Its the deal with the 24" lcd and computer for 1200 bucks. Cant beat it because the monitor is 900$ alone. Anyhoot,

the processor is a 3. gig p4 with ht technology but my question is, its not dual core, how well do you think it would run burning a dvd and talking on irc? do you guys think that it would be bad on the burnning or it should be fine? let me know, what do yout think I can do and cant do with it, its a 3.0 gig, 1 gig of ram, 160 gig hd.... I just curious, has to be better than this 1.5 gig Cool

It will run fairly well though you need to specify what kind of ram and HDD and of course also the burning speed on the dvd and your GFX.

not gfx but erm... irc is pretty low on resources really compared to burning. it's probably faster running irc and a burning app on a single core (thats faster overall) than on 2 cores. If it was a game and burning then it's obviously gonna be better on a dual core and probably too laggy on a single core.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celeron#Celeron_D_.28Prescott-256.29

quote from here: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=88&num=6

Quote:

Keep in mind however; the Celeron is designed to be a budget chip, not one geared for playing the latest games or compiling the latest programs, but rather doing general productive tasks such as checking your email, typing up documents, or browsing the Internet. If you are a diehard Intel user and are looking for a BUDGET processor, we would suggest the Celeron D over the traditional Celeron series due to the increased cache and Prescott core. However, this CPU isn't quite a performance chip, leaving the Pentium 4 as Intel's processor of choice to handle all gaming and workstation needs.

you'll eventually need to replace it Wink

Celerons are ok as an office computer. But i wouldnt use one for gaming. Correct me if im wrong but i think the main difference would be the celeron lacks or has little L1 and L2 cache.

Edit: Opps..didnt see nouse post.. what he said.

Yes, you'll need to by a new motherboard for AMD, as Intel and AMD doesn't use the same socket.
