To be honest we have a lot of people using VPN/Proxy to access the site. Given that we do not support HTTPS and it's also used for pirate talk, I can only relate to that and their need for security. I wouldn't want to lock out a portion of the legit users just to counter a virtually non existent problem with spambots. So far we managed them quite well and I rather have the mods cleaning up some spam posts than banning normal users for using protection (e.g. we wouldn't be any different than game companies that use copyright protection stuff which impacts legit users  )
