They are using components that are more well known to them and less power hungry/heat creating than last generation.

Certainly no heat/noise/power consumption issues with the next consoles. They are basically using notebook/mobile parts, optimized for maximum efficiency. I can even see Sony or MS boosting that crappy 1.6ghz CPU with future firmware updates or console revisions, there should be enough leeway.

The Next Xbox Will Require an Internet Connection To Start Games, Sources Say

http://kotaku.com/the-next-xbox-will-require-an-internet-connection-to-st-470062456

"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

its still not 100% confirmed, just "sources" but do MS really want to go through with this? I'm still doubtful but it wont matter much, even if it is planned, there will be a shitstorm and MS can always back-pedal. after all its an artificial barrier that could theoretically be turned off, or in the case of Sony re-introduced at will. it may be in the interest of both parties to implement such systems in the long run but same as a digital-download-only console without optical drive its too early for that

I do hope somebody murders him and his team. Drastic thing to say, but it's true. They are pushing for a bad change in my life hobby and i would see them slaughtered for being the greedy fucks that they are before they ruin my hobby in a few years.

yup and next xbox will be even more "home multimedia device" and less gaming device. ps4 is being advertised as gaming device for gamers. most of sony exclusives are great, most of ms exclusives are shit (biggest "exclusives" on 360 were early access DLCs for CoD, pathetic)

Always online is harsh although it wouldn't be a problem for me in 99.9999% of cases it seems worthless. Require games to be online activated but do not require a constant connection.

yeah it seems really stupid if they do do that. I will accept it if this is the reasoning/result:

-cheaper games because piracy and used games sales are pretty much 100% gone.
-They are bringing something amazing that Sony isn't.

I have ps3 and 360 and prefer my 360 because the online is much better and that's the majority of what I do. I will be migrating to ps4 if the 720 doesn't show me something making it worth a damn. Of course I will always be a pc gamer as well especially with the oculus rift and the large potential that neither console will support it.

I'll also post this here, since there are two next gen console threads

Paul Thurrott giving out some info:

"Noted Windows blogger Paul Thurrott has claimed during the latest What The Tech episode (via NeoGAF) that the Xbox 720 will launch in November beginning at $300 for a subscription-based model. A standard model will sell for around $500, he said.

Thurrott also shared information about the Xbox 720's reported always-online requirement. He said this a confirmed feature for the platform, claiming the system's notes specifically state that the Xbox 720 "must be Internet-connected to use."

Microsoft already experimented with that 99$ xbox360 subscription model so why shouldnt they do the same for the next Box. Release at 499-599$ retail and a 199$ "pay as you go" model.

It will suck balls. Probably an hour of some fake American family playing it and being so happy that it looks like they're on drugs. Microsoft doesn't seem to do ANYTHING right anymore. I can't think of one single thing they've done right since Windows 7.

meh not very excited about the next xbox. all the rumors so far paint it exact opposite of what i want from a console. ps4 on the other hand looks very promising.

It's the usual instead of improving for legal customers they end up making it harder ending up with even more piracy ie the usual

I bet the biggest reason for online only is forced subscription and micro transactions in many games to come.

back in xbox days people said it was retarded to ask for a subscription to enable online gameplay

xbox360 same crap but they copied from PC one thing... retail games are betas that need patches to run Laughing but to make it more herpaderpa they force game devs to pay 1,5K$ for a patch store slot on they XBL service Laughing

xbox720 you will buy US for 500$ but then WE will force YOU to buy a net subscription to play GAMES on OUR CONSOLE, why should the game developers pay LICENSING FEES for YOUR GAMES , PAY THOSE FOR THEM ... oh and games for our console will cost 10$ more because we have to pay Blue-Ray Licensing fees to SONY

Laughing

retardness at its best

lets hope SONY will do the same shit they did with NINTENDO and GAMECUBE ... those how know what i wrote will get it Wink

PS. can someone report the picture that showed that all console game for the new consoles will be also on PC
