I'm looking for a website to host my mp3s. I upload songs and then listen to them through the site's music player.

I am in an unsupported country, and it works. Just make sure to be logged in when going there, if your account already has access. Use vpn/proxy to gain access.

Google Music is almost perfect except for two (unforgivable) flaws:
- They only support mp3. All your AAC/Vorbis/whatever files will be transcoded to mp3, a nowadays useless format whose limitations are well known and that can't reach transparency in some cases even at 320kbps.
- No gapless playback.

Incorrect about the first. They support AAC in .M4A and FLAC in .FLAC. Ogg and WMA also.

From the link you posted Laughing
Quote:
FLAC, ogg, and aac files are transcoded to 320kbps mp3.

That makes it unpractical for actual storage of your music library.

Hahah Laughing

But still, that service is not for storage but live playback. I wouldn't want to stream my FLACs.

I tried uploading my AAC collection once but it took ages and hogged my CPU since all files need to be transcoded first. I understand that they don't accept lossless formats, but using only mp3 makes me go "nerd-rage". This is the equivalent of a service like Youtube transcoding all your uploads to MPEG2

I agree, MP3 is a horseshit technology. But meh. It's good enough for what it does.

For some reason the sound does not play for me on this site. Also it has a bigass wave visualization. Too big, I dont need this. Is there a way to switch to a more minimal player? Like this:

Yeah, soundcloud is really the first choice. Don't know why you'd bother with anything else.

I'll probably use dating site's mp3 host/player. I will ahve to setup my website for this, but at least the player will be perfect.

you only need to use vpn for one time to log into service to gain access.
After that it works anywhere.
If that is too big of a hassle then yes, you need something else Razz

Gave it a try with vpn, but then asks me for creditcard info, since i don't have one nor even if i would, be able to select the correct country, it doesn't work.

Or zippyshare if you intend to provide individual, higher bitrate songs. Although it doesn't match in ANY way the convenience provided by soundcloud.
