It's much much better, but probably too old school for some people, so.

What part of this game is old school? I played through RE1 DC just two days ago and nothing in Revelations resembles the older games

Resident evil needs a REBOOT. like MK9. go back to its original roots just like in the MK series they started getting to silly and story was getting out of hand. just like this if you've followed the RE story you would relize that this planet would be dead by now!!! the virus is everywhere!!!! America, Africa, Europe etc, etc, no one would be human by now.

What everybody means with the new games being old skool again is the the fact that you play the game from FIXED CAMERA ANGLES like RE1-2-3..So you can't use your camera to see what could be around the corner, and no headshot luckyness, just hold up or down and shoot either the head or limbs, and that's it

True horror roots, that's how's it done (IN MY OPINION)

How to spot invisible enemies in old RE: enter new room, aim, if the character aims to a different direction than where you have positioned him, that means there's an enemy that way. Doesn't apply to the games that give you the option to disable auto aim.

Also let's be honest manual aim (RE4 style) is more challenging that automatic aim (old RE style). Now if the game compensates by giving you 1000 bullets, that's a different matter.

that works from re2 on, re1 didnt have any kind of lock-on aim, thats why shooting the dogs or flying enemies from up close was a bitch, making it by far the hardest re game.

On what difficulty are you playing? I tried Infernal but it's insanely hard.

Infernal. Very Happy

It scared me at first but it's manageable. Read for more:

When the game starts even before the cutscene that introduces the first enemy plays the game has you fight half a dozen enemies in tight corridors. I was like "lolwut?! wut I dooo" I shot quite a few bullets in one and saw no result so I did my best to avoid/dodge them.

Then when the cutscene that introduces the first enemy plays it's a mandatory fight. I shot.. idk? 60? 70? 80? bullets to take him down? Laughing

Actually I ran completely out of ammo and it was still standing but luckily with knifing him and my partner shooting him I killed him.

Then the part from the demo follows. Now that I understood a single enemy will eat up all my ammo and won't die I only dodged them (which doesn't always work well..)

There's just no other way.

Then after Jill and Parker are gassed and she wakes up with her weapons gone you start picking up quite a few super overpowred custom parts that I doubt the normal difficulty gives you, or that it gives you so many and when you get your pistol back and apply them now you stand a very decent chance.

For example one of the parts fire 5 bullets at once. I have 3 in total applied that do a heck of a lot damage. A normal ooze takes 60+ bullets as I've found out right? Now it takes 3-4 times to shoot it with my modified gun. Of course there are so many enemies that you can't take them all down so for the most part you have to avoid them but if it's a single one and you have to take him down, you can.

Do I die? Oh yes, quite a few times, but this isn't the PSX times and you are not punished because the last time you saved was 60 minutes ago. For better or worse the game autosaves like all modern games. Also each episode is short, maybe half the length of a RE6 chapter, but this probably fits me better nowadays..

Now about the other two parts I played:

The part with Chris wasn't hard at all..
The part with Parker, the one with the hunters, started ok, but the final part of the level gave me a LOT of trouble. Easily 10+ deaths.

I don't know how it will continue, at first it seemed impossible to take down an enemy but now I am relatively overpowered (again, against a single enemy and only if I have enough ammo). Who knows how they have balanced this difficulty that was actually absent from the 3DS game; we'll see how it goes.

But all the dodging instead of shooting I've done and the times I died (excluding the Parker bit with the hunters which was like a shooting gallery) very much reminds me of old RE.

tl;dr do I recommend Infernal mode? I think so! I'm not sure myself how it will progress but it seems both more challenging and exciting at the same time compared to the "normal" mode of the demo I played..

I also played the demo on normal & infernal difficulty and decided that I'll definitely go with Infernal once the game is out. But after playing through the first part I was like wtf is with these bullet sponges. Managed to kill the first two after firing A LOT of bullets and had like 20-30 bullets left, then 3 more ooze's popped out from a corner and one of them was likely more "dangerous" than the regular ooze creatures.

I'm not really looking to overpower myself or anything like that but it seemed like impossible to kill 5 of those things at the beginning of the game.

Guess I'll start a new game tomorrow and try to slip by the first ones. Smile

Another cool thing is that as far as I've understood enemy spawning and the custom parts you find etc are randomized to an extent between Infernal playthroughs so your experience will be a little different than mine (and/or in a future playthrough). Infernal seems like a cool mode.

Also I really dig that the plot is the first original one in the series since RE4. Entirely new cast (other than Chris & Jill), new environments, new BOWs, new terrorist organization.

No Zombies, no Plagas, no Umbrella, no Tricell, no Wesker, no Raccoon. Feels a lot more fresh than RE5/6.

There's a beta for the demo that adds 2560x1440 & 1440x900 resolution support along with options to disable mouse acceleration & aim assist.

It seems the best settings currently are mouse acceleration: on (there's suspicion "on" is actually "off" lol) & aim assist: off.

My shotty is ready.

I put some killer upgrades to it, I just haven't got the chance to fire it, but given the power of the stock one (2 shots to kill a regular Ooze) things are looking very promising.

There was a monster that crawls, I have encountered it only once, and it took like 5 shots from the regular one, I wonder how my upgraded one will fair.

Still doing my best to avoid enemies and still dying a lot though Laughing

Ah, if only this game had the budget of RE6. So Much Win

After Chris' episode (which is short), you'll play as Jill but with her weapons stolen. When you find your weapons again, right next to them is this: http://residentevil.wikia.com/Weapon_Bench and you can apply any weapon upgrades you've found.

So, very soon. Smile

But make sure you scan the environment of each and every room with the Genesis or you'll miss some!

After the first 4 episodes I can say that I quite like it, but not as much as I thought I would have. Maybe my expectations were too high Razz

There's less hand-holding if compared to the awful RE6 and no QTEs (except for the ones when you get 'hugged' by a monster, but those are justified), exploration has slightly more importance (still, it's the basic "find the key->you are winrar") and even the very action-oriented parts -that I didn't like- are more tolerable than the hilariously bad Gears-inspired ones in RE6. The graphics are decent for an enhanced 3DS game, and the story is the typical RE-cheese with different protagonists, so it's nothing new under the sun.

In short (IMO)
+ Jill's sequences, albeit still actioney, are pretty enjoyable and almost RE4-like
+ Good atmosphere

- Banal puzzles (actually there's only one kind that gets repeated)
- Shooting feels static, with no gory effects and physical interactions whatsoever
- Mouse controls/FOV are far from being perfect
- The linear forced pew pew sequences feel out of the place

It can be a fun game if you approach it with the right spirit, just don't expect the old-school RE. That one is gone forever..
