the 6600GT 128MB Card should last a year or so for playing the latest games shouldnt it?? or would I be best going for a 6800 256MB ?? (Just a Normal 6800)

I want to know if it will give me a good year or game playing first as I dont want to waste £120 on a card that will be no good after a month or 2 Smile

Yeah I got a Gigabyte one a month ago... v. nice card.. overclockable too... as long as you have a fairly beefy system ( no bottle necks ) you should be fine! Smile

How about an MSI 6800GT 256MB, significantly more powerful than a 6600GT or 6800. Costs €200 in Holland (http://www.azerty.nl/default.jsp?pid=307), about £135.

The card is the bottleneck, I would consider going for a 6800GT as the 6600 is on the same level as the 9800 performance wise (isn't it?).

X800 isnt a huge improvement on the 9800 XT, I still don't think the card will last a year, but thats just my opinion Smile! The 6600 is a good card, Im just not convinced..

well with a similar setup to the one I will have and everything on highest settings with 4x AA and 8 x AF, DOOM 3 will run at 43fps area on it which is good enough for me Smile

I have Leadtek 6600GT (OCed 560Mhz, 1060Mz) and I'm happy with it (for now). With AA and AF off i can max almost all the games. Still, like [sYn] says, the card will not last too long anymore.. You will not be able to play F.E.A.R. and most of the upcoming games on highest settings even with AA and AF off.. Sad but true, I'd recomend 6800 based card, even the basic one (or even LE which you could overclock and unlock pipeline and texture units and almost get a GT card Very Happy )

My opinion is only based on my own benchmarks comparing a 9800XT to a X800XT and then both cards to my new 6800GT Smile! Hope you don't take my comments as anything but me trying to help Smile!

How do the benchmarks online look between the 6600 and 6800?

6800GT gets around 1000 more marks than the 6600GT, but the 6600GT gets 1000 more marks than the 6800 256mb (normal one)

6800GT is just too much for me, £200 - £300 Sad

You can pick up 6800GT's for about £150 try looking for b stock stuff (things that have been bought, sent back and found to not have any faults). I got mine for £180 as I wanted a specific type of card (XFX 6800GT 256Mb) and its awsome Smile, they did go for cheaper though. FYI, these are AGP cards, the PCI-E cards are much cheaper!

Price is good, but if it had a problem when it arrived, it would be annoying trying to send it back etc... Thats if it even arrives Razz... I have herd stories of people ordereing £200 - £1,000 or stuff and not receive it but after sending 14 emails to them they just said that they had already received the items (When they haddent)

best place I think is Novatech... Just ordered a Thermaltake Soprano case from them and it said estimated delivery date Monday 26th sept or Pay another £5 for Express delivery (delivered by Wed 21st Sept). I decieded to just stick with normal delivery (26th Sept) BUT it arrived TODAY (21st Sept) Smile

Hahaha, yeah, I ordered my Xaser 5 from them and it was a no show. I did however get a good response once I told them who I worked for.. Smile! So a very understandable choice. I went with them for my GFX card as I felt the lower cost was worth the risk, and it did pay off.

I'm really looking forward to thermaltakes Tai-Chi case Smile! Built in water cooling Very HappyVery Happy!! But I can't find anywhere that sells it yet Sad!

All you guys are posting in pounds, seems small to you. That case is about $100CDN for me. I paid $120 CDN for mine, which came with 6 case fans, and a 420watt power supply.

I also bought my 6600GT by BFG that is already OC'd for $200 CDN, which is about £95.

I'd just like to point out that in your comment, as funny as that comment may seem.. they import heavily from Canada and Mexico.. which are ajoining nations and are not overseas. I like a dumb comment by him anytime of the day, but that just doesn't make sense to me.

Also, SUX TO BE YOU Razz

Yeah we do get a bit of a hard time [rice wise, but it is cheaper than some other places, Ireland (Euro) seem to have it much worse.. Maybe we should start a NForce import partnership Wink

How about an MSI 6800GT 256MB, significantly more powerful than a 6600GT or 6800. Costs €200 in Holland (http://www.azerty.nl/default.jsp?pid=307), about £135.
