To me it sounds like an endless game.
If they get that micro/macro universe thingy working...plus the internet-community-database connectivity...or whatever...
who needs FPS/RTS/RPG anymore ?
The whole concept seems to be the Dawn of Videogames.

If it's done, we will see

Yeah perhaps you are right that RTS doesnt require that good reaction-time and so. But I assume you do know that an average person got more skills then those right? Like eg. chess. I doubt that a good reaction-time will give you that much (atleast in untimed games) but I would like to meet a person that thought the game didnt require skill to play.
To find a good strategy you will need some logic which is a skill.
On topic.
Spore sounds really interresting. The way you evolve and all that. I suspect I might play it a bit to much then it comes out.

We're not saying Spore will be good because it's different, we're saying that we're happy that at least some people are trying to make games that is not "just another game", but is something completely new.
From what I've read in this thread it sounds like we're split into two groups:
1) Those who wants everybody to keep making games that have proven to be successful.
2) Those who wants people to try new stuff, but that doesn't mean that we don't want to play games that most people like
I do play FPS games now and then, but just because I love FPS games, that doesn't mean I don't want to try other games too.
And unless you consider all aspects of what you know about an idea for a game you could quickly end up dissing a game that could turn out to be the greatest game ever. Just look at The Sims, even though a lot of people hates this game it has a very large fanbase and has influenced the gaming world, you can't deny that fact. But I remember the first time I heard about it I shook my head, thinking "who would ever play such a game?", but now this game has a huge success. I've seen hardcore FPS players who plays this game, I've seen people who don't know much about computers play this game, I've seen old people play this game, I've seen young people play this game, I've seen guys play this game, I've seen girls play this... I've never thought that a game where you have to make sure your sims go to the toilet can be that much fun, for that many people...

Ive prob come across wrongly. i was meaning that we shouldnt knock fps action(the good ones) as they are the most fun, prob cos they are nearest to real-life being able to play god(shoot people, steal cars etc etc). but yes i also would love to see something new tried and hope such games will be good fun too. as was mentioned before the old pacman, kong etc were great fun as was defender etc so not only fps games are good.

That's funny, but I've been saying since TS2 release one of their EPs will be a green box filled with manure and grass. It'll be called "The Sims 2: Life on the farm" Pre-order for a pitchfork. They'll charged $75 for it and break record sales.

The expression "ergo" existed, and was used, a long time before "The Matrix" was conceived, maybe if you kids would realize the world was actually in existence prior to your birth, you'd actually comprehend that latin words such as ergo weren't made up in "The Matrix".
But thank you, very much, for revealing your reference. Before this mention, by you, I did actually think that you were a bit more developed than to "attack" people for using latin in their english sentences.
Perhaps if I had used "et cetera" (which I do use, occasionally) or p.s. (poste scriptum), or quid pro quo, or ... in your case, blennus.

First off, I hope you realise I was joking
Secondly, if you ever used 'ergo' or 'quid pro quo' in a casual conversation with someone, they would instantly think one of two things;
1. You're a moron.
2. You're trying to appear intelligent, plus, you're a moron.
It's your choice if you want to give that impression.

Ah, the old 'joke'-card. Yes, yes of course you were.
I do not have many discussions with people in the age of 13-19 (well, aside for on these forums), but should I have one, I will heed your advice and avoid using words that would make them feel... insecure or insignificant (which then would result in them throwing irrational tantrums, like teenagers usually do).
Anyone who think that people who use words like these are morons, or 'try to appear intelligent and are morons' are really only projecting their own moronity.
"Oh no! Here's an old latin word, that must mean that the individual that uses is is a moron! Of course! How genial of me! I now know precisely everything about the usage of language and the sociological implications it has on a person using them!"

How someone like fisk survived on this forum for 2000+ posts is rather surprising. All you seem to be doing is inciting flame wars. Your activity here is very trollike, and the fact that you can't stand to talk down to our 13-19 age level makes me wonder why exactly do you come here?
So tell me fisk, what games do you really enjoy playing? What's your favorite colour? Food? If you were stuck on an island and had to choose three thing to be stuck with what would they be and why?

Stop this, I've expressed my explicit opinion on the game, if negative criticism on a game is to "incite flame wars", then somebody is a bit oversensitive.
Like I explained previously, I think that hyping a game years before it's release is a pretty sure way to disappoint consumers. The rest of my replies in this thread were to people who could not tolerate that my opinion are different than theirs.
Why do you think they else would attack trivial things, such as the usage of "ergo"?, Really?
There is no substance in that.
Quote: | Your activity here is very trollike |
How about you, instead of pretending to be a mod, leave the personal issues in a PM? You think I'm a troll... fine, write an essay about that, and I shall see if I deem it worthwhile to reply to.

Now you're misinterpreting on purpose. Any person who is in that age-group, that is so insecure, he has to call me "a moron" because I use words like "ergo" - I talk down to.
That's the end of it.

