I've only played a little of the game...but to anyone that's finished it:
I'm playing the first campaign (Leon) and just got to the chapel with that Hannigan chick. If I find the game boring, uninspired, and generally lackluster, does it get better? Because days have gone by and just thinking about playing it feels like preparing for a chore. Take note that there have been several occasions where I've wondered, "who the hell thought this part/scene would be fun? How the fuck can a company with this much experience be THIS bad at making games?!" But as a long time RE fan, I feel obligated to at least finish it.
For reference, I enjoyed RE5 (for what it was), and feel that it had better feeling controls, presentation, and pacing than the little of RE6 I've played so far.
I just modded the hell out of Skyrim and want to start a new character, plus I haven't even booted up Bioshock Infinite yet. Such a hard life...

Each of the four campaigns has their own style so if you dislike one you might enjoy another though as I've not made much progress with the game I do not know what the differences are.

You mean Harper.
I've played like half the game and what you've already played I consider the best parts of the game. So if you didn't like them, then the game is not for you, as you'll likely hate the other parts, IMO.

Have you tweaked the FoV? At default settings it was unplayable for me!
The controls with a gamepad are okay. I'm playing with a gamepad mainly because the point of RE since 4 is that you are NOT accurate with your shots and you have to aim and shoot carefully.

Yes already played for some time now with 15/15/0 (somehow didn't noticed the options at first lol). It's much better now.
Also currently at Chris' second chapter. And his campaign is not so bad as i thought because of people saying.

I had a little more time so I played another two chapters. Updated list bellow (new entries with bold):
Quote: | Prelude Chapter <- shit
Chris Chapter 1 <- shit
Chris Chapter 2 <- meh
Jake Chapter 1 <- good
Jake Chapter 2 <- ok
Leon Chapter 1 <- good
Leon Chapter 2 <- ok
Leon Chapter 3 <- ok
Jake Chapter 3 <- good
Chris Chapter 3 <- can't rate it. It ranges from beyond shit (terrible) to good
Jake Chapter 4 <- shit
Leon Chapter 4
Chris Chapter 4
Jake Chapter 5
Chris Chapter 5
Leon Chapter 5
Ada Campaign
From lowest to highest: shit, meh, ok, good |
Chris' chapter 3 had some absolutely horrible textures (PS2 era for sure), horrible really really horrible dialogs and "emotional" cutscenes, and the ending chase scene had me facepalm sooo hard. WTF is this shit???!!! Worst part of the game by far.
Unexpectedly the same chapter had 2-3 cool set pieces.. If the whole chapter was like those I would rate it as "good". But noooo Capcom had to fuck it up!
Hint about the chapter's best moment: Remember RE1's Yawn?

The Left 4 Dead 2 cross-over content has been released, alongside a new patch.
(Maybe this one will fix the various errors encountered, maybe not.)
http://store.steampowered.com/news/10349/
EDIT: Oh they fixed it.
NEW FEATURES
- Play as the Left 4 Dead 2 characters in The Mercenaries: No Mercy mode!
BUG FIXES
- Fixed the "Out of memory" error that occurred with some video cards.
A number of other issues have also been fixed.
EDIT: Ah no the game just crashes now instead of displaying that error message.

This game makes me feel uncomfortable. I've just beaten it and it has enough good moments to make it worthwhile, but it also has too many bad moments to really like it.
It feels like the talented people who made RE4 and RE5 were unable to pull off a 25 hour game on their own, so they hired 100 interns to stretch the game with boring filler content, lowering the overall quality of the game.
The worst thing is probably that Chris' campaign doesn't copy GOW enough. Remember Stalker: Call of Pripyat, how the game starts off slow with sparse ammo? How you try not to shoot because wearing your gun down demands expensive repairs? In the last section, when you join the military group, the rules change. The game throws lots of armed enemies at you and you get unlimited ammo, health packs and weapon repairs because you work with the military - and the game is still fun. It explores the capabilities of the engine and the gunplay from a different perspective and succeeds.
I hoped that the Chris campaign would be something like that section of S:CoP, but it's not at all. The game throws tons of armed enemies at you and raises the probability for a Ganado mutation after a kill close to 100%, so most enemies respawn as monsters. But what the game doesn't do is give you enough ammo to make killing them fun. It was the only campaign where I was low on ammo most of the time.
The gunplay of the engine is good and the Chris campaign could have been similar to the mercenaries mode with story, but ultimately it isn't more than a joke. No tense atmosphere but no proper gunplay either.

Well said.
Here's an update on my progress:

Leon Chapter 2 <- ok
Leon Chapter 3 <- ok

The more I play the more I become disappointed. The first chapters were okayish but now I rate almost every new chapter "meh" or "shit".
I wonder what is the length of Ada's campaign.

Ada's campaign is a bit shorter. The chapters of the other campaigns took me around a hour and a half each, the Ada chapters usually took me a solid hour.

Finished all the campaigns except Ada's in COOP with a friend. I have to say Chris is by far the worst in the entire series. The chase sequences are an exercise in frustration.
Best one is Leon's hand's down. Well polished and more inline with the rest of the series. I just wish they would have given a recommended order in which to play and then leave it up to the player to decide.
RE5 was a lot more polished then this....especially when it comes to COOP + I really miss a way to manage the inventory or sell/store unneeded stuff.
This is the second game I've played recently on normal and I really wish they would scale the difficulty better in the all the recently released games.
If I play it on normal...it feels to easy and I easily get overstocked with ammo, health and other stuff. If I try it on hard some of the sequences/levels are so shitty balanced that they ruin the entire experience.
