Just create the data folder, then simply extract the SKILLS folder from data0.pak. You'll need them in order to edit anyhow.

Damn sorry for the misleading infos but I couldn't try it because I wasn't at home . It works only if you manually create the skills folder inside the game's Data like Sabin and BettyShikle said.
After having tried it, -50 is a bit too much for me though, the weapons are basically indestructible. -10/-5 should be more reasonable

about choppy clunky engine as i mentioned before, i installed game on my friend pc ( amd x4, 560ti, 4 gb ddr) and it goes smooth fixed 60 fps'a, the way it should be running, but on my i5_3570k, 660, 8gb, afterburner says 60 fps, but sometimes it feels like 30-40 fps, some weird stuff.
Why walk, when you can ride.

21 Hours and 69% completion here, will do a more thorough run when directors mod is ported over.
I reinstalled Dead Island GOTY and tried to go back and get into it again but it doesn't have the same feel as Riptide for some reason which I enjoyed a lot more.
Really looking forward to Dead Island 2 if it is more of Riptide.

Well, I just finished this. Took me around 30 hours with 70% completion. Apparently I only missed 8 side quests (out of like 90 and not 100+, my mistake). I have to say that for me it was definitely better than the first game, and I really enjoyed that one back in 2011, despite all its technical problems and pitiful story. This one had some problems too, it appears, but I didn't experience most of them. The only problem that was noticeably annoying for me was UI related and it had to do with your selected weapon being changed after closing the world map.
The big strength of DI Riptide is the ultra-satisfying gameplay, it simply has no match in any other zombie-themed game I've played in the past. Crushing bones, hacking off extremities, burning, electrocuting, decapitating, all the little details that make the difference Now, mix the excellent combat system with an improved (IMO) world exploration and overall better levels and you got an addicting experience. Henderson, just like downtown Moresby in DI was simply an amazing place to explore. I think I didn't leave any outdoor areas undiscovered. I have to say however, that I was a little disappointed with the quarantin zone, it just didn't seem nearly as difficult and scary as the one in Moresby. Maybe it has to do with you reaching it nearly the end of the game when you're already too powerful, but regardless. Anyway, these mentioned elements are the ones that will make me instabuy any future game in the series
Now on to the bad stuff that keeps this game from being up there with the heavy weights. Story... wait, story? characters? voice act...? acting??. Two words: simply horrible. Also, ohhh man, I can't believe Techland
Spoiler: |
took the last segment of the first game (prison infirmary/hospital), performed a little make up and turned it into the Consortium Labs at the docks (lazy sons of bitches) that was simply shameless. And that final "showdown" with one of the lamest characters I've seen in my gaming life, (yeah... Hurrlow). I was LMAOing inside when I saw that little cinematic with her throwing her tantrum just before you have to fight her
|
Ohhh well, good thing that I was prepared for all of this writing debacle (like the steam achievement for beating the game says: "you've tricked me once"). Anyway, once more, gameplay emerges victorious and makes the game a really enjoyable one in my eyes.
I rated the first one 80/100. This one being an improved version of its predecessor, deserves a nice:
83/100
Very far away from my current GoTY (BioShock Infinite), but that's only justice being made.

Finished the game, I kinda disliked the ending and by that time the overall story had also gotten pretty weak but it was still fun to explore this new island.
It's pretty much more of the same from the original Dead Island but with a few tweaks and changes, whereas the first game had four acts and each using a unique location (The hotel beach resort, quarantined city, rainforest jungle and the island prison.) this uses a single act in 13 chapters and covers two primary locations which are a bit larger (The flooded rainforest and the marina village.) with some side locations connecting them.
For missions there's pretty much the same as the first game, you can ignore side missions but they give items and recipes but it usually resolves around killing something or collecting items, finding stranded (But perfectly safe.) survivors also trigger a rescue quest and entering the "dungeons" known as Dead Zones usually trigger a boss fight with a special named stronger undead.
(And finishing the side missions usually ends with the NPC becoming a gatherer for a infinite fetch mission for some cash.)
These Dead Zones are pretty useful for rarer items and components but the zombie density is even higher and the boss can be pretty tricky but it's mostly due to their high health.
For items there's some few new items for both melee and ranged with the ranged weapons (guns specifically, not the throwing knifes, grenades and such.) being upgraded with stuff like sniper rifles, rocket launchers (MAD ROCKET, weird name for their ammo.) and maybe more, I didn't find many new firearms but firearms in general are more readily available. (And later on even good firearms become more common.)
Melee weapons primarily get the h2h claw weapon which is nearly the same as the brass/spiked knuckles so it looks pretty weird when you flail your hands around but that's a animation issue.
There's also a chainsaw but I found two in the entire game, one from a side mission (Kinda impossible to miss.) which was crap and then one from a certain encounter which while unique (gold) was very under-leveled so I didn't use them much either.
For enemies there's the drowned (annoying) dead whom can attach to your new boat vehicle prompting a QTE event or ramming something against the undead to crush it and there's also a few new special undead like the (extremely annoying.) screamer.
(They work pretty well, there's more special dead around but there's also far larger groups of walkers and infected around.)
Exploring can be pretty fun but the quantity of undead can make it a bit of a slug fest before you get to the desired destination and fast travel maps are pretty rare but appear at key locations.
The new flooded terrain is pretty prevalent during the first half of the game in the jungle so you do get a lot of boat action but it is fully possible to just walk but it's quite slow.
There's a new mission type as well which appear a bit too often, base defense though at least the AI companions can handle themselves as long as they don't get grabbed.
(Which shows a small icon with their health gradually depleting, letting a NPC die is a automatic failure.) again it's used a bit too often when it's basically the same thing with larger waves and slightly different locations.
As for the collectibles there's some backstory via letters, recordings and such but it's grouped so all recordings are from one person and all journals from another, there's also postcards and guides to collect with some generic info.
(And secret files explaining the story a bit more in depth.)
Most of what was said about Dead Island applies here too, there's some enhancements and tweaks but yeah some of the faults also follow along with some unfixed engine issues like the disappearing items, stuttering problem was improved as of the new patch though.
(Never encountered it myself but it's mentioned often on the Steam forums.)
I hope the full sequel (This basically being Dead Island 1.5) sees some more work and overhauling but we'll see what the developers plans are if the franchise will continue further.

I still think that one thing some people are overlooking or not mentioning is this games soundtrack. I love the retro mixed with synthesizer. I was almost worried at first when i heard of this game because i was wondering how the intro menu music and in game music would be because the first game had great eerie tracks, but i think they out did themselves here. Its great stuff.

I've Been playing around 8hrs, I'm Xian Mei (the blade specialist) and I've only ever had a pistol and shotgun while on the ship at the beginning. Will some guns appear later on in the story or is it down to my character choice ?
