Oh oh. There goes their "new IP", they were developing for years.

Quote:
Hitman: Absolution developer IO Interactive has announced cuts totaling nearly half of its current staff, as the studio refocuses on the Hitman series. A Square Enix Europe spokesperson told GamesIndustry International that all other projects in development at IO have been canceled to begin work on another Hitman title. Production director Hannes Seifert has also been named as the new studio head.

So, all of their eggs are now laying in the Hitman basket, eh?
I wonder what direction the series will take now... Philosopheraptor

Maybe they'll focus on making a real Hitman game this time.

That will teach them a lesson for releasing the last Hitman game.

So if the next (Hitman) game tanks or fails or what to call it they might be in trouble?
(Well it sounds like they already are in trouble.)

When the next Hitman fails to make the 10 million sales Square will want from it and they close IO completely, maybe someone else can take over the franchise and take it back to its roots (highly unlikely though).

No I think it's a guarantee they'll derp it further. That coupled with Square's unreasonable expectations pretty much lock it in for failure, at least as far as the suits are concerned.

It's a win-win situation now, at least for us. If they release a great game, that's perfect for everyone, if they don't then they're gonna get shut down and not release any other shitty games.

Given we are talking about SE here, I'm pretty sure at least half of the decisions made came from IO themselves.

no. open world. that's where next gen is heading. for some reason open world games were too few in the last gen, now every game coming out is pretty much open world. Laughing

Pretty much this, with Square being insatiable ("the game needs to sell 10 millions copies, at least!"), huge streamlinization is guaranteed. I'm not expecting anything good from that franchise, not anymore. They stabbed Agent 47 in the back. Sad

But they can still make a reboot! *derpaderp Very Happy*

Exactly, the problem isn't IO who are a fine developer. The problem is Square Enix and their outwordly expectations Razz
