This will be offtopic, but it has been digging at me for a few months. I recently recalled scenes of a game in a way similar to this. A old game. It isn't turn based as far as i know, but the control scheme and view angle was more or less the same. I had a group of people i controlled in an alien infested city. Too bad i can't upload photos from memory Laughing

I'm going with a wild guess here Very Happy

Gorky 17, (released as Odium in North America) is a turn-based tactics computer game developed by Polish developer Metropolis Software and published by Monolith Productions for Windows in 1999.

Gorky 17 sounds really familiar, but i can't recall the game to be turn based. It might be this game, as i said it was a really long time ago and memories can twist themselves with time. I just think to remember alien infested crap on the ground and stuff. If possible i will download gorky 17 and try it out. Chances are it won't work with windows 7 though Razz

GOG version works fine on Windows 7.

I guess i've just heard about that game. It wasn't it. I don't recall that game i remember to be particularly dark either. Run and gunish isometric style with aliens. Damn, might be some super unknown game Razz

Is the editor out for this yet?

I can't say I am terribly interested in the official campaign, but I like Shadowrun. I wouldn't mind scratching something up for it, or maybe re-making some existing modules.

Worst game ever:

1. Save system...no explanation needed
2.clunky animations and fugly gfx
3. Bland copypaste fight system
4.loot? omfg loot? it s supposed to be an rpg omfg
5.walls of textif any other game would do it it would get flamed but ofc this is:Retro/oldschool

Major complaint:
6.Oldschool/Retro

Any time the game uses something outdated (like no voice over/gfx etc) it s shoved down your neck like the developers 9inch long source code phallus while they give you a double thumbs up and scream “YOU LOVED THAT IN THE PREVIOUS SHADOWRUN RIGHT?! NOW WE DID IT IN THIS GAME!!!” Because it s soooo retroooo and the devs are huuuggggee shadowrun fans rite?

Maybe they should make the next game black and white and while at it drop mouse support cos it seems people like to get screwed over by kickstarter

Nobody cares about "walls of text, omg, too hard to read for my 1s attention span" because most of the people this game appeals to grew up with cRPGs that had walls of text rather than $100m spent on voice actors. If anything, at least the lack of VA will be a huge benefit to custom Runs/campaigns from the modding community, as everyone can WRITE but not everyone can ACT. Most "community" voice acting is goddamn terrible Laughing How often have you downloaded a FO/NWN mod that added enormous quests, tons of areas to explore, lots of new lore and exposition.... that didn't come with VA? How jarring was it to go from official VA to silence and text? Or, on the other foot, how about downloading a mod with awful VA from bored people the modder had just grabbed from his family or friends?

Would I like some VA? Sure, if it was good! It would be nice to have some talented VA covering the game's massive amount of text, but that costs money.. a lot of money.. an extreme amount of money. If you skimp on that, you get shitty VA that sound bored or wrong for the part and that can ruin the whole atmosphere of the game. I'd rather a well-written story in text read inside my own mind, than a well-written story in text read by some intern with inflection issues.

I guess you won't be playing Wasteland 2 either? (OMG! WORST GAME EVER!) or Numeria? (OMG WORST GAME EVER!) or Grim Dawn? (OMG! WORTH GAME EVER!)

You mean, one of the devs is the CREATOR of Shadowrun? Yeah.

Christ, the game has issues but get some bloody perspective for crying out loud, rather than acting like this game just silently raped your mother.

Haha, at the risk of drawing ire from everyone in the group; keep the key Razz Or, hell, at the VERY least grab a DRM-free copy from somewhere and try it first. The game has issues but it's still very good and very enjoyable, especially if you're a Shadowrun fan. The atmosphere, the audio, the lore, the writing, it all drips Shadowrun and it's excellently put together -- it's just a shame the combat is basic (think XCOM EU) and, in the base campaign, there's VERY little interactivity and sidequesting. It seems like the devs put all their effort into creating a good story with great audio and then tacked that onto a more-than-capable Game Editor, something that will be used by others to make better games with.

There are already two small community Runs that show a great deal of promise, already packing dozens of sidequests and lots more interactivity.

The editor is built into the game itself, so just grab a "copy" of the game and you can use the editor. Since you won't have Steam access, you won't be able to export to the Workshop - but I guess that's just a benefit to everyone else, especially those without Workshop access such as DRM-free users.

Haha, thanks for the input mate - I think I will do just that and see if I like it enough to keep around

Just backed it on a whim really, since I remembered reading a little about the setting back in the day and heard a lot of good things about it (spent my time playing Cyberpunk2020, V:tM, D&D, LARP'ing etc instead ^_^)

Yes, as far as I'm aware you simply need to download the CPZ files (the SRR content) and add to;

X:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Harebrained Schemes\Shadowrun Returns\ContentPacks

For Steam users, the "subscribed" addon CPZ goes into;

X:\Steam\userdata\YOUR ACCOUNT\234650\local\ugc\CONTENT RANDOM NUMBER\ContentPacks

~edit~

A fanboy? Check back a few pages, sonny, you'll see I was one of the only truly negative voices here. I wrote a litany of complaints about missing features, missing functionality, etcetera. Nothing I've said can be possibly construed as being of a "fanboy" nature. I love SHADOWRUN as an IP, it has nothing to do with HBS or anything.

As for the whole "I was trolling" - yeah, no shit Einstein. Just another pointless troll in a long line of pointless trolls. That's what I don't get about this place, so many people constantly trolling all the time - don't you get bored?

To me voice acting is a acceptable cost if it means more thorough and well written dialogue, I'm not very far into the game so I can't really judge that yet but I like it so far.

Having both would of course be ideal but I'd take the writing over the voice acting. Smile
(Costs for actors and equipment isn't cheap either I'd imagine.)

EDIT: The loot is a bummer though, being able to take everything (The corpse included.) would have been sweet.
(Stripping down the cyber stuff in the bodies and selling the organs and such as the game hints at near the start when you are in the morgue.)
