Haha, but hey, I consider mine a gaming laptop too! (DualCore + Mobility Raddy HD3650 )
I mean, it can run all the games released before 2005, which are the best ones.

Oh that crap, seems it gets worse every year. Even when you tell them you can build them a rig that outperforms it for half the price: "BUT I WANZ GEAM LAPTOPZ" not even gonna type all the nonsense that follows after their purchase

You can get custom laptop which is build to a nice clevo chassis, eguipped with GTX 780M (same as desktop GTX 680) and i7 haswell for about 1500e. For same price you get some shit MSI "gaming" laptop, which has i7 and shitty GTX 660M (which is like 100% slower than 780M).

What would be the battery life on that (and besides I'd guess you'd spend most of the time with it connected to the charger at home)? Oh and I'd bet the thermals on that baby would be lulzworthy

And still more expensive than a desktop with a lot more flaws. It's better to say: a laptop that plays games rather than a gaming laptop xD

Some of you sadly missed my point.
Unless you're threatening <insert random dev here> with lawsuits because you were too stupid to read system requirements or want to run GFX intensive games with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 because you're not aware of the other GPU that's propably somewhere in there too. Among other stupid stuff ofc.

What about those of us with Q8300's and HD6850's?

Well my work computer just happens to have a Quadro 2000 (2GB, i7 820QM, 16GB RAM) in it, potent enough for some gaming But it does get hot and then it downclocks and you feel how your frames drop by 50%
But I still wonder if the downclocking is bound to the temperature or the general power intake so that the power adapter can't deliver...

So better to simply buy a better desktop computer and then put the difference on a worse laptop for surfing while traveling or whatever. I guess if you're constantly riding the train or whatever for long periods of time I could understand wanting a laptop for gaming but other than that I don't get it. |
maybe because some people get budget from work to buy laptop and dont want to spend money on a desktop which they will almost never use... maybe because it makes no sense to buy a laptop (needed for some reason) and a tablet and a phone and a desktop. First thing to go is the desktop. I cant imagine spending 1000 bucks on a desktop comp, i would use it maybe 5h a week.

I bought my Lenovo Y500 for both work and gaming, dual GT650M in SLI = almost all games on ultra or highest @1920. BF3 quite playable on Ultra, but I prefer uber smooth on High. SRIV, Blacklist etc - on highest.
And it costs less than $1k
Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube

Yeah its sweet laptop for its price if SLI is working properly, tho the screen is shit and build quality isnt the best, but nothing cant match its performance currently at the price point.
