Amazing Single Player Mod for HL2.
The author has just released the third part (which apparently requires HL2: Episode 1 now):
http://www.hylobatidae.org/minerva/phosphenes.shtml
I loved parts one and two (which are included in the installer, download the current version and you can play the entire mod), I found them a lot more enjoyable than HL2 itself.

Looks good. You need a hl2 steam installation (bought and verified) to use any mods, am I wrong?

cracked Steam client/Steam launcher does the same job
I really loved the first two parts of this mod and I'll try part 3 ASAP if I can find my "installation" of HL2 (on my hdd that is, I fucking suck at organizing)

download the source SDK base under the tools tab and you should be able to run mods without installing HL2

Sorry to be a noob. I try to avoid it, but I missed the steam adventure the first time around I guess Not really had a thing for Valves system, mostly viewed it as the devil since it came out, but now I really want this mod..
I've searched around and gotten a picture of how it works but ofcourse I have some questions. First the client, is the best option PacSteam? I've found something "OpenValve" that emulated the steam server responces locally, but haven't really dared doing it. Also to me it sounds like SteamBuster is a replacement for the cracked steam client, and I can't figure out what the advantage is, but its included in PacSteam so I must be something of value. Any names (no links ofcourse) of tools / readmes / NFOs you'd point me to - I'd be much obliged.
Thanks for the help so far btw!
SpykeZ thanks for the suggestion, but it's really faster for me download 3 gigs of HL2 than 117 megs from official servers hehe.. Love the internet.
edit: found a new version that autoupdated so now I must have the newest pacsteam. Removed a question

@ syke247
I have it working (along with Episode 1,Lost Coast and other games)
First of all install latest Steam and run it to let it update, then close it down and use Sasio's undeadpatch to "crack" it.
Then you need to find the gcfs for Episode 1 and Source sdk base. (I'm not sure exactly, I just downloaded the whole shizzles)
You throw them in the steamapps folder. My cracked-steam recognized them and updated them.
You can get more help from the ppl at the Steam underground forum, no linky linky !

The best HL2 mod ever returns today on Steam for free (of course): http://www.valvetime.net/threads/adam-fosters-minerva-returns-early-look-video.243403/
Quote: | Tomorrow will see the highly acclaimed Half-life 2 Episode 1 mod, Minerva officially appear on Steam. Adam Foster, the creator of Minerva, was hired by Valve shortly after releasing the mod to critical acclaim back in 2007.
With the help (and nagging) of his colleagues at Valve, Adam is re-releasing Minerva as a Director's Cut edition with "tweaked visuals, bug fixes, better puzzles and all kinds of subtle improvements. Nothing majorly new, just old stuff tidied and polished for this re-release."
Expect the usual single-player shooting and puzzles, a healthy dose of mystery and plenty of on-screen dialogue from the unseen Minerva, who guides (and insults) you on your journey through a vast Combine underground facility. |
This is as close as you can get to new HL content released by Valve for now

I don't remember exactly anymore, but I'd say it's like 3-4 hours long? Decent length for a map pack.

I heard it is a bit longer than that. 5-6 hours or so, on average, is what I hear?
I haven't finished it yet but it does pick up the pace after the first two stages and then definitely delivers on atmosphere and action. The Source engine fukkin rules, some mad vertical level design in this one.

Adam Foster's two-and-a-half-year job application for the world's most enigmatic game developer.
..
What Adam Foster is working on at Valve he can't tell me. But consider the secrecy, consider his roots as a celebrated Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 world and story builder, and consider the reason he was hired in the first place. It all points to Half-Life 3. If such a project does exist, I ask him, would he be working on it? The interview ends with an "ooh, probably". |
