well five years down the line if the catalogue of XO games is as epic as they say it may be, then yes. Games make the console. Right now it's just an entertainment machine...
It's lol. We are gamers at heart. Games make the system. Exclusives are a bastard bullshit move to sell consoles. Not to sell games. It sucks. XO and PS4 have games that could be system sellers but right now they're aimed at dudebros who have played the same games over and over.
And it's XO. As in commanding officer.

This thread is pure win <3
Especially when you observe the whole clusterfuck from the 'outside' as an external spectator who's only interested in seeing the console world burn

The Playstation 4 presentation was decent. They showed some renders. The specs are okay (nothing like PS3/X360 when they said 512RAM I was like - I'm buying 2GB Ram + 256MB GPU RAM at the moment, 512 what were they thinking?). Though 8 core low frequency Cores are somewhat unknown. I doubt they can compete with iCore 5 even on heavy multithreaded scenarios. But 8GB GDDR5 is quite impressive.
But this MS conference was pure bullshit. It just got down in flames.
And this saddens me. As I like some MS products. Windows is good OS, even 8 when you disable ModernUI, but you need something like Star8 to do it. Modern UI is ok when you have a tablet. Windows Phone 8 is good mobile OS for non-power users (so it's not for me). .Net is just the best managed programing platform (take that Java), wished it was more multi-platform. X360 had it's pros and cons. I'm more Playstation guy (I'm PC elitist at first, but there was ton of great games at PS2 and some on PS3), but can recognize value of X360 if someone don't play on PC.
But this... pathetic

http://www.edge-online.com/news/ps4-is-more-powerful-than-xbox-one-on-paper-but-microsoft-will-catch-up-says-avalanche-studios/
Quote: | We asked Avalanche’s chief technical officer Linus Blomberg how the two consoles compare. “It’s difficult to say, as it’s still early days when it comes to drivers,” he told us. “With each new driver release, performance increases dramatically in some areas. The PlayStation 4 environment is definitely more mature currently, so Microsoft has some catching up to do. But I’m not too concerned about that as they traditionally have been very good in that area. The specs on paper would favour the PS4 over the Xbox One in terms of raw power, but there are many other factors involved so we’ll just have to wait and see a bit longer before making that judgment.”
Chief creative officer Christofer Sundberg also told us that Xbox One’s connected play will allow Avalanche’s games to become more directly relevant to its players.
“We were one of the fortunate developers to get our hands on the Xbox One early, but the public reveal only confirms that Microsoft is staying on course with their plans – to make the Xbox One the entertainment center of the living room,” he told us. “The big positive was obviously that it’s a fantastic piece of hardware offering a huge range of possibilities for developers to connect with players in ways that have been close to impossible to date.”
“Next generation to me has always meant more than nice graphics,” he added. “I don’t really see any big negatives at this point. For me, the success of the new consoles will be determined by how much freedom developers will have to make our gaming experiences customized for our fans.” |
- Microsoft
- Freedom to developers
Pick one.
Also dat devkit that gets faster with newer drivers Is it AMD writing them?

GDDR5 vs DDR3 doesn't mater all that much. More important is that MS uses 32MB or VRAM embedded directly on the GPU that serve as cache. That VRAM takes up GPU space, meaning that the GPU is less powerful at the same clock speed. This is where they will lose performance compared to the PS4 (XBO is expected to have 12 GPU cores, PS4 should have 18 ).
Since DDR3 uses less power and is cooler than GDDR5, MS could be able to push higher GPU clock speeds than Sony, but since the PS$ is expected to have 50% more GPU cores they would need 50% more clocks to reach the same level. Unlikely.

A thought form an outsider: A year ago I would agree with the "PC is the only platform you need", but now after a year at work where I sit like 70-80% of my time at my shitty company laptop, I could imagine nothing worse now, than to come home and sit in front of PC again. I want to relax with my game. I for one am excited for the PS4. No more sweaty palms form the overheating "gaming" laptop and no more sitting on a chair at home like a kid switching between homework and a game. These times are over for me. It makes sense that the console won't be as powerfull as the custom gaming rig. Sony and MS have to have some margin on there gaming boxes.. End of thought..

Yes. That argument makes as much sense as saying a chef when he comes home from work does not feel like eating because all day long he was cooking.

Let's see if the moderator permbans me again for having this opinion.
I also don't see a diff between 30 vs 60 fps, is that an nfohump rule you get permbanned for?

No, you got banned for forcing those opinions on others with retarded statements.
That you can't see the difference between 30 and 60 fps, says more about your brain then ours

"Consoles are good for one thing; exclusives." That's what the companies made from it. That's the modern marketing for you. I get what you are saying. I have been building my own PC since I was young, I paid just for games that I liked, at the core, I am a pc guy. I have a gaming laptop now. Right now, I am considering buying a console because, you could say that I am tired of pc. I play 20 % of games that I download, I watch 10 % of movies that I download. That is just the momentum form when I had time. Now I am 9 hours a day at work + 1,5 hours traveling to and from. Then my girl, cat, friends... Hell I wonder how I get time to even turn on my pc, browse warezbb and than foolishly think that I will have time to play all those games that I download. Everyone has their own progression I guess...

But how is that different than turning on a console and playing a game that does take time to get into? I mean, I really don't see the difference at all.
If I got an hour to kill I sit in front and play a shooter for 30-45 minutes because it's the easiest to get into without investing too much time.

When I think about it, I is possible to build my own console and not to rely on those corporate bastards at Sony and MS. If I have some time I might do it.. But wouldn't the home built console cost twice as much as the PS4?

I second that. How is it different? I have XBOX 360 and PC and I don't use the console anymore. It boots longer than my PC, next thing I have to find the game in shitty GUI. How is that different. There are some less and more time consuming games on both platforms.
You are repeating that PR BS they pushed while trying to sell consoles - that it's easier to handle because you don't have to install drivers and fiddle with settings. But it has nothing to do with your time management and the fact you are getting older so real life > games.
