Not particularly drastic, just time saving. If fault searching (with no guarantees of ever finding the problem) takes longer than a secure erase/wipe and reinstall it's easy to decide which route to take. Besides, you get better performance from a fresh SSD.

So it comes down to what will take more time and most often it's more time effective to just wipe the drive and reinstall. You get the luxury of getting rid of junk files, registry bullshit and install fresh/latest drivers for your hardware and bad nand-blocks will be marked and reassigned to spare blocks. Besides, if there's a problem with the drive itself it will become apparent if free space is low.

I disagree here, finding out the cause and making sure it doesn't happen again is much more important then doing shit fast.. Otherwise he might end up with the same problem, over and over and over...

Altogether programe files86 takes up 86.1 gig so there is 40 gigs gone on the run somewhere?

It must be time to reinstall the OS by now. It will only take an hour or two.

Lots and lots of small files, it's killing the speed of even the fastes SATA drives. Wanted to backup my Steam folder which was like 300+GB. CBA to back it all up, lol.
