EA exec says Xbox One/PS4 are a generation ahead of top-spec PCs

Quote:

EA executive vice president and chief technical officer Rajat Teneja has said that the architectures of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are "a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market."

Writing in a post on social media service LinkedIn, the former Microsoft employee said the next-gen hardware of both Sony and Microsoft is "a significant inflection point in the history of our industry" that will be "as profound as the introduction of smartphones or Facebook to the market."

"Both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have adopted electronics and an integrated systems-on-a -chip (soc) architecture that unleashes magnitudes more compute and graphics power than the current generation of consoles," says Teneja. "These architectures are a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market and their unique design of the hardware, the underlying operating system and the live service layer create one of the most compelling platforms to reimagine game mechanics."

The importance of the cloud will also tie into the future of games, according to Teneja. "The power of connected data is going to be an integral part of the gaming experience," he said. "We see 2.5bn monthly game sessions and 50 [terabytes] of daily telemetry data on our network alone. The Xbox Live network required 500 servers when it launched a decade ago and as was mentioned yesterday, they are now provisioning 300,000 servers to handle Xbox data in the cloud. That growth is staggering, but it also means we’ll really start to see more examples of true cross-device play."

"You don’t have to be an engineer or even a gamer like me to appreciate the power of these new devices," he concluded.

EA this week announced that its new, next-gen Ignite engine will power its upcoming sports titles. DICE's Frostbite engine will also play a key part in EA's next-gen development.

Microsoft announced the Xbox One earlier this week. Check out GameSpot's Xbox One hub for more information on the successor to the Xbox 360

And an xbox can get the RROD for no apparent reason either. They're all machines that can become faulty due to one reason or another. The only difference is that on a PC/Laptop you might actually fix the problem yourself while on a console it's dead, it's flat out dead and you either have to send it back for repairs or throw it away and get a new one.

Anywho, I only own a Wii so that me and my girlfriend can play games on it together (mostly mario games).
I've got a stationary PC which I use for almost everything else, the laptop is hers and we sometimes hook it up the the TV to watch either downloaded movies/series or netflix.

I, like you also have to manage my time because there's so little of it. I have plenty of games that I just have there and I'm not in the mood to play, but there are also a couple that I'd love to play on the Wii but I just seem to have the time for it.

I still stand by my opinion: PS4 will dominate xboxone/PC

Let's see if the moderator permbans me again for having this opinion.

I also don't see a diff between 30 vs 60 fps, is that an nfohump rule you get permbanned for?

arik22

No, you got banned for forcing those opinions on others with retarded statements.

That you can't see the difference between 30 and 60 fps, says more about your brain then ours Laughing

Show me where those statements are that can be viewed as banneable offense.

Really because I don't see a diff between 30fps vs 60 i'm stupid?

Relax is got nothing to do with the fact you cant see the difference.
You're just stupid.

Yeah fable's quote title is a little off, because he talks about the architecture. A generation ahead is a bit of an exaggeration, because it's the "next-gen" for PCs as well.

Thanks but i'm comparing games that i've been playing.

I've played bf3 60fps on pc and 30 fps on consoles, I personally don't notice a diference.

FPS WISE!

Graphics the PC dominates the console counterparts of course

That migth be because You've note seen direct comparison of the same game running on screen next to Yours or at least on another output.

Also. 30fps controls rather smoothly with controller's analog stick, that's also why You might see it as smooth "as pc". On pc 30fps with mouse isn't too comfortable, but with analog it feels good and after some time playing without another direct comparison to 60fps, it's easy enough to get used to it. For example - pc port of resident evil 4 was 30fps and used NO MOUSE.
The game looked weird at the beginning but because of being played with a keyboard, I quickly forgot that it's running only 30fps and accidentaly finished it 4 times on pc Razz

edit: heavily edited terrible spelling in my post and added a sentence or two... I really should look at my posts.. before posting...
