Anything above the CECHG and they're basically built on lower fabrication sizes, the wafers drop from being 90nm to 60nm and that helps with heat output enormously. If you've already GOT a PS3, then paying $50 to downgrade is the better choice, but if you're in the market looking for one; a 3.55 CECHG+ for $120 is great.

Yeah, i agree it is a really steep price to pay. Though, in this country it will be near impossible to find someone to fix it for any less :/

Well there was one guy offering to fix for 500kr (if it couldn't be fixed, then he'd charge 100kr for the "work") but, again, 140+140 for shipping, still puts it at 780. Sigh.

I paid a shitload of money for fixing both my xbox and ps3 from the lights of death.
Worked for a very little time. I don't recommend it.

SO, it appears it is good time to buy used PS3 3.55 since PS4 is coming out. Some questions.
1)Are all 3.55 system softwares CECHG+? Or are there different versions of 3.55?
2) Someone is selling 4.21 fat and said I can downgrade it to 3.55? Is that true?
3)Does it matter if its fat or slim - appears it does not..

todd, I did quite a bit of research about jailbreaking the ps3. Was going to downgrade mine to 3.55 but opted not to do it...screw it...no time or money for it right now.
to answer some of your questions... sab, correct me if I'm wrong here...
1.) Actually not sure on this one....
2.) you can downgrade to 3.55 with an e3 flasher, you need to open up your ps3 and do some soldering I believe. If you do the downgrade there will be extra steps and precautions you have to take when jailbreaking as to not brick your console. Need QA toggle and before installing cfw you will need to dehash.
3.) fat and slim ps3's are able to be jailbroken, however if it is a 3000 model slim you will not be able to.
hope that helps.

No no, CECHG and above are just redesigns of the phat PS3, using 60nm rather than 90nm. You can find 3.55 releases on most any of the phat models - just be prepared to pay for it, they're at a premium now due to their rarity and because of the hassle required to downgrade. Some systems also allow you to use a clip-on nonsolder downgrader - though you'll have to speak to someone like cyclone about that.

If you can get a CFW Slim, that's the best option. So if you're going CL scouring, I recommend search for either a PS3 Slim CFW (or 3.55) first and then a PS3 Phat CECHG+ CFW (or 3.55) after that.

I just googled if it was possible and found a lot of links and info, but wanted to check here to see if what I am finding about unbanning a PS3 are legit?

Yes, they're legit but not guaranteed to last. All you're basically doing is switching your banned hardware ID for a legitimate unbanned one. Kinda like the Keyvault stuff for RGH/JTAG. I also don't recommend it purely for morality reasons, the unbanned ID has to come from somewhere - and that could just as easily be some other poor sucker's machine.

It's not convenient, it really is just a coincidence. Both systems use cheap solder to hold the chips to the board and compounding that is they also both use cheap TIM. Both being on a 90nm process too, chips get hot, TIM doesn't adequately conduct the heat into the heatsinks, chips get hotter, surrounding solder starts to crack and loosen, chips come free of the board; YLoD/RRoD/E74, etcetera.
The very best thing you can do if you have a Phat or a Zephyr/Opus/Falcon/etc, is to PREEMPTIVELY take it apart before you get a heat error and replace the shitty TIM with quality. Or simply get a 65nm/45nm system instead, later ones with better TIM, better airflow, lower heat output.

Sabin ->I bought a used PS3 because it had 65nm. It turns out it's not 100% ylod-free. I have cechg03 which has 65nm but it is reported online to get ylods quite frequently too.
my logic says it's quite convenient because it probably boosted the sales of xbox/ps3 slims as people wanted to have a console again (like me) and wanted it to be light-of-death-proof.

None of the Phats are 100% YLoD free, anyone claiming otherwise is sincerely deluded The CECHG is a lot more stable than the CECHA through CECHC though - and there's absolutely no comparison between *any* Phat and the three launch models of 360. My CECHC is a PAL launch model, only made for 6-8 months during the first year of launch in 2006 and has lasted until 2013 where it died -- and it was already preowned when I bought it. So the machine lasted through whatever paces the previous owner put it through......................... and then lasted three years of extensive Sabin Use® However, the Slims aren't 100% YLoD free either. Like I said, it all comes down to using cheap solder and cheap TIM with inadequate cooling. Preempt the damage, replace the TIM, live happy. I fucked up by not replacing the TIM myself, I knew I should have but worried about causing damage myself, so I never bothered. I paid that price
Still, PS3 Phats are bombproof compared to 360 Phats.
bloodian wrote: | That problem doesnt exist with slims but they're more expensive and it's hard to find one with 3.55. |
Yes, it really does.. Cheap lead-free solder, cheap TIM, warm>cool>warm cycles crack the solder and loosen the chip from the board.

Yes, 3.55 or lower. Some recommend updating to 3.55 first but that's REALLY not necessary, you can just as easily go from 3.40 to 4.41 CFW. I would personally recommend Rebug since the team are consistent with quality checking and not putting out untested firmware.

There's no way to prevent yourself from getting banned, nobody knows the exact checks Sony does so even if you spoof the IDs of MultiMAN/homebrew and don't play prereleased games, etcetera, there could always be something left over. Luckily Sony doesn't really seem to care lately and very few legitimate bans have been proven just from CFW use.
As for MultiMAN, agreed. Dean has put a ludicrous amount of time and energy and work into that - and I recommend donating if you get the chance, since so few people do.

Ok... the console is just broken.. fucking country, everyone tries to fuck you over.
It turns off as it gets hot.
yellow flash, three beeps, red flashing.
Now... I need to downgrade back to ofw 3.55 from rebug 4.41, so the guy has no reason to tell me that I did it.
how does one do that the easiest way ?
I'm studying IT, have experience with playing with consoles but i'm still confused
+ i don't want to brick it.
Do you know anything about it Sabin ?

http://www.dashhacks.com/ps3/ps3-custom-firmware/rogeros-at-it-again-downgrader-pup-for-any-cfw-to-355.html
Follow the instructions to downgrade to 3.55, then - just to be absolutely sure - install 3.55 OFW over the top. There's plenty of other guides online, simply type "downgrade CFW to OFW" in Google and you'll find them. Once you're back on 3.55, take the machine and ram it down the seller's throat, because there's no way he just coincidentally sold you a machine that coincidentally dies a few days later. That's Sabin levels of bad luck there, and since you ain't Sabin, I'm calling foul play and shenanigans.
