If I download the enterprise evaluation from msdn , can I easily activate it using a KMS server , or is it stripped down ?

The KMS activation won't work on a 90-day evaluation copy of Enterprise.

Hmm, i'm having sort of the same problem as the guy on the last page atm.

A program needs to save it's config file in a folder located in: "C:\Users\SauSâ„¢\AppData\Roaming\"
Now it just won't create the file or edit one if i put one there, tried running the program as admin, but nope.
Permissions are all correct, everyone has full permissions..

Really fucking odd, how some programs can do this without a hassle and others can't Neutral

why?

just delaying the inevitable. you'll have to return to win8 sooner or later because win7 will stop getting support and updates etc.

it's not like before where you can sit out one windows version and 2 years later new windows is out. MS now moved to annual update cycle kinda like OSX, so last year we had win8, this year there will be win 8.1, next year win8.2.

Nonsense.

Windows 7 will have 'extended support' until January 14, 2020, this includes windows updates.

Well simply put, i don't like not to be an admin of my own OS, plus i had compatibility problems with numerous applications which probably will never be updated and i do need them
Oh yeah i also kinda like aero and native start button support
Don't really care about updates that much

a lot of good that will do if we don't have dx11.1, dx12 etc on windows7. don't get me wrong i love win7, but we'll be "forced" out of it sooner or later.

I've asked myself the same question. In what way are you not the an admin of your own OS in Win8? Scratch Head

Its still possible to disable UAC via registry, but you will will disable metro apps at the same time. I dont use metro apps so...

Overall Win8 is a step down over Win7 for me aswell but it runs pretty smooth most of the time. (Never had bsods except in OCing sessions)I didnt experience anything so dramatic that would have made me go back to Win7 yet. And I suppose many issues will be dealt with in time such as compatibility. Sadly, derptro and its apps will only ever be fixed by third-party.

I gotta say it actually does lol.

No faults with the speed of W8 OS, it is fast, and a good improvement over Win 7. I do love having 'trim optimize' at the click of a button on my SSD's, so that is worth it for me lol. Never use the shitty 'Metro' crap, it's awful indeed, but very easily ignored Smile

I have a small question if anyone can answer it.

I have to switch out a normal hdd for an ssd drive with windows 8, fucking ASUS hasn't provided a burn recovery disc option though so i tried using the built in backup system in Windows only to find out you can't use it on a new disc.

Just now am i waking up to the fact that perhaps i'm just overthinking this, i should be able to clone the disc with Ghost right?!

For the first time I decided to check the windows store. (I don't use windows much, and I never use the metro part of it)

Turns out I have to scroll sideways. Ok. For some reason the mouse doesn't work for that. I can't grab, the wheel does nothing, there's no scroll bar anywhere (I checked the bottom too). Maybe the arrows in the keyboard will do? Nope.

The only thing that worked was page down. In a very jumpy fashion. So I closed it, came back to the desktop and will never return to that stupid colored brick wall. Ever.

Works as it should here as well. You scroll with the mouse wheel, there's a scroll bar at the bottom, keyboard arrows work fine as well (even though their 'movement' position is from app to app), and the Page UP/Down keys move the focus from one block/category of apps to the next block of apps.

Don't know what happened, but there's no scroll bar at the bottom, wheel and arrows don't work either. Oh well, not like I'm missing something by not using the store...

haven't used ghost in a while, but cloning to ssd it's basic stuff nowadays, just make sure it's a recent ghost so it doesn't do anything stupid like cloning unaligned. But there are software that aligns afterwards so no biggie

also when on the ssd, do remember to rerun WEI (windows experience index) so win8 can notice the ssd and do the proper optimizations.

I've just gone over to W8 from W7 and I still prefer W7 if I'm honest. Installed Start Is Back (had issues with Start8) and it's 100x better. I'm not a fan of Metro but I can see it would be good on a tab/phone. Talking of Metro is there any good custom config tools available so I can change the look of it (tiles etc) ?

As for cloning an SSD just use True Image. Works fine here, np's at all Smile

Take a look at the leaked builds. There are very little changes, and none are outside of the Metro crap. ReFS will appear, but people won't and should not care about that.

Faster? Vista/7/8 are fast enough already. What more you need? Boot in 2.5 seconds instead of 2.8? Laughing
