multiplayer is pretty much the same madness as it was in the first... well as pretty much every racing game...

This video is EXACTLY why I don't play any racing games anymore. These cars, these roads, a blind guy can finish this track

Very Happy It's inevitable when the community is made of low-skilled people who don't know anything about driving, and unfortunately when it comes to arcade games like Grid they're the majority.

Things are immensely different if you launch yourself into the 'hardcore' world (GTR2/Evo, rFactor1&2 etc.), there you'll find a much more mature community and proper challenge without frustrating kamikazes, but it's definitely not for everyone. Razz

I dislike simulation games (especially racing games on a track). Nothing beats the good old days of NFS: Porsche 2000.

Yeah NFS Porsche was great. Even NFS2SE or NFS3 were fun. I really liked those games. Question is if I'd enjoy it as much nowadays. On the other hand I enjoyed some of the recent arcade games as well...like Dirt 2, as well as crazy Split Second, so there's a good chance I'd still have fun with NFS if they made it like early games in the series.

NFS2SE and NFS3 were great (NFS2SE was better than 3 though). I quite liked the original Underground game too.
What I think these games had that the current games don't have:
- proper car handling (and mostly different handling, in most new games all cars feel like a piece of paper Sad ).
- not too wide roads (I mean, seriously roads THIS wide in GRID 2?), this makes a racing game way too easy.
- required some skill to get great laps, you could easily crash or take a bend the wrong way and end up with a bad time.

All racing games lately can be finished by a blind guy for real, it's basically just a straight road with here and there a small bend Sad

The only racing game I really enjoyed playing from probably the last 5 years: Gas Guzzlers.

And to fix people bumping into each other: very simple solution to give the host the ability to let cars go through each other rather than crash into each other. I don't give a fuck if it's realistic or not, in real life you wouldn't crash into other cars either.

1. There is "no collision" in Multiplayer. You can filter those games in the MP-Menü.

2. Dont EVER play NFS 2 or 3 or you will be suprised how BAD the drivingphysics were at these days (i did it and... )

3. GRID2 has those narrow roads too. But not on every track. But most tracks in Italy and france are not as wide and some are very narrow.

4. propper cardhandling. Thats a thing... Most Wanted 2012 had a good car handling (for an arcade game with drift mechanics). But the game itself was not as good.
Same goes for NFS HP 2010... ony the drift mechanics were extreme (but was fun).

This is something i really really like about the criterion games. They are very arcade BUT the main physics behind the game is right. You can test it if you drive slowly or backwards. The car will behave like in real (but only with much less weight).

If you do this test in GRID/GRID2 or Underground/Undercover then you will see, that those games will fail at this test. In those games the cars behave absolutly wrong if you drive slow or backwards... its like they are steering with the back of the car and not with the front tyres Wink

But back to topic Wink

TDU 2 anyone ?
We had to wait for some updates until we could finally turn Voice Chat OFF.

You can set the voice chat to

"All"
"Friends"
"Nobody"

When you are in the MP-Lobby of the session.

The previous patch only had some misc fixes, this current update did the following.
Quote:

"PC patch released to address a single priority Graphics Code issue, seen to trigger a notable number of in-race hangs across a variety of system configurations."

You can replay/finish any and all events from the Timeline which is on the same line of menus as custom events.
It's not exactly replaying the career but not like there's any point to that either, it's just per event fanfucking anyway.

------------------
Rivals
- Random or assigned by yourself for a weekly competition of who get's more XP. epeen.

Global Challenge
- Objective based races per week by Codemasters, for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place medals (points), epeen.

Predefined playlist events:
- Guaranteed mass crashes in the first few corners.
- Dodgy, hard to calculate ghost-to-solid transformation
- mostly random outcomes

Custom Events / Lobbies
- custom rules for everything, including collisions on/off

UltraRevolutionaryMegaGoodFeelThisShitBro Matchmaking system
- white/green/yellow/orange/?red? badges in front of your name
- matchmaking tries to put you in groups of similar drivers which so far, for about 60 online races for me was OK, not too many douchebags but still inevitable crashes in tight spaces with "white-green" racers.

Leveling up, unlocking cars/upgrades/customization, earning money, buying things after unlocking them, upgrading cars even to +1 tier.

Is it worth 20e ?
Try the ISOdemo and if you like the driving then...yes? In theory it is better than the offline career mode in terms of achieving something yourself and having some choice in it. It's probably even better if you can do customized events with people from a serious community unless mass crashes and destruction derby are your style.
