That's what you get when 80% of the posters in a topic doesn't own the game discussed; They don't know what they are talking about and overlook the amazing DLC that was released already...

And don't forget the free game you got... I consider that downloadable content too Very Happy

To me personally, it doesn't matter what type of model companies prefer to use when it comes down to assigning versions to the software they develop. As an end user, I don't care whether the new version of a piece of software I frequently use is v5002324.34 or vMKW (build 0.004112) so long as effective and reliable changes have been made and known and/or minutely issues have been swept away.

Why i quit posting, no amount of me going "Despite the problems, I can still enjoy it" seem to be understandable to anyone with personal venom for the game..all I got was "but but...I DISLIKE it, and people that pay for webspace to post reviews dislike it..so im confused, and perplexed how you can"..so I just shutup and did what i got the game for, to play it, not argue on a forum why I got it.

Despite others disliking it, it is possible to hold an opposite opinion than someone else Smile

Wow..what a shock.. you haven't posted in this forum in like 2 months and the moment silent lurker takes an insult you appear.. nope..nothing suspicious here.. tell us again what a great game this is.. it goes well beyond what the people paying for webspace said, user reviews of this game are in the toilet as well. This game is universally reviled at all levels. That's why it's such a mystery.

I post here almost everyday just not in this topic...way to be ever observant there..
Capt oblivious here cant even tell when people post, yet wants to try to play detective of who is 'alts'...

And I will since you asked...to me (note the to me part there so you dont confuse my opinion with me quoting someone else) Its an enjoyable game..Im sorry you cannot wrap your head around that someone doesnt universally agree with you and gamesites..but it is possible..

Does that cause you to perhaps deem me an idiot, and have horrible tastes in game? probably..but then that should bother me or effect me....how again? that someone I dont know, never played a single game with, or even talk to thinks my game taste are lacking. Rolling Eyes

I tried to get into that I really did. Biggest deal breaker for me is that once I would get just a little built up, the game would start to lag BAD, and only way to continue was to exit and restart every 20 minutes. Now I feel Sim City 4 with NAM, CAM and a few other goodies along with a 3rd party launcher for custom resolutions and other control options, is excellent. I stay away from the radical mods though, aka cheats.

I cant really remember Lurker definding this game, other then sharing his opinion. Which seems to be shared by many, including me. Furthermore, its based on an actual expierience, which makes it alot more informational then the opinion of haters who never actually played the game. All you do is assimilate a reviewers opinion and call it your own. Go play the game, and tell us about it. Or just link to the negative reviews you seem to agree with, to keep this thread informative and constructive. Like lurker does. If you want to bash someones opinion, go bash your head to a wall.

Another patch out.. sighs.. Seems maxis still hasnt learnt to TEST their content... Idiots. Gonna shelve this puppy for now. and wait till 15.7

Yop.

The game is definitely not a simple piece of shit.
I spent 150+ hours on it, and still enjoy it.

I just want Maxis to speed up and fix it.
Global market system is on test on their test server.

Several features are still disabled in the game, this is just lame.

Personally I did not pay full price and I kindy like pre-alpha, beta thingy, so I don't care that much.

But if you like finished game, you'd better wait some months to see how long EA will permit Maxis to support this game.

But again, Simcity is a nice game, less functional than SC4 for now, but I prefer it over CitiesXL or other ersatz.

@ Crossmr, just buy the game and test it yourself.
Or if you are not intersted, just get out of this thread. Laughing

This fixed that problem for me Smile

Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012\Data\Config

Open GlobalSettings.cfg with Notepad.

Search for <VisibilityEnabled>2</VisibilityEnabled> and change it to <VisibilityEnabled>0</VisibilityEnabled>

These changes will draw your objects once, so it doesn't re-render it every time you change zoom levels.

Now change <ProcessEnabled>1</ProcessEnabled> to <ProcessEnabled>0</ProcessEnabled>

This pre-renders objects in the game so there will be no real-time rendering

Now download this patch : http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

Open it, select your citiesxl.exe file.

This will patch the headers of the game, to allow it to use more than 2GB of RAM.

Go back to the globalsettings.cfg and search for <PoolSize>2048</PoolSize>

Change this to however much RAM you want it to use (obviously leave some for your system to run in the background).

Mark the file as Read Only.

Run the game, and when you see the splash screen, go to Task Manager, right click on citiesxl.exe and set affinity.

Untick CPU 0, leaving 1, 2, and 3 checked.

Close task manager and enjoy a much smoother experience.

Just gotta find out how to set affinity automatically at game start, as it resets to default values when game is closed, annoying to have to set manually at game launch, but much better experience. Smile

Thx for that, have a Gold Star! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Took a bit of figuring out, but I got there lol. You have to use the 'hexadecimal' variant in the switch.

Here is how mine worked out:

I have 8 cores, but I don't want the game using core 0, so, use the binary method to calculate what cores you want on or off:

Binary works from RIGHT to LEFT

11111110 <---- core 0 is off, core 1-7 are on (1=on 0=off)

Converting this binary at the site below:

http://www.mathsisfun.com/binary-decimal-hexadecimal-converter.html

Gives me a hexadecimal of 'FE'

This is what I use in my affinity switch as below:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "" /normal /affinity FE "E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities XL Platinum\CitiesXL_Platinum.exe"

Works a treat! Cores 1-7 active on game start Wink

A broken game can't be enjoyed right? I don't want to enjoy it so much that I pretend to do so. The flaws just don't really mess up the that much in the beginning. An expanding city works fine and is highly enjoyable. But due to the lack of testing and bugfixing, the problems get worse when your city gets bigger and crowded. It takes a few hours of play before you get there though. This goes on up to a point when everything breaks down. I read a review just before launch when the press was able to play the game for a few hours. I'm pretty sure Maxis knew about these flaws that would show up in the long run. And I feel this was also why the beta only lasted a few hours. They knew the game would suck in the end and were fixated on sells rather then quality. Looking at it from that perspective; that strategy worked fine. It sold.

Now people just feel ripped off. And they are right.

Broken it is, and they well knew that before release Wink The only hope for peeps who bought this shambles, is to get their money back. I was lucky, Paypal have that 45 day thing here in UK, and got mine eventually Smile Chargeback elsewhere I would urge!

Beware that your Origin account may be banned/removed as a result, but, that's great for me, as it's a heap of bloated shit anyway, and the five games I had on it, can glide roughly up their asshole till it hurts badly.

I'll still sleep better for it, knowing all that shit has gone.
