The article is absolute meh. Not that I'm saying this is Denuvo related, I'm pretty sure it's their ancient engine. Prey didn't have these issues because it wasn't made on their proprietary engine.
I find it hard to watch this guy after he went full cry baby mode because he didn't get a free copy of Cyberpunk to review and had to use his own money.
i watch his reviews from time to time, i think he provides a very human look at games. he's terrible at gaming but actually enjoys it unlike more serious reviewers. i think he pretty much nailed the review of deathloop if nothing else.
He's a bit of a dick, but I find myself agreeing with most of his conclusions actually. A lot of his criticism goes into how modern games have almost all dumbed down, console-like gameplay, which is not wrong
(he was completely wrong in his review of The Witcher 3, though, focusing entirely on its weakest point, the combat)

I still prefer to spend my YT gaming time with some of his videos than watching shills like ACG (the quintessence of shilling and master-level influencer), LevelDerp, Jackboy, SkillUp (sadly) etc. etc.
But he's no better than those guys, just because he complains about AAA companies. He's a beggar for attention who has very little technical knowledge, no artistic sense and likes to spew uninformed stuff. If anything, he's at the opposite extreme, an extreme nonetheless.

Anyways, back to the actual game. I've sunk a few hours in and I'm completely unmotivated to try it again. Very repetitive and not particularly enjoyable. I may give it one more hour and then sell that shit.

If I'd have to choose between channels of shills and channels with mediocre reviews that mention bad practices, I'd rather not choose at all.
Look at this drop in quality for a minimum fps gain which doesn't translate into a stable performance.
FSR is pretty much just an advanced scaler.. not as good as DLSS, sure, but it also doesn't need training, which is probably why it got included and DLSS did not. (edit: dlss 2 doesn't need training, so no idea what the excuse here is )

All I was saying is that grey is a wonderful thing. Just pick things around you that suit your needs / views. As an example: I don't like ShillUP anymore, and I mostly avoid his content, but I STILL appreciate very much his Metro Exodus video review + a few others. And there's a chance, at some point, he'll drop another content that I might like. That don't mean that I hate / love his videos (or stop completely following his content).
On a side note, I appreciate you didn't get triggered. Because there was no bad intent there, anyway.
Shillup can make good reviews, but he's a sellout nowadays (who enjoys his own voice way too much) and his knowledge of the technical aspects is very limited. I used to like The Game Slashers, but they hardly do reviews anymore.
Just like the old days then ) They were always laser console focused. Back in 2007, they awarded best graphics to Call of Duty, instead of Crysis because aparently they could not get the game to run well. They were using the "we spent a week upgrading, thousands of dollars, etc. and we still could not get the game up and running well".
And they did some mental gymnastics saying that when playing Crysis in lower details, its not the revolution it was promised.
It's mind numbing. If ... you play the game ... with lowered settings ... it doesnt look as good as with higher settings ... Therefore, the best graphics goes to COD.
The AI is absolutely braindead. Having recently finished Dishonored 2 after a couple of years the difference is jarring.
The performance is weird - it's still above 110 FPS for me (144hz monitor, 1440p, GeForce 3070, i7-8770 K, 16GB RAM) using the recommended settings by Digital Foundry, but it still stutters and it makes the FPS seem lower than it really is.
The thing that is absolutely amazing in this game is VO work, especially for Colt and Julianna. The music is also OK.
But the gameplay itself? Sure, when you're still figuring stuff out and there's some air of mystery, you're collecting notes and everything - it's decent. I still prefer Dishonored 1/2 though. When you collect trinkets for the first time and it grants you something you know you can use (like Steel Lungs allowing you to breathe gas without losing HP), when you barely have enough residduum to infuse things - the game is good.
But the gun I found basically in the first 3 hours

is the gun I used in the following 20 hours when I finished the game. After finding the optimal loudout of the trinkets I sold everything I collected, so I had >50k residuum after some runs. I honestly don't know the need to use trinkets like increased HP or Power, since the latter recharges superfast, and there's health vials all over the place so HP is not needed either. The weapon trinkets are mostly useless as well, since the gun I mentioned (and honestly - most guns) kills everyone with 1 hit to the head - always (apart from Visionaries). Why would I waste one slot of character trinket with "do more damage from behind", when I can kill 5 people within 3 seconds with headshots.
And the fact that there is only one "proper" way to kill each one of the visionaries in a day is disappointing as well.
Overall, it's meh. Watch the full playthrough on YT to admire the voice acting and play some music tracks. It's a massive disappointment for me, even though I enjoyed playing it.
