Do you guys also have these in appdata/roaming/paradox interactive? My google-fu isn't good enough to find out anything abut it and I'm still waiting until the salary lands to purchase the game.
Oh, and when I terminate the processes that cause the weird lag the nvidia graphics driver crashes. Might even be related! /Edit
Best regards, Athair. |
I think you got yourself a virus, I have the legitimate version and none of the mentioned files. |
Ah interesting, thank you. I checked it with security essentials and malwarebytes antimalware, I'll work from that. Thanks for the input! What's odd is that it was from a "seemingly" original FLT-release.
Thanks for the verification that those files aren't supposed to be there.

What's the best way to learn everything about the game mechanics? Any good video tutorials or written guides (the latter would be better) some1 can recommend?

That will give you everything you need to know to get started, and from there you can easily search key terms in google whenever you find something you don't know yet.

And I cannot even find an option to convert my religion to Catholic to get this out of the way, even though the vast majority of my provinces are already Xtian.
Is this that bug you speak of?

Also consider this game is about stats and bonuses, so read all the tooltips.
Portugal is a nice start, ally with spain and start a trading/colonanisation game. Since you're allies with the main power in the game no one will bother you.

Go to Mali and attack them every 5th year. That should be atleast 1000 gold each time. Then on to south america. Use those insane amounts of gold on buildings making your more money. Just did that as Algeria, so England should be a piece of cake.

Started over. That ridiculous onslaught of religious zealot armies really killed the entire game. They could have been dealt with, but apparently for some arbitrary reason, Shinto countries cannot deconvert. Every army was fighting to have Japan's religion changed, but it's not allowed by the game.
Anyhow. Japan again. Now as soon as those traders show up, I'll enact the anti-Christian edict and the other one that closes the borders, disallowing any flow of ideas.
This time, I went straight for Exploration ideas, got two good settlers, a small exploration fleet and a group of 5000 conquistadors, and went out, subjugating every single island I came across in the Pacific. Objective: take Hawaii. Suck on that Yanks!
Took a long time, had to colonize everything between Honshu and Hawaii, and then make all of them core provinces to extend the colony distance.Just barely, but managed to grab Midway, and from there Hawaii was an easy step.
However, from there the continent itself is still WAAAAAY too far, so instead, I'll go through Alaska, since there is the convenient Aleutian chain of islands connecting that and Kamchatka. I just hope I can reach it with my colonization restrictions, otherwise I'll have to research more.
The mainland powers seem to be ok with me going East, they have their petty squabbles, while I conquer the entire Pacific Ocean. Ming and Manchu had me as rival for a bit, but they seem to have abandoned the idea of me having any plans of ever wanting any of their stuff.
Since I have two colonists, I'll send one to take the island chain, the other one will start settling Australia, the eastern part of it is habitable. From there, it's complete domination in the Americas.
Anyways, here's the current state of my empire. Everything inside the red line is mine, including every single island that is obtainable. The middle Part of New Guinea is uninhabitable, that's why it's uncolonized.

Played as Portugal, game went well, then a crapload of rebels and i had to restart. Need to get used to the amount of rebels in this game, probably a good idea not to conquer too much territory with a different religion at once

Religion alone should not start huge rebellions. I guess you suffered from low stability and overextension. There is a stability tab to manage this, the tooltips there will provide help.

Not sure about the details, I've just seen it mentioned a lot on their forums, japan being bugged with some catholic thing. I Love your updates !
Started as Brittany, and this time England conveniently won the war which made France an easy prey for me and Burgundy. Then France and England went into a Personal Union?! Which did not last long though. It's been crazy, war all the time, castille aragon, portugal, savoy, yes pretty much everyone constantly fighting.
Burgundy my friend, my hero, just fell and Austria took over most of their country (I've yet to see burgundy last) I couldn't do anything about it, no way to join the war on their side. Buuut Austria wanted to ally me right after so I suppose it's okay, because even though I've got 3 provinces from France, they got a huge chunk of Burgundy as the event with Austria fired. So they're kinda scary again, but they've luckily for me lost all their vassals.
Scotland which has been fighting with Burgundy for a while hates me for some reason. Even though we've been in the same war on the same side a couple of times. Now they just have two provinces left, and England got nearly all Ireland. Also 3 provinces in France. Sheeeeeeeet.
What I don't like is the constant fucking comet sighting, godamnit. And how important your ruler is. Other than that I'm starting to like the game lotssss.
The rebels mechanic seems incredibly dumb and far fetched. Rebels group x4 your force limit rising without trouble. BUT if you know how the system works, and don't go overboard with overexpansion(?) it seems to be okay. I guess it's just a feature to prevent you from doing certain things. I feel there should be a more elegant way to do that though.
I guess the technology tree also needs mentioning. I'm not sure what to think of it, if you concentrate on improving ideas, you fall behind in tech. It seems a bit odd. Yeah choices and all that, but well yeah I dunno yet.
