They need to release the training tutorial mode or something. I haven't really bothered playing in a long time. I played LoL for years, but some of the things, like the courier, I just don't quite get. Also, the game is so f'ing brutal it's not funny. The double penalty of both losing money and giving money to the opponent is harsh as well. I also wish you could scroll your view out a bit more. The abilities in DOTA 2 have so much more range than most anything in LoL.. I'd love to be able to see more of the map at once. Love the genre, but some of the mechanics, like last hitting, just don't appeal to me very much.

I've never played DOTA. After playing so much of LoL, I afraid to play this. The thought of learning every item, hero and situation as I did with LoL just stresses me out.

Yes it really is a lot of stuff to learn at first. It's more complex and less forgiving than LoL but if that's what you seek, then it's worth learning it and you'll find it the better game of the two.

Haha, I know what you mean. It's a really good game, but I don't think it's worth for giving up on other good games. Variety always wins for me. I still play Dota 2 few times a month.

Same reason why Starcraft, Counter Strike, Quake, UT, HoN are so addictive. It's a game that relies so much on skill(and everything that involves), whether you are playing a solo game or a team game. It's much much much more satisfying winning a dota2 game than it is winning in Plants vs. Zombies or some other PvE game.

These MOBA games pretty much have unlimited replay value. Learning the nuances of the map, heroes (champs), items, meta game, team fights, positioning, etc., etc. I haven't really played much DOTA 2, but I've played 1000's of games of LoL and it becomes quite addicting. Can be frustrating too though, as you have to rely on your team. These games are hard core to the max and with so many heroes to play, it never gets boring as long as you like the core game play.

I don't know man. I don't know that feel. In most cases the teams are so uneven that either if we win or lose horribly I don't care much. Most satisfying moments in Dota 2 are when we are matched against similarly skilled team and we fight balanced game and both team put everything in it. And even in those cases I am happy that I got a really good game and care less about whether we've won or lost.
One of the recent games where I've been truly satisfied by overcoming a challenge was some of the boss fights in Dark Souls, a singleplayer game.

Anyone getting really horrible performance lately ? I've been getting low fps since a couple of patches back no matter the settings. (tbh they do vary based on the settings, but even @ lowest settings it's not playable, and i do not have high standards when it comes to fps)
Used to run it maxed out in 1920x1080, and i would get about 40 avg fps which was fine with me and it would sometimes drop into the high 20's during big fights. Once again, i was used with it and everything was fine with the world.
Now what happens is that i start a game with bots (using it as a benchmark), for the first minute everything runs at regular performance. As soon as creeps start spawning (they don't need to be on screen or anything) performance starts to drop. Even @ lowest settings (still in 1080 and render quality at 100% though) i get ~20 fps in the laning phase.
I used to get this issue every couple of patches in the past and it would be resolved by just deleting the old settings file and allowing the game to create new ones. Not working now.
Cloud is disabled, game has been reinstalled. Still the same.
So i tried installing dota 2 test (which i have never installed before and i assumed it would be as close to a clean install as i am going to get), and i've got the exact same issue.
This leads me to think that it's either a problem with my system (some sort of recently installed app that doesn't seem to show as doing anything in task manager or performance monitor but is secretly undermining my performance) or it's actually the patches.
Hence my question, anyone else experiencing something similar? Or any possible solutions.
More info:
My cpu is shit, C2D E6750 @ 3.2 BUT it was able handle the game better in the past and i'm not sure what changed.
Settings to everything are set to maximum performance (nvidia control panel and power settings) - i mean settings that refer to throttling down components to save power, everything else is 'application controlled'
Only other game i've been playing on the PC lately is civ 5 and that's running ok, so once again this boggles my mind.
I've tried the +showbudget command in the console which weirdly shows that the hud is taking up a lot of processing power (?!) - if i am interpreting the results correctly. The responses from the devs are rare and not particularly helpful on the dev.dota2.com forum, so i'm not even sure i'm using the command correctly.
Installed latest video drivers.
Also found this link: http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=66663 Seems to describe my issue but i've done most of the things recommended there except the registry cleaner thing and i've not done them in that particular order. If worst comes to worst i will reinstall the game again and repeat that exact pattern. I was only wondering if there's a quicker fix or if it's even worth it.
Edit: I keep remembering to add stuff that i've already tried.

I play everything on low but render 100% in 1280x720 in borderless window and i'm not seeing any significantly in game performance changes since i started play.
Maybe try run game in borderless window like me.

I always had the feeling that playing windowed will actually decrease performance (obviously without accounting for the lowered resolution which would actually increase it).
Nonetheless i will probably end up doing just that.
In the meantime i played another game of dota, same settings as before, went down to 11 fps at a couple of points :\ Sure enough the net_graph command shows similar values to the ones in the linked thread from dev.dota2.com.
I was just checking some stuff around the system and while running the cpu-z app, i noticed the multiplier switches around a lot. The default frequency for my cpu is 2.66, but i upped the bus from 333 to 400 so using a 8x multiplier i get 3.2. I'm just unsure why it keeps switching between 6x and 8x multiplier or whether that is usual behavior.
Also, this slight overclock has been done AGES ago, before even getting access to dota 2 so i highly doubt that is the problem.
