not Necessary,this might help:

the solution for a game manager on a 1:1 card is a very simple one, you just have a DS mode manager homebrew app that will re partition either an internal built in flash chip or the micro SD and copy the rom over on the new partition after it is re formatted ,if the card has a built in flash that is the max size of current 3ds carts , you just switch to DS mode to use the manager and load a new rom, then you dont have to have a PC to change the roms all the time
assuming you can fit a dual ds/3ds mode card in the housing

http://www.ps3crunch.net/forum/threads/7245-Gateway3DS-FAQ?p=72749#post72749

Quote:

- Is it one microSD per game?
Currently yes.

- Must the microSD card size match the game size?
No, so long as the microSD card is larger than the rom size.

- Can it play games from other regions?
Currently no, however due to popular demand, we have launched an investigation into this possibility.

- Can it play Homebrew?
No.

- Are saved games working? Once you take out the game is the save file kept or lost?
We are currently working to fully support back up and restore of save data.

- Can Nintendo block Gateway with an update?
Anything is possible we would rather not speculate (As always, any updates should be avoided)

- How big are the games and what is the minimum size for the microSD card?
Some range from 256MB to 4GB

- Can you play multiplayer local and mostly online?
Yes, but we advise not to use online features

- Do the game keep internet capacity?
Yes, but we advise not to use online features

- Is it upgradable?
Yes some aspects of the design will be upgradable.

- Can it run normal DS roms?
No, there are many alternative options for this.

- Suggested Retail price?
About $80/€65

Meh Sad

\o/. They want to charge $80 for that? Seems quite expensive. Look like really limited and it's missing some important features.

One game microSD per game is quite a dealbreaker, I am gonna have to walk around with 10 different sd cards?

Seems like I am gonna pass on the entire thing alltogether.

At least, as cyclone rightly said; it's a lot cheaper than buying individual games Smile If they can get around the 1-game-per-card limit via software, it will be even better, then if they can fix the RTC save backup stuff it will be damned near perfect. For now though; I'd definitely pass on it and wait for something with a little more teeth.

That's best way to describe it. I know I am not the only one who plays a lot of different games at time, before finishing even one. Would hate to lose save for one game just to play some other game.

I guess, I shall revisit this thread in a few months to see what progress has been made Razz Very Happy

This is awesome news, I'm still excited, and I'm hopeful progress will be made to overcome some of the limitations.

Now, on another topic, why you guys stating that the Wii-U is basically hacked? I know you can play hacked Wii games, but what the fuck else happened and where is the thread on it!! Very Happy

lets face it, there is no flashcard at all that will work for 3ds titles, the only card that was at all ever thought to even have a chance was something like the dstwo cards with a future firmware upgrade but that never happened and probably wont..

cant fault the unit though, its been a great little handheld gaming system.

My gf just got herself a 3DS. Would be really great if this would work Very Happy

And only one SC-card per game wouldn't be THAT bad, if saves would work. How many games do you play at once? Two or three? These cards are dirt cheap, at least cheaper than games, and you can use them again and again. So I wouldn't mind just buying a few.

But for that this has to be real first Wink

Well spotted slenoj! Seems it was blocked over a week ago and isn't, yet, compatible with v6+ 3DS firmwares.

Should have told me! I could have sold it to you for reasonable price so I could avoid ebay fees Sad Crying or Very sad ( If you live in USA, I would rather avoid ship it to different country)

Auction ends in 1day4hrs. Pretty sure it's possible to cancel auction with bids.

Guess it's not a rumour any more, it really is coming. Still has the same limitations as before (one game>SD, no out-of-region capability, some save issues) but it's definitely coming and will apparently be improved as they go along. No support for 3DS FW above 4.5 for now but, again apparently, newer support is coming.

Here are the user manuals and setup files;

All the first hacks ALWAYS leads to more. Smile Remember those stupid USB PS3 dongles??? Haha... I bought TWO of those! Good times. Then the flood gates. Smile

Exciting times for WiiU and 3DS.

I do indeed Very Happy Though I didn't buy one of those outrageously expensive "PSJB" dongles, I waited for the open-source implementation of PSgroove on a 16KB devboard Very Happy Yeah man, you're absolutely right; things invariably get better as they go on, I'm certain that within six months of Gateway being on the market there will be another, better, faster, more capable version out.
