It may be just me but if I had my wish there'd never be a next gen. I'd be more than happy to just keep pirating 360 games and paying for the rare PS3 exclusive I want. I will eventually have to buy a next gen system just to play the new games but that's the only reason, not because I'm all excited about more power. The graphics this gen are fine.

graphics are very dated now. |
They look fine to me I would be fine with them for the rest of my life honestly, you can't tell me games like Last of Us don't look incredible. People get too spoiled need something new all the time. I care more about gameplay than graphics.

Then you'll think next gen looks incredible for awhile then you'll think it looks dated. I still play games from NES to current gen. Graphics are probably 8th on the important list of a game. That said Last of Us does look incredible and it's sad that many like you buy into the graphic hype that any game doesn't look good enough because the future will always look better. Gameplay should be way more important to any gamer than just graphics.

i often laugh at idiots who say imagine mario on a ps4 or xbox one :drool:
It'll look exactly the same as it would on a nintendo console... but for some reason they think that once a game is on a next gen hardware with all the bells and whistles it'll automatically look better.
Style makes a game. Graphics just bring the style into fruition. Then again you could play ps4 on a old SD tv and 99% of the hardcore console crowd will say it looks like a psx game.

I agree partially. While imo we are at a point where games just still look good there is still desperate need for improvement in some areas. I mean when the PS2 era ended games looked really bad, same for ps1, but this generation everything still looks kinda satisfying and there are still moments where you think, wow this looks really nice.
HOWEVER aliasing and bad textures are two things that can really take you out of an experience. I mean if you look at a poster and you can barely read it, that sucks. And if every edge is flickering that's irritating too. I hope the "no jaggies" age is finally upon us  I don't need more polys or self shadowing of every rock in a game, that won't enhance my experience, I just want to loose the ugly stuff please
And of course more power doesn't only give you graphics it also makes new experiences like last of us possible. Imagine Lou on a PS2, that couldn't have been the same game with the same emotional impact, and I hope the next generation will allow for those new experiences not imaginable on previous hardware. I agree that right now there isn't much anounced in terms of that. Dead Rising is just prettier with more Zombies on screen, Killzone is just a prettier decent shooter, but I hope those new experiences will come 2014 and 2015, my most awaited game right now is quantum break, even though we don't know a lot about it, it seems to really be doing something new...

The mod's have allowed the comment he made to stand as apparently he's in a good position as a very large retailer..
