This is a very black and white subject, people that smoke rage as hell for not being able to smoke at restaurants and bars. While non smokers (like me) think that the more restrictions the better!

It is of course a totally unrealistic scenario, because if one country did a ban there would just be a whole lot more smuggling. Smokers will smoke Wink

Non smoker and voted no.

Alcohol causes as much if not more shit every day worldwide and it's barely as restricted or taken as seriously as smoking is nowadays.

No, please don't tell me what I can or can't do.
I accept and understand the restrictions in bars/restaurantes etc. but please go fuck yourself if you 'd want to ban smoking altogether.
If anything, legalize weed.

Ohh and another thing, sugar causes people to get fat and diabetes....let's ban that as well. Cool Face

This. I'm an ex-smoker but I wouldn't vote for it to be globally banned, I'd vote for alcohol to be banned though, it's far more damaging.

My friend has this exact same attitude with smoking. Before it was banned from restaurants here in the UK he'd give zero fucks about people who were eating or about to eat. 'Don't tell me where i can and can't smoke they can fuck off if they don't like it.

As a smoker i never smoked where it would affect others, even in the street. Simple courtesy and thinking about how things you do affect others. It's nothing to do with smokers, it's just people who don't give a fuck.

Sorry Prefetian didn't mean to imply you are like this, just your statemnt reminded me of my friend

@tonizito Yes, alcohol is a big problem. Norway and Sweden seems to be the only countries (in europe at least) that care about it. No alcohol advertisements, inaccessibility (alcohol above 3.5% SWE, 4.7% NOR are sold at special government owned stores and no Sunday sales) and no free tastes etc. in other words VERY strict. In some sense I get it now... but I still love to go to Denmark and find vodka to 57 DKK and beer to 2.5 DKK at ALDI Wink

BUT 2nd hand smoking will hurt as as much (or as little) no matter what. Alcohol is different... certain people just shouldn't drink.

To be completely honest, this is my opinion on the "second-hand smoke kills!" stance;

http://www.davehitt.com/2004/name_three.html

Whereas alcohol and alcohol-related incidents kill far more people every year Sad

I would like to see smoking banned to all people under a certain age and special ID cards that are needed to buy tobacco but you are limited to how much you can buy per week. Then a complete ban once there are no more smokers left. So not disallowing people who already smoke to buy tobacco, but not allowing younger people to.

Edit: I am a smoker btw

Non smoker, vote no. Regulate the hell out of it, but banning will not acomplish a single thing. Prohibition and drug wars anyone? People will want it, people will get it, but a complete ban will only benefit the black market and nobody else. Selling it with heavy taxation and educating people about it does less harm than leaving distribution in the hands of criminals.

Yeah and then they have the cheek to say that smokers are costing the NHS too much money.

Yeah, some smokers can die from cancer that's it. Alcohol on the other hand, i can't begin to imagine how many different scenarios arise from drinking! I'd like to see the figures on the NHS cost of drinking related cases.

WTF are you talking about? It is banned for people under a certain age, its called age limit. And why is smoking worse for younger people? And the reason why a lot of young people smoke are their parents...

I don't care about people smoking as long as they do it at places where I DON'T have to smell the toxic shit they blow out of them.

Yes, yes I'm back.

When I said "I would like to see smoking banned to all people under a certain age" I meant forever. They would never legally be allowed to smoke.

Whoa, if asked 10 years ago the yes/no ratio and replies would have been entirely different
All those little steps undertaken in the past are gradually eroding opposition and changing public perception of smoking.
At that rate first windows of opportunity may arise around 2020-2025. I guess Singapore, Ireland, New Zealand would be some of the first to try a complete ban - and (mostly) succeed.
Personally I'm against that kind of nannying.

Same in the UK too, people hit the fucking roof when the smoking bans were announced for public places like shopping centres, restaurants and - worse - pubs. They banned smoking in PUBS for fuck's sake, which unfortunately meant the end of a great many pubs. So many shut down after that Sad
