It's very much a combination of the old Google Maps and Google Earth, but based entirely on open web standards. No need for any plugins or proprietary software (that may not be available on the OS you're using).

damn, I just got accepted in, it's a lot smoother and some pretty slick new changes in the interface. Mostly a huge improvement over loading and overall performance.
