Bet they'll lower the difficulty too, for the masses. I remember Homeworld 2 being pretty damned tough.

HW2 was tough in the beginning (the 10th mission iirc), where you were surrounded by 10 battlecrousers, 3 carriers, several destroyers etc. But then they patched that thing out, and it was manageable Very Happy

Still, I remember my dad used to play HW (HW1, Cataclysm and HW2) like crazy Smile It still is one of the best games I remember playing Smile

So if they make better graphics, but leave other things as they are, then that's fine by me Smile

Not sure if posted yet.. but this is what the gearbox fella who was behind most of it is saying:

We are going to upgrade all the ships, make it look amazing for current-gen. At this point it needs a fresh coat of paint."

(On hold now due to this being announced.)

Textures alone make a pretty good difference already, if they add some fancy DirectX (Or what they are using.) effects and update the 3D models it could look pretty fantastic and hopefully retain most of the gameplay the way the (original) fans want it but what would I know. Razz

Of course if the focus is on consoles and next-gen consoles it might turn out differently but so far things remain quite positive. Smile

Too bad Gearderps are doing the remake. We've seen what their last couple of efforts have been like.

Knowing Gearbox and their inner laziness, they will probably just steal this mod and use it without the creators' consent. Then they'll add bloom, some cheap motion blur effect, achievements and that's it, HD version (20€ at least) ready to deploy! Devil Troll

Homeworld 1 HD and Classic are separate purchases from Homeworld 2 HD and Classic. $15 each as far as I've read.
HW1 and 2 backups weren't there so Gearbox had to contact many different parties to get the source files.
Gearbox got Paul Ruskay on board to remake the audio. GB didn't get any source files from the auction, so Ruskay re-visited his old work, Studio-X provided all the .dat sound files
Full commercial release of Homeworld 1 & 2 music.
Cinematics are being completely redrawn
They're selling merchandise in some form or another (e.g. upscaled concept art and clothes)

Dependent on demand, GB will look into

Artbook of Homeworld being in the works
Collectors' Edition physical release with soundtrack, artbook, stuff like that

^ Gearbox' survey about Homeworld HD. They ask what people want the collector's edition to have etc.

This, sadly Sad If it was an actual remake with love and care and effort, it would be awesome, but we all know they're simply going to ship the older titles with "high resolution", slap some cheevos into it and be done Sad Still, at least they haven't turned it into an FPS or TPS, that's something to be happy about Very Happy

You know...they had it as an option in their survey. Since it's such a popular shit among the #yolo generation, it is 99% certain that we'll see it happen. And we can call ourselves lucky if Gearbox does anything else with the name, let alone something even remotely as good as the original 3 games.

Most likely we'll see the HD remakes that will lack the magic the originals had, a MOBA game, maybe a Facebook spin-off, one half-assed attempt at a AAA-budget reboot (not a sequel, reboot), and the franchise will fall back into obscurity.

"So we invested a lot to remaster the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2. We'll be releasing them on digital platforms in fully remastered — not just ported to work, but fully remastered. If you have a new crazy-ass Nvidia 780TI or an Nvidia Titan and you happen to have one of those $3,000 4K monitors, you're going to see an unbelievable image," Pitchford said.

"We went nuts in the high-definition treatment on this," he added. "It's really UHD, not just HD. That's too low. We got with the original audio guys and remastered all the audio. It's really impressive."

Yeah, if I had any interest in the CE I would have done the same. A 12" USB light up model seems, and sounds, tacky - whereas a 6" diecast one can be stylish Smile