Currently: Rome: Total War, Operation Flashpoint (with the 1.96 ECP-addon), T.J. Cloutier World Class Poker, and on occasion - Rainbow Six (Athena Sword). I did like KOTOR, KOTOR 2, The gothic-series, Baldur's Gate (1 & 2), the Fallout-series, and all of Troikas titles.
My favourite colour is purple.
Favourite food is Souvlaki with Tzatziki
The three things would be: 1. My girlfriend. 2. Good food 3. Good drink (ie. Ice tea)
1. Because I love her.
2. Because I really like good food
3. Because I really don't like water.
Yes, yes I'm back.

well according to me you all need to stop bitching about. sure fisk says a couple of bad words about most games that hits the market, but the man is entitled to a opinon right? also its seldom that i've seen him start to insult ppl. i mean we are here to discuss games. not to bitch on eachother (if you really want to bitch on eachother. go to usless void or something). and im not saying anyone is better then the next man, i think you all act like children when you are bitching about like this. its just sad. THIS IS NOT ISONEWS! now let us all be friends =)

Fisk, I don't see why anyone would ever bother to use 'ergo' or 'quid pro quo' in conversation when 'Therefore' and 'an eye for an eye'/ 'reciprocation' function just as well, and are understood by the majority.
You go on thinking that your pseudo-intellectual babble will impress people, but it just doesn't. It's unnecessary and pretentious.
Why do you even bother coming to these forums Fisk? We obviously arn't part of your intellectual elite. Are you that insecure that you need to feel superior to some kids on a warez forum just to satisfy your ego? Or maybe this is just pratice for when you go out and actually talk to some pompous philosopher who might appreciate your crap.

That much was obvious. You do not understand the need for usage of loanwords. You do comprehend that the english (and pretty much every) language is littered with them. Why does a word such as ergo aggravate you so much? Just shrug and move on - since I am not writing it to "feel superior" (this I certainly know), I suppose it's because you feel inferior.
Don't. It's irrational.
Quote: | You go on thinking that your pseudo-intellectual babble will impress people, but it just doesn't. It's unnecessary and pretentious. |
What's unnecessary and pretentious, is your need to comment on the usage of a word. It's a word man! Why the hell does a certain word implicate "pseudo-intellectual babble"?
What this really is about seems to be that you can't handle the fact that I disagree with you, isn't it?
There's nothing pseudo-intellectual about disliking hype, or telling someone that they're wrong when they say things such as, eg. 'You would like an option for incest in modern games', ie. an immature misinterpretation.
^
In the sentence above, I used the abbrevation for id est (i.e.), but it seemed to be allowed by your "keen eyes" - or is it that the usage of that, somehow is allowed in your group of friends, and therefore is OK to use on forums?
I also used eg. (exempli gratia); is that OK by you? Perhaps I should consult you every time I wish to know whether I express myself to an extent that you find moronic, or whatever.

Now you're acting like a child.
Grow up, and learn to tolerate the fact that opinions vary.
There's no need for anyone here to "go away" because of it.
You could always go and complain to the moderators. I am pretty sure they will heed your words:
"He used ergo omfg! Such a self-important twat! Ban him! Waah!"

It's not about the one word you used in this thread. It's about the adolescent, pessimistic, know it all attitude of yours. Varied opinions are good, if expressed in a civilised manner. What you do is simply put people down, call them kids etc. in your usual 'got a stick up my ass' way. You are suprised that people get fed up with you? I dont belive many people in RL would put up with your bullshit. That's why you come here? Nobody will take you serious, so you come here point out to bunch of kids (by your own disposition) how inferior they are?
That must be it. I dont see any other reason. I know nforce members dont post here to move up in a popularity contest, but you are expected to at least get along in a orderly manner with some of the population which reads these post. You are trully despised on this board by most of us (dont make me start a poll, it would be really embarrassing for you) that have been here longer the few months. You must finnally realise the fact that you are a prick, there are many pricks out there, you just happen to be one of them.
Ispep, i feel like getting rid of fisk as much as the next guy, but id reather find out more about him, in hopes of meeting him in RL.

Well, I should clarify; I don't want to get rid of Fisk at all, nor do I despise or think he is a detriment to the forum. In fact I think his presence is a good thing and many of his posts are insightful and bring about some good discussions.
The problem is he can be very pedantic and confrontational towards other members and of course as a result many take offense too easily. I don't think AnimalMother is upset by any of this and nobody else should be. At the end of the day there is an IGNORE USER button and if you really do despise someone on here then by all means use it. The trouble is with people who despise others but enjoy the fracas of a bust up.
I think there is a lot of truth to what both AnimalMother and Fisk say and they both make good points - but they are not 'absolutes', so it is open to debate, which is what they seem to be doing.
It would be boring if we all agreed and had the same opinion on games. I've been on forums where the majority don't like PES but prefer FIFA and the rest of the games discussion follows that line of thinking. It's very fustrating. It's nice to have a mixture of opinions and styles of posting.
