minutes from me Smile ) Trek's are EVERYWHERE.

....I should have just stole one Razz

Already planning on an upgrade haha. Really just bought this one to get me motivated and back into biking. Now that I'm back in the swing when I get tax returns I'll be buying something lighter and beefier.

Been hitting up cross country trails in my area and already knocked my wheels out of true lol. After a 3 hour power run it took two of us to lift my bike at the end because we had nothing left in us.

So far it's going to be between the two 29ers I've been looking at

Trek Mamba

or the

Cannondale Trail SL4

So it's going to be between an Airborne Goblin

 Spoiler:

Or the Airborne Seeker

 Spoiler:

The ultimate decision is going to be what funds I'll have to spend in 3-4 months. I talked to a lot of people on some forums and this company is a small time company who isn't world known like Trek so they have to make it count on quality and value. Everyone I've seen that owns one, absolutely loves them.

I'm a little irritated with Trek but I guess being a big manufacture they fuck things up. The wheels they included with my bike model, that's meant to be taken on cross country can't even handle cross country unless it's pretty flat. Wheels are already knocked out of alignment from offroading.

These look expensive grinhurt Plus the gear on them is really good Smile

Well Trek is a mass producer, plus the one you have now, doesn't really seem like an off road bike. 820 is similar to mine (3900), and it's for everyday use mostly.

You'd need something like the ones you posted to go off-roading Smile

Look at all you bike plebs, honestly if there is one thing our government has done right its the easy use of bikes here.

I'm always surprised most foreigners go for mountain bikes, here most people buy normal bikes, a mountain bike isn't going to help you much in a city where thin profile tires are much better normally. Then again it probably has to do with a cool-factor to Razz

Ya, I use mine more on off-road than I do urban. When I get the new bike I'm going to throw street tires on the 820. We got some nice off-road cross country style trails here.

@dingo, goblin runs about 1200 which isn't bad for what it has

Picking this up next week Very Happy I wanted to go with Airbourne but I can't bring myself to order something that expensive without being able to at least get a feel of it, and if something goes wrong, it's hell of a headache to get the bike torn back apart and sent back to them.

Trek DS 8.3 29er in awesome puke green....I love that fucking color for some reason, it's a flat color, not glossy.

29" wheels
Shimano Alvio hardware/drivetrain
Mechanical disk brakes

Going to cost about 700 out the door. If they have that color that is, they have some more so I'll see what else they got.

I got the mechanical at an amazing price.

One local store wanted 699 for the 2014 model, and 669 ON SALE for the 2013 model.

I went to the store where I got my Trek last summer and he had the bike for 609 for the 2014 model. Owner asked me if I got to ride it yet and I'm like no lol...who's going to let me ride a 600 dollar bike around town to test ride it. He pulled it out and said "...me...". So I got to ride it around the block and the damn thing is comfortable as hell and quick as fuck. To add to this story I also had my gun on my hip. I got back and immediately said I would take it but he has to order me the green one I pictured above. So he said great, and then said because I carried a gun in his shop, if I have my carry conceal license (which I do) he would include the tax into the price of the bike.

So I saved almost 100 bucks by going back to that store, then close to 40 dollars in taxes because I have my conceal carry license <3
