Yep, compared to Bioshock 1-2 gameplay concept, this Infinite is really shit and dumb.

Gameplay is very, very shallow, that's for sure, and I personally found the story to be all hype. It was however very pretentious. Perfect game for snobs.

With a story as good as Infinite's (and the obviously very talented writing behind it) there's no need to be pretentious whatsoever.

storywise, from the first 1 hour I already guessed 80% of it.

Its a nice game but its nothing groundbreaking. Medicore.

Great game but not on the same level of Bioshock where it truly matters (gameplay wise).
Also BS had a slightly better atmosphere to it, the desolate setting was much better than Columbia IMO.

I for one found Bioshock 1 mediocre. While it had the atmosphere and engagement, it lacked the combat gameplay, which despite Infinite's shortcomings (2 weapons lolz) is much more versatile in this one exactly because your vigors aren't just another weapon like plasmids were. Plasmids were utterly boring. I don't find the gameplay in this any more shallow than it was in BS1. It's certainly not an innovative masterpiece, but neither was BS1. Between the two, the gameplay in this is better; but BS1 was more engaging thanks to the Big Daddies/Little Sisters.

I still haven't worked my way through it, but I'm enjoying it. Its mechanics are solid (albeit simplistic), its presentation is marvelous and its story + setting are very well done, even if the story may not be a masterpiece.

Reasons why I like bioshock1 are:
hacking, weaponupgrading, no weapon limit, researches, uinvent, ammotypes

But yeah its obvious that some people like infinite better, while some like shock1 better.
I just stick with the 1st one.
But yeah, the shooting mehanics are really fluid and dynamics in infinite.

Yeah, like I said at least once in this thread, gameplay wise I preferred BS1, especially enjoyed the hacking and the plasmid management in those dispensers (I don't know why, I just had a lot of fun with that), but in everything else Infinite is at least on par (and even better in story IMO) when compared to BS1. Then again, I know a good number of people that didn't like BS, so I suppose they would think this one was "boring and dull" as well. And that's ok, we're entitled to different tastes, that's the same thing I think about games like Diablo and Torchlight.

For me Bioshock and Infinite are almost like two completely different -and unrelated- games, since they have very few similarities gameplay-wise. Bioshock was deeper, slower and more focused on exploration than shooting.

Infinite on the other hand was fundamentally a linear shooter with huge focus on providing a cinematic feel, while also granting solid (imo), fast and responsive combat which I found very entertaining.

In the end I liked them both equally, but my favourite Shock game ever is -by far- not Bio at all, it's more shaped like a System and and carries the number 2. Razz

I guess this is where most people will have different opinions. The hacking bored me shitless after the first 5 (the real pipe mania is much better Razz) and the "research" I found quite tedious. Weapon upgrades are still in, just in a different way; the utility you got from them in BS1, you now get from vigors and their upgrades. Uinvent was too limited for my taste (should've had more unique stuff in there). I do miss the ammotypes though, that would've worked well in this one too Very Happy

I found Bioshock 1 and 2 fairly boring and uninteresting. It was pretty and sounded nice but everything else I thought was mediocre. Combat included, spamming bullets and plasmids into a bullet sponge called big daddy wasn't really my idea of tactics.

Not that I really care about combat but I did slightly prefer Infinites combat. However I truly loved Infinite for the story, but even more so because of the amazing attention to detail. In the story, but also in the world design and in audio design. Once you replay it and look at all the other peoples comments you realize how well thought out it all was, and that's what truly makes it great for me.

And pretentious story? Laughing I can't even think of a reply because that doesn't make sense in the slightest.

Well generally people who are kissing Bioshocks ass are people who haven't played System Shock 2.

To me they pretty much improved and copied on what they already had with the exception that they removed much of the RPG elements and derpified it.

Even the plot twist half way in was pretty much copied from SS2. At least Infinite tried a new recipe. Too bad it didn't live up completely to the pre-release gameplay demo.

Finally finished it yesterday, after a loooooong gameless period, great game. I thought it was the best in the series, even though the gameplay/shooting wasn't that exciting. It was a nice placefiller for a great game. I didn't miss the hacking and all the other trivial stuff from Bioshock 1. The attention to detail in this game is what sold it for me. They could've told the story in a more exciting way, but it still worked for me.

8.5/10

Bummer, seeing new posts here again made me think they finally released a patch. Guess they will not bother fixing anything till they release the first DLC.

I'm pretty much of the same opinion as Werelds, only I have much less exposure to the first ones, as I found them worse (at least the first one) than "mediocre". The first one was easily one of the most boring games I've ever tried. Infinite however was amazingly enjoyable for me, gameplay-wise too.

How the hell you managed to squeeze it to 28 hours? I played on 1911 and i consider myself as slow player. Watch the sights , go everywhere to check and still i passed it for 13 hours (if we can believe steam time counter)

Well, some reviewers beat it 10-15, others 15-18. I found one with 22 hours, cant remember which. I was taking everything slow, I never sprinted or anything (AFAICR) except combat. Overall, an exceptional game. There's many players on forums commenting, a 20-something hours playthrough is quite common apparently...
